our builder has finished mending our roof today. Kosovan refugee, before being sent by his parents to search for a new life in Italy, and then, arriving in London. I am proud to say that he was taken in, and within two years of arrival became a British citizen, now his sole nationality. I salute his determination, kindness and resilience

I saw this battered sticker/decal on a car window about a year ago. I thought then it was a sign of and for our times. It seems even more suitable now. Kindness always matters. Yet our desire - and perhaps our ability - to show it, do it, be it, seems very diminished these days.

My friend, Donna, had a tough week. Yesterday, one of my sons and I drove to her house, sneaked onto her porch and left a big bag of her favorite candy, (Milky Way) by the front door. Signed, From the Christmas Elf. She sent happy texts all over, probably trying to find out who left it. Pretty sure she suspected us.....
