This is my first attempt to shoot a real model from my lighting class. The model - Tez - is really helpful and really know what to do - without us telling her much. This setup is a high key setup, 2 lights lighting the background, softbox from her right, reflector on her left.

Done for Photography Critique Assignments. Subject: Low Key
What it Took: I have usually preferred full tonal pictures and have never before attempted a low key photo (on purpose) . So I view some of the examples and the tutorials and went to work
A single light source. Why not my computer which my wife claims sees my face more than she does And if the computer why not "Photography Critique Assignments"?
I set the tripod very close to me and used a wide angle lens. The lens was not more than 18 inches from the back of my head. I turned of the lights in the room. I set the camera on Aperture priority and the EV compensation to -1.0.
I used a tripod and the self-timer. I had used this self-timer so infrequently in the past that it took me a dozen tries to get it figured out.
On the computer I removed some extraneous light coming in from the left of the computer and adjusted the curves. The computer screen still looked to bright so I isolated in and adjusted the levels selectively. I had to also add some brightness and contrast to my head.
This is a metal heart that I decoupaged vintage looking paper over. I added several gears a lock with a zipper pull in the center and a small key dangles from the zipper pull.
Winged Skeleton Key necklace. The first item sold in my new craft shop. Modified from the original Pearl Cameo Filigree necklace.
The small pearl cabachon is surrounded by a braid design, with a leaf & rose design around the edges. The centerpiece has a gold filigree butterfly wing design over a small pearl, which is surrounded by a similar twist design. The centerpiece is a barrel key pendant featuring a matching filigree design, a three-pronged bit, and a St. Edward's Crown-style image in the center of the key's bow.
The beads include black lightweight wood, imitation round pearl, and antique brass twist design. The toggle clasp is a twist design with a little bow design on each one. The string is an 8-lb-test nylon monofilament, and is tied to the clasps with several Surgeon's knots for added strength and durability. The necklace measures approximately 16 inches around, so it could be worn underneath the collar of a blouse without tension.
My daughter loves looking at these whenever we go to Chinatown, and she already has quite a few of them. There seem to be new ones every time we go, and at only $1 each, they are a real bargain!
