Kai will get his first passport soon. Our challenge was to get a decent photo that meets the requirements of our government.
Shun Kai Electric Knife Sharpener
For practically effortless sharpening of your Shun cutlery, this Electric Sharpener is made to meet the standards of the Asian knife industry. It runs on 120 volts and uses a removable grindstone cartridge set at a 16-degree angle with a combination of coarse and fine grits. To restore your blade to its factory-sharp edge, pull your knife slowly through the channel lightly just a couple of times. Rinse the grindstone under water to clean and dry thoroughly. Shun knives will continue to offer precision performance when sharpened on a regular basis. Made in the ancient city of Seki, Japan, Shun knives rely on extremely sharp blades, made of Japanese VG10 steel clad with 32 layers (16 on each side) of a proprietary blend of high-carbon stainless pounded so thin, it delivers precision slicing, cutting and chopping that is unprecedented by any of its German competitors. Imagine, a knife made the same way as ancient Samurai swords, handcrafted still today. Sharper out of the box than other knives, the Shun cutlery maintains its sharpness longer, since the finely-polished blade edge has a natural tendency to remain straighter, yet when required, it can be honed using a standard steel or sent to the factory for free sharpening. The wavy, Damascus-look pattern on the blade creates minute air pockets that offer stick resistance, so food releases easier and prep time is reduced--plus it's rust-free. The Shun Steel line features an attractive stainless steel handle, formed in the same “D” shape as the Classic knives, for comfort and control. The seamless construction provides a sleek look while also being dishwasher safe and NSF approved for commercial kitchens.
The waves were happening on Platja del Rec between L'Escala and Empuries on this one day. Kai got some warm-up practice for Santa Cruz and Ocean Beach SF back home.

Inaugural 2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge Prologue
My lens was unable to keep up with riders coming at me, so I tried my hand at panning with manual focus.
You live, you learn:
1 - Take photos from the drivetrain side. Doh.
2 - Take the time to find a nicer backdrop (this was the best I could find in The Garden of the Gods?)
3 - Get a monopod
I set the licensing to Attribution Share Alike, so you're free to use these images however you like. Just drop me a line!
Final updates for Kai:
I brought back his v1 magma daggers but upgraded. The daggers can be attached to the side of his "skirts".
His blade is also updated and it can be attached to the back now after some adjustments to the back.
