A large population of feral chickens inhabit Key West, Florida, reminders of the days when cock fighting was a sport on the island, and Ernest Hemingway spent hours in the local bars. Generations of released/escaped "Cubalaya" roosters have "cock-a-doodle-do-ed" their freedom and roamed free.
This handsome fellow is protected by law, but is not admired by all of the current residents of Key West. The chickens do provide local "color" and a link to the romantic past of Key West, but they are also noisy and messy. For now the Rhode Island Red hens/roosters still "rule the roost."

Some more experimenting with ND filters and trying to process them to the way I would like, that's the hard part.
Macro Mondays: "Numbers"
Stamped onto the key is the number sixty seven. It has no meaning to me. It's just a spare key to my house that I keep on a string, so that when I go for a walk I do not need to carry my car keys with me.
This image is about 7.6 cm (3 inches) on the long edge.

Strobist/technical info:
The scene is a 13-image focus stack composite. It was illuminated by two Nikon SB900 speedlights, placed 50° CL and 40° CR two-feet away from and one-foot above the subject. They were fired in Manual mode @ ¼ +0.7EV power through Neewer 24" x 24" soft boxes.
The SB900's were triggered by three PocketWizard Plus X's.

When I am stuck for ideas I sometimes flip through old magazines to see if I can duplicate an image. This was inspired by an old ad.

It is hard to get an appreciation of their size with nothing to scale them against but that leave in the corner will give you some estimate.
On a recent photo trip through the Florida Keys we made a stop at the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key. We didn't see a lot of deer as usual but we did come across these two fawns which were about the size of a poodle..
The endangered Key deer is the smallest subspecies of the North American white-tailed deer. About the size of a large dog, the males may reach a shoulder height of one meter and 85 lbs but the females are much smaller.
Poaching and habitat loss reduced their number to a few dozen in the 1950s but establishment of the refuge and proper management has increased their number to about a thousand.
Key deer may be found on 20-25 islands of the lower Keys but 75% of the population lives on Big Pine and No Name Key.
So here is our gacha item for the December round of The Arcade - The Ribald Butler!
Be prepared to have e big laugh with this one :D
He's scripted to show up when you're near him and say different things, related to the held objects.
Of course, there is an option for the butler to stay visible and silent if you want it this way.
We hope you find it amusing, as much as we do and wish you happy upcoming holidays! :D
Good luck and enjoy! <3
Location: The Arcade (opens on December 1st!)
More info here.
‼️After the event ends, the gacha machine will be placed at our in-world store, along with the other gachas from previous rounds.
This is my second go at taking pictures of keys.
The first hook holds the keys to William Evans' desk: the drawers and the secret compartment. William was born in 1849, but I don't know when he decided he needed a desk.
The next hook back holds the keys to the cottage that used to belong to my great aunt, WIlliam's grand-daughter. These are probably not all that old but certainly serve no purpose any more. They live in the desk.
The desk keys are probably the oldest things I own, although I feel more like they are just in my care for a while. And I am only guessing that the keys were made before the desk, which of course is still going strong.
William Lowe Delaney / Theodore Holtsberg House
The Connecticut sailor and wrecker Benjamin Sawyer built the first house on this property in 1844. From 1888 to 1890, most of the harbor activities in Key West took place at Sawyer's home, until federal customs were completed. . William Lowe Delaney (1863-1917), a native of Key West, acquired the property from Sawyer's widow and built this residence decorated with the revival of Queen Anne in 1906. The house included a two-story veranda, a tower of pavilion and an asymmetrical floor plan. After Delaney's death, a circuit court decision in 1918 transferred ownership of the mortgaged property to Lavinia Artolozaga for $ 3,551. The property was sold again in 1925 for $ 7,000 to the Romanian immigrant Theodore Holtsberg (1857-1928), one of the island's first Jewish residents. He was an entrepreneur whose fashion boutique was a local landmark and an active member of the island's Jewish community. The Delaney / Holtsberg Historic Residence was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971 as a contributing building in the historic district of Key West. In addition, it was selected as one of the 38 key architectural structures in Key West by the Milo Smith Survey of Historic Buildings in 1974.
Here's another perspective of the famous lighthouse in Key Biscayne, this time from the Phantom 4 Pro. We're testing the P4 Pro against the new Mavic and this sunset we thought we would do the P4 Pro because we're more used to it. We suffered two disconnections (any of you that saw our live FB broadcast will remember), but I took a lot of "blind" photos, like when I used to attach a GoPro to earlier Phantoms. Anyway, continuing to test both of them and making a video today in Grand Cayman to compare the two.

Rings and a ringer! These are for my keys.
These hang by the door where they are handy to grab when you need a key ring.
