yesterday i noticed the sunset light in repeated puddles on a sidewalk. as i sprawled on the ground to take this shot, a car stopped and someone asked, "are you okay?" i smiled and said, "oh, i'm just fine; i'm taking a photograph." i carry that stranger's kindness with me; kindness as warm as the sun.
our world is complex (humans are complex!), yet kindness softens everything. kindness inward, kindness outward.
The young child hopes for a future…
Stay strong out there, my friends.

This is a downtown New Bern busker on Middle Street. New Bern is such a wonderful town!
Dec. 16th, I just found out that his name is Howard Matthews, and that everyone around here seems to know him. I just read an article on him from a few years ago that told his story. It confirmed my belief that he is a wonderful man!
A long time ago, my first camera, bad focal length, low quality definition, but I find these pictures of Ecuador still have a kind of charm.

(Romans 10:1-13)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

So true. At work today I got a phone call from a client that wanted to pay his bill and book some shooting instructions, and before hanging up, he asked how my running was going because he was in on the conversation when I first started running about 2 months ago. So, I told him how I had hit my goal yesterday and he responded enthusiastically, and congratulated me and asked when my 5K was, and gave me the kindest words of encouragement. This from a busy, high powered executive millionaire, under 40 years old, who took the time to take an interest and make me feel like the nonsense in my life actually mattered. It made my day and it's not difficult to see how someone that young could be that successful with an amazing attitude like that. (Previously he also promised me.... yes, he promised!!!! ... that I will be able to run a half marathon, and that we'll pick one out and run it together. If I ever DO run a half marathon... I'm pretty sure I will dedicate it to him!)
Try a little kindness.... you don't have to be a millionaire to make someone else feel like one.

I rarely photograph people. However, back in 2018, a scene unfolded before my eyes that was too compelling to ignore. As I sat in my car I watched it for five minutes and I was really mesmerized. A young woman, quite well dressed, approached a homeless man on the wet street. There was no hesitation in her step, no faltering in her approach. She sat down beside him, their worlds momentarily intersecting, and they shared a sandwich. The simplicity of the act, the unspoken understanding, left me wondering. I can't claim to know her reasons, but in that moment, I wanted to believe in the existence of pure kindness.
