Doornroosje 06/09/2023 11h44

Doornroosje (Sleeping Beauty). The first fairy tale on the official route through the fairytale forest is one of the ten first fairy tales at the opening in 1952.

A photo taken before the major renovation of the castle. It is desperately needed: cracks have appeared in the old castle walls in recent years. There are also problems with the paving and the pond.

When it became apparent in the early 1980s that the original castle was subsiding, it was decided to demolish the scene and rebuild it. The current structure dates from 1981. Now, 42 years later, the ravages of time have taken hold again.

Efteling wants to do something about this, starting with the stones on the stairs to the castle. They have become too slippery due to wear. "To prevent unsafe situations, this path is being tackled," says project leader Mark Elings. The immediate surroundings are also taken into account.

A few days after this photo the renovation started and the visitors were bypassed by a temporary path arpund this castle directly to the Kabouterdorp (Gnome Village)

Doornroosje is the first fairytale in the route of the fairytale forest is also one of the oldest fairy tales in the history of De Efteling.

It is also one of the first ten fairytales at the opening in 1952, designed by Anton Pieck, although the current scene dates from 1981 and has some adjustments from Ton van de Ven. It is depicted with a castle on a hill, where visitors can climb up a staircase to look through windows through the bedroom where Doornroosje rests and the angry fairy sits on the spinning wheel. The chefs sleep in the kitchen.

De Zes Dinaren

The Six Servants (Dutch: De Zes Dinaren) is a fairy tale about a prince who, with the help of six servants, is able to win the hand of a princess with a special gift. The story was recorded by the brothers Grimm in 1819 for their Kinder- und Hausmärchen under the title "Die Sechs Diener". In the Netherlands, the fairy tale is mainly known by Langnek's prominent presence in the Efteling.

In the Efteling it is the third depiction on the route in the Sprookjesbos, between the Kabouterdorp and Roodkapje. The servant Langnek has been sitting on a rock since the opening of the Sprookjesbos in 1952, stretches his neck and looks calmly around. The original design is by Anton Pieck, but the giant has had transformations over the years, mainly under the direction of Ton van de Ven. In addition to the iconic figure, since 1967, the portrayal of the fairy tale is also from a gallery with the bust of another servant from the fairy tale: Kogeloog. Under the shelter are the portraits of all six servants from the title. The story is told by Peter Reijnders.

The fairy tale opens with Langnek as one of the first 10 attractions in the Sprookjesbos (Fairytale Forest) on May 31, 1952. He then has a rather small head and a rough face that resembles a coarse woodcut. He looks very strict, almost sad for himself.

Doornroosje 10/04/2024 14h24

Doornroosje (Sleeping Beauty) about one week after the renovation was completed. More light by removing trees that were far too large. New landscaping as well and the formerly not visible side of the castle is now visible due to the construction of second path around the castle. This was the way down from the castle towards Kabouterdorp (Gnome Village) which used to be located fully in the shade. Two new promissed aditions to the castle have not yet been installed right after the opening and the location should be here.

There are several gnome houses in the Fairytale Forest. Beautiful large mushrooms, designed by the designers Anton Pieck, Ton van de Ven and Henny Knoet and built between 1952 and 1980. They blend naturally into the surrounding park. The many paths and corridors around and in the mushrooms are a favorite with children who are looking for even more (moving) gnomes.

The music that a gnome plays on his spinet somewhere can be heard in many places. He plays Menuet in G major (Per Jocum. Opus II, Latin: "Just for fun, second work"), which is a well-known tune for many visitors.

Timing is alles.

With a bend

After a visit to the kabouterdorp in the southern Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen , Rosie was walking behind us, playing with her umbrella. If I hadn't looked back at just the right moment, I never would have seen the rainbow behind her. Barely two minutes later, the rainbow was gone. Timing is everything.

The oldest part of the Gnome Village from 1952 was not included in the major refurbishment of 2018. The three separate mushrooms have been inaccessible to visitors since the end of 2017. It is currently unknown what will happen with it and when it will become accessible again.

After Doornroosje on the right-hand side, the actual Gnome Village begins. A short side path of the main route has been created here for children, with three mushrooms with low passages for them to walk through. There is also a small picnic table here, there are some gnome clothes hanging on a clothesline and there is a bridge over a pond. Gnomes cannot be seen here yet.

At the moment (2020) the whole looks very neglected and is crying out for action.

De Niewe Kleren van de Keizer 03/06/2023 15h55

The The Emperor's new Clothes is one of the storytelling fairytales in the Fiarytale forest like most of the most recent depictions are instead of the more static ones (Hans en Grietje, Doornroosje, Kabouterdorp).

A close-up of the performance and the scene.

De Nieuwe Kleren van de Keizer

The Emperor's new Clothes is a fairy tale about an emperor who is too vain to admit that he is put on his number by two tailors, and therefore, assuming wearing beautiful clothes, walks naked in a parade. It was written by the famous Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. With the original title "Kejserens nye klæder" it was first published in 1837 as part of Andersens third collection with fairy tales.

In the Efteling it is the twenty-sixth representation on the route in the Sprookjesbos. It was opened at the end of the jubilee year 2012 on a new route between the Girl with the Swordsticks and the Fairytale Tree. The fairy tale is put into rhyme by the voice of Paul van Vliet, while against the backdrop of a tall palace wall, built in a mixture of baroque and rococo elements, a tea dome and a graceful gate, a performance is given by moving dolls. and shadow play. It was designed by Pim-Martijn Sanders. The music is an adaptation of the Musette in D major by Johann Sebastian Bach. Previously, the fairytale was present in the Fairy Tale Museum, where since 1963 an empty clothes hanger was on display in a display case.

The The Gnome Tree (Kabouterboom) with Music Gnome (Muziekkabouter). With Christmas decorations here. This time with the gnome peeping through the door.

Kabouterboom

In a hollow tree, between the three abandoned mushrooms and the Great Gnome House, we find the first gnome of the village: the music gnome. The tree, in which a twisted face can be recognized in a Pieckerian way, is a popular climbing object for children.

Two viewing windows can be found between the roots; at eye level for small children, but can only be used by crouching for adults. A small space has been cut out in and under the tree in which we find a scene with a gnome playing the Minuet in G major on his spinet. In the back, a beardless gnome pops in from behind a door every now and then. The score drawn up is not that of the Minuet he plays: above it is written in graceful letters: Per Jocum. Opus II (Latin: "In jest, second work"), and the music is practically unplayable.

The music resounds from all the Musical Mushrooms in the Fairytale Forest. The first of the twenty on the route can be found next to the Kabouterboom. The suggestion is made that it is this gnome that produces the music that comes out of the mushrooms

Winter Efteling

Winter Efteling is the opening of the Efteling in the winter season, nowadays from November to February. The event has been brought since the first edition as a distinctly different experience than the Efteling offers during the rest of the year, with all kinds of extras in the form of decorations, special live entertainment and winter catering and attractions. The park also has different opening hours than during the high season.

The Winter Efteling has been organized since 1999. After three trial editions, it was decided in 2002 to put the event permanently on the calendar. Until 2010, the park was still closed between the summer season and the Winter Efteling, nowadays the Efteling is open every day of the year and there is therefore no interruption between summer and winter season.

The last gnome house in this gnome village has a water wheel on the side and two gnomes. A door gnome and a washing woman under a canopy. The only woman in this village. When children are sitting on the door handle of the garden gate, the door gnome comes to look around the corner and says "Toediedoedidoe ...

Hey, no, no, there's no one there for me. And not there either!

Well, I'll have been mistaken ".

This house was built in 1980 and was designed by Anton Pieck but carried out by Ton van de Ven.

De Nieuwe Kleren van de Keizer 06/07/2017 10h37

The Emperor's new Clothes in English is one of the storytelling fairytales in the Fiarytale forest like most of the most recent depictions are instead of the more static ones (Hans en Grietje, Doornroosje, Kabouterdorp).

The Emperor's new Clothes in English is one of the storytelling fairytales in the Fiarytale forest like most of the most recent depictions are instead of the more static ones (Hans en Grietje, Doornroosje, Kabouterdorp). In this scene the prime minister peeks through the windows of the teahouse and sees that the tailors are busy with the new clothes of the emperor. To tell the story, De Efteling has chosen a shadow play.

The oldest part of the Gnome Village from 1952 was not included in the major refurbishment of 2018. The three separate mushrooms have been inaccessible to visitors since the end of 2017. In 2023, work will be resumed to restore these three mushrooms to their former glory. Completely rebuilt, they will be accessible again soon.
