The brave Knight has made it to the lair of the Scorpio-skeleton Knight, who has stolen the Holy Chalice! He must battle his way through the army of skeleton warriors, once proud knights themselves, and do battle with the Scorpio-skeleton if he is to prove his bravery!

A week or two after our visit to Medieval Times, Andrew wanted to make paper dolls of knights--and eventually a larger cast of characters. I drew them, and he colored them. (The rectangular figure near the center is the king upon his throne.)

Hij is bijna 4 en telt de dagen totdat hij eindelijk naar de school

van zijn broer en zus mag... hij wil zo graag 'groot' zijn!

Almost 4: he can't wait to go to school with his sister and brother.

He just wants to be a 'big boy'!

Near Barakka's Gardens there is, of course, also the Palace, the house of Knights at the time. It's worth really a visit. All the rooms are so fine decorated, all with large and heavy tends over wide windows, luminous chandeliers, tapestry or walls/ceiling adorned with frescos. There is too much to show. For the selection I choose this photo to rappresent the Palace, where the trace of Knight are more than visible...

A long long corridor starts here connecting all the rooms. Echo back of steps accompany you moving along it, watching at the ceiling so great painted, portrait of grandmasters every where, guarded constantly by all this armours so great lined on both side of the corridor, on all it's lenght (!). They seems so alive. Believe me, is really like you aspected one to move, from one moment to the next. :)!

(I prefer to leave the low light for the atmosphere, without using flash, don't know if you feel it..for me is good, not so dark in my screen..have one with more exposure but I like this one..yours?).

baci. comes tomorrow sure..

Tirate a lucido, così fiere.Sembrano vive.

baci. Passo da voi di sicuro domani.

The morion used by the Knights of St. John on display in the Armoury of the Grandmaster's Palace in Valletta.

The morion was a popular form of head protection developed in the early 16th century. It was a type of open helmet, usually having a flat brim and a crest from front to back. The morion, though generally identified with Spanish conquistadors, was common among foot soldiers of European nationalities. Inexpensive production costs aided its popularity and dissemination.

Althoug offering little protection to the face, the morion was often preferred to the uncomfortable close-helmet even by high-ranking officers. The richly decorated examples on display in the Armoury would have certainly belonged to the Knights, officers and noblemen.

Occasionally even the usually cheerful Black Knight gets the blues...

The best thing about it was that they started quoting the scene with the two knights from Monty Python's "the holy grail".

-Will you yield, sir knight?

-Never!

"It's the horsey-shape piece that moves in a L shape. It's what make chess complicated, and why stupid people can't play chess. Go play checkers! Knights are the first piece you look at. They elevate the game. No chess master wants to loose her knights."

The courtyard of the Grand Master's Palace in Valletta, Malta.

Dominating Palace Square, the Grand Master's Palace has always been the house of government in Malta, first by the Knights Hospitaller (Order of St. John of Jerusalem), then the British and now hosts the President’s office.

Grandmaster Pietro del Monte liked the location in Valetta with the large square in front so much that in 1571 he persuaded the Order to buy the site and to erect his Palace on it. However, when the building was finally finished two years later, the Grandmaster had already died and was succeeded by Grandmaster La Cassière.

The Palace was originally designed and built by the Maltese architect Gerolamo Cassar in 1572.

The building is a two storey edifice having five entrances and quadrangle in form occupying an area of 96 metres by 81 metres.

The structure had been altered and extended numerous times. Most of these modifications are not documented precisely enough, so that it is hard to judge which elements belong to the original structure and which parts were later added. Even the Palace's building history proves to be a complicated matter: Gerolamo Cassar had to integrate two existing buildings in the Palace, one of which was the first Italian auberge.

In the interior of the palace is the famous Council Chamber, adorned with valuable Gobelins tapestries woven in France for Grand Master Ramón Perellos y Roccaf.

The other rooms and passages of the palace are splendidly furnished with art objects, old coat of arms and armour.

Particularly notable are the former Hall of the Supreme Council of the Knights, which hosts fine frescoes and the Hall of the Ambassadors, where portraits of Grand Masters and European rulers hang. On the basement floor is the Armoury, one of the largest collections of its kind in the world, though reduced to a fraction of its former size by the depredations of the French.
