In the kitchen, looking towards the dining room. Stairs go up to attic on the right, with narrow shelving on the wall for storage. The washer and dryer are at the end on the right.
This is just showing how we framed around and covered the front of the baseboard radiator. It will be painted, either white, or I may get paint to match the cupboards.
There was a dishwasher in this spot originally, then later it was replaced by a cabinet with drawers.
I painted the subfloor with porch/patio paint to protect it as it was going to be a good while before the vinyl plank went down. With six cats, this was a necessity. ;-)
So we can tile the backsplash, we painted over the drywall with a special primer to make sure the thinset sticks well and doesn't come loose. It was basically like paintable mortar, with sand in it. A pain to work with, but it's done.
So, the ceiling in the hall area still needed three pieces of drywall to finish. Putting up ceiling drywall over a stairwell is not fun. The last piece at the end we had to flip over and put the "bad" side out to get it to fit. It was either that, or go buy another whole new sheet of drywall. It'll be fine. We'll prime it before painting, and you won't be able to tell.
I bought the light fixture for hanging over the sink from Wayfair. Online, the photo and description seemed to indicate a copper color. It was actually pretty much brown, as you can see from the underside of this part. I got some Krylon metallic copper spray paint and fixed the problem (see further photos).
So, why are all the upper cabinets down again, you ask? Good question. When the cabinets arrived, we had a deadline to get them installed so that we could have the measurements done for the countertops. The timing was such that we just needed to get the uppers up, so we could get the base cabinets in to meet the date for the counter measuring. Once that was done, and the countertops were installed, we could then do what you normally would have done first - install the mounting strips for the crown moldings on the uppers (which meant taking them down again), and cut the hole in the hood cabinet for the vent. So yes, things were a little bass ackwards, but we got it done.
