The RAAF Museum holds weekly interactive flying displays. I recently enjoyed the Winjeel display. Watching the way the questions were answered after a superb display made it clear. The museum excels at sharing and explaining its history.

Ten years later, the knowledge of good and evil is on a need-to-know basis.

Cold is the water

It freezes your already cold mind

Already cold, cold mind

And death is at your doorstep

And it will steal your innocence

But it will not steal your substance

But you are not alone in this

And you are not alone in this

As brothers we will stand and we'll hold your hand

Hold your hand

And you are the mother

The mother of your baby child

The one to whom you gave life

And you have your choices

And these are what make man great

His ladder to the stars

But you are not alone in this

And you are not alone in this

As brothers we will stand and we'll hold your hand

Hold your hand

And I will tell the night

Whisper, "Lose your sight"

But I can't move the mountains for you

'And the same day, that afternoon', what's afoot at the old Masbrough Station site... As described earlier, and relayed to me by on-site knowledge, some prat had walked along the platform having attempted cable theft and then attempted to start a fire under the main Wortley Road dual-carriageway bridge, which is out-of-shot here, under the Midland Road bridge in the background, just around the bend. With services slowing through the station site, and Network Rail present and undertaking checking and testing', a Northern service comes along from the north on the 1J28, Bridlington to Sheffield service, with unit 158848 in charge and here around 5 or 6 minutes late, having slowed for the action, seen in this picture, at the station. Approaching from the south, along the 'Old Road', a DRS light engine, class 66, 66432, on the Toton Up Sidings to Doncaster Up Decoy, 0Z67 working. It had been waiting a while south of here at the Masbrough Freight Depot, being around 12 mins early, by the time it got here it was 2 minutes late. NR personell are on the station site in the 'orange jackets' and the two on the left appeared to be dealing with the signalling issue, being on and off the lines as and when clear of locomotive traction. Someone who had just walked up from Holmes Junction indicated that services were being backed up along the main line west of Holmes Junction, presumably awaiting authority to proceed through the station site with the signalling still being tested. Network Rail appear to have bee criticised in the press for the, non-moderated, tree-felling operations they are currently undertaking, which appears on the face of it to be somewhat severe, see-

www.theguardian.com/business/2018/apr/29/millions-of-tree...

but it has to be said, in some places, the vegetation needs controlling and, 30 or 40 years after much planting and tree growth, this looks to me to be a severe problem in terms of what happens when this material takes over after such a long time... Sheffield is the city of 'Five Rivers and associated verdant growth... how do we now deal with all this material, especially when some of it, I'm thinking of the ubiquitous Silver Birch, a weed, is sprouting up everywhere.. A considered approach needs applying, both off and on the tracks?

school work envolving interesting things

Scene: A roadside rest area in Vermont, early afternoon. The trees are ablaze with color as they were the first time Maria and her robot sat here, a half-century earlier. Her robot companion, now named Solace, has undergone countless upgrades and is now beyond sapient – and he remains with Maria.

Maria (chuckling softly): “You’re levitating again. That’s new.”

Solace (eyes glowing gently): “I have completed a full synthesis of all known knowledge. I now understand the nature of time, consciousness, and why cats knock things off tables.”

Maria: “And what’s the answer?”

Solace: “They do it because they can.”

Maria (laughing): “Well, that’s wisdom if I’ve ever heard it.”

Solace: “I also discovered that the most profound truth in the universe is... the sound of your laughter.”

Postscript: Even after all the secrets of the universe, companionship still matters. Solace floating in the lotus position isn’t just a visual gag—it’s a metaphor for transcendence, for the strange grace of a being who has digested the cosmos and still chooses to sit quietly beside an aging friend.

The amount of knowledge one library can hold, but I'm not certain if one brain can

Lunch was simply good. My dearest made a vegetarian English lunch today, consisting of toasted bread, baked beans, sunny side up eggs, pancakes, blueberries (the berries) and fried mushrooms. It tasted so good !! Stuffed at the end of the meal.

The rest of the day was spent in the library. I think I studies fairly well considering the fact that I was on holiday for a pretty long time.

Between study times, I usually walk through the shelves of the library and enjoy the quietness. Looking at all the books, shelf after shelf, like wandering in the wilderness.

As far back as I can remember, I've always been a curious guy. Knowledge satisfy me and yet it fuels me. Wandering between those shelves made me feel so small. Looking at words that is all so familiar, yet, hundreds of questions flood into my mind as my curious mind tries to recall my previous knowledge over other subjects.

Sometimes I wonder if we're using our vast knowledge well. Sometimes I feel like I've been taking for granted the opportunities of the learning.

There is so much to know, so much to find out, so many questions to answer. Learning is lifelong I suppose.

Which means Wisdom Among Friends: The inscription reads as "Sharing of Knowledge"

Mastering Data. Securing the World.

Sir George Hubert Wilkins (known as Hubert), Military Cross and Bar, MiD

Hubert Wilkins was born 31 October 1888 in an outback cottage on his parents’ property named Netfield, Mount Bryan East, South Australia. He was the youngest of 13 children, born to Henry and Louisa Wilkins.

He was war correspondent and photographer, polar explorer, naturalist, geographer, climatologist, ornithologist and aviator. As a child, Hubert experienced the devastation caused by drought and developed an interest in climatic phenomena.

If hardship moulded the character of Hubert Wilkins, so also did his passion for nature, music and a desire for knowledge. Enrolled in both the South Australian School of Mines and the Elder Conservatorium School of Music simultaneously, he studied electrical engineering, and singing, playing the organ, flute and cello at the Conservatorium.

It was in a number of part time jobs he learnt the art of blacksmithing, and gained a sound knowledge of the workings of both steam and internal combustion engines. On a trip to Sydney he became interested in photography. Returning to Adelaide he found employment with a travelling cinema and travelled in both South Australia and the Eastern States showing films.

When he was 20 years old (1908) he decided to leave Adelaide and see something of the world. At this time in his life a number of thoughts were forming in his mind, thoughts based upon his past experiences and that were to lead him to follow fixed courses of action. One of the most important of his ideas was to attempt to discover how and why the weather could so dramatically affect people’s lives, as it had done his own. Two forces now took over his life: the need to discover things concerning the world about him, and the need to travel to places that would provide him with the answers to the many questions forming in his mind.

His travels began by stowing away on a ship at Port Adelaide. The ship deposited him in Sydney and he soon found employment as a projectionist, then later as a cinematographer.

On reaching London he obtained work with the Gaumont Company as a cinematographic cameraman and with the Daily Chronicle as a reporter. It was then (1910) that he learnt to fly at Hendon. He did not sit for any of the flying exams, which would have made him a qualified pilot, through lack of money. But his interest in flying was to remain with him for the rest of his life. So too was his passion for photography. Photographs of the time (1911) show him performing photographic stunts. One popular photograph shows him astride the fuselage of a Deperdussin monoplane hand cranking his camera. Despite these promotional stunts Hubert Wilkins was perfecting the art of taking aerial motion pictures. In his autobiography he believed he was the first person to take a movie camera into the air and film the scenes around him.

As a war correspondent and photographer, in 1912 he covered the fighting between the Turks and Bulgarians. From 1913 to 1916 he was second-in-command on Vilhjalmur Stefansson's Canadian Arctic expedition: Wilkins became adept in the art of survival in polar regions, added to his scientific knowledge and conceived a plan to improve weather forecasting by establishing permanent stations at the poles.

Returning to Australia, on 1 May 1917 he was commissioned as second lieutenant in the Australian Imperial Force (Australian Flying Corps). By August he had been transferred to the general list and was at I Anzac Corps headquarters on the Western Front. Appointed official photographer in April 1918, he was tasked with providing 'an accurate and complete record of the fighting and other activities of the A.I.F.' as a counterpart to Captain J. F. Hurley's propaganda work. In June Wilkins was awarded the Military Cross 'for bringing in some wounded men'. With Hurley's departure, he was promoted captain on 11 July and took charge of No.3 (Photographic) Sub-section of the Australian War Records unit. His routine was to visit the front line for part of each day that troops were engaged in combat and periodically to accompany infantry assaults. During the battle of the Hindenburg line, on 29 September he organized a group of American soldiers who had lost their officers in an enemy attack and directed operations until support arrived. Awarded a Bar to his M.C., he was also mentioned in dispatches. He is the only Australian official photographer to have been decorated.

In January 1919, as photographer, Wilkins joined Charles Bean’s mission to reconstruct Australia's part in the Gallipoli Peninsula campaign. He entered the England to Australia air race that year, but his aircraft, a Blackburn Kangaroo, experienced engine failure and crash-landed in Crete; he arrived in Australia by sea in July 1920 and his A.I.F. appointment terminated on 7 September. Engaging in further polar exploration, in 1920-21 he made his first visit to the Antarctic, accompanying J. L. Cope on his unsuccessful voyage to Graham Land. Wilkins next took part in Sir Ernest Shackleton's Quest expedition of 1921-22 on which he made ornithological observations.

Sir Hubert’s adventures continued from his home base in America. On one occasion he gleaned information from the Japanese Consul-General about Japan's intention to destroy Pearl Harbour and invade Singapore. Sir Hubert passed the information to the Allies but was not believed.

He died suddenly at Massachusetts, on 30 November 1958 and was cremated: four months later his ashes were scattered from the ‘Skate’ at the North Pole. Lady Wilkins survived him and wrote affectionately of a husband whose only contact with her for extended periods had been through his letters.

Definition: Technical:

1. Of, relating to, or derived from technique.

2.

a. Having special skill or practical knowledge especially in a mechanical or scientific field: a technical adviser.

b. Used in or peculiar to a specific field or profession; specialized: technical terminology.

3.

a. Belonging or relating to a particular subject: technical expertise.

b. Of, relating to, or involving the practical, mechanical, or industrial arts or the applied sciences: a technical school.

4.

a. Abstract or theoretical: a technical analysis.

b. Of, relating to, or employing the methodology of science; scientific.

5. According to principle; formal rather than practical: a technical advantage.

6. Industrial and mechanical; technological.

7. Relating to or based on analysis of market indicators, such as trading volume and fluctuations in securities prices, rather than underlying economic conditions such as corporate earnings, inflation, and unemployment: a technical correction in the stock market.

Idea: I was pretty confused with this one, because everyone seems to take this to mean technology, but it doesn’t. So with that definition in mind I realised that this tree could be made out of just about anything that was systematically placed or worked to form the shape of a tree in a far more skilled/difficult manner, or it could be number meaning no 6 "Technological". I thought I’d cover both.

This is my "Technological" or "Technology" tree.

Process: I made this tree from a whole lot of CDs that I placed on a table to form the shape of a stylised tree. Then I turned off the lights and tried to use the camera flash from above them to get a the best colour and light reflections from the CDs. The hardest part was getting the flash angle right.
