Shot on iPhone 4.
My 365 began with a photo that I did with the help of my daughter. It ends in a similar way. We went to Main Beach at 7am with the idea to do a family jump shot as my final 365 photo. My idea was to shoot along the beach, and write 365 in the sand. The sand writing didn't work, so Meg suggested we do the numbers with our fingers. She also suggested we have the ocean behind us. Good call on both parts. We had about 10 goes at it, with me setting the self-timer on the tripod and running around trying to time it right. Exposure with backlighting was tricky but overall I'm really happy with this. My two girls helped me enormously with my 365 project - it's only right they were in this shot for the end of it.
I'm pleased the 365 is over and I completed it. I wanted to take a picture every day on the iPhone and I did that. I didn't miss a day, and every day I tried to take a photo that worked in some way. Many days my photos were just ordinary. Some days they were good, on a few special days I think they were even better. Some of the photos I'll treasure. A photo I took of Meg and I on the beach, just a few days ago, melts my heart when I look at it.
I want to do a 365 again. Just not next year. Goodbye 365:2011. Hello 52: 2012.
backyard shenanigans.
happy bench monday!

self talk on the blog today
This is the room of my adolescence. Except, when I lived in this room it was a dark maroon color, so now it barely even feels like it was ever even my room. It's empty now, and some renter is going to fill it with all their things. It makes me feel weird to think about, because in my mind it'll forever be the room of high-school-Lauren.

Justine Ezarik and Brian Shaler do the "Shalerjump" in Santa Monica California.
iJustine [on twitter] and BrianShaler [on twitter] have decent amount of "fans" online for various projects which they each do.
They could also be considered "Power Users" of twitter.com
This photo documents a friendly competition to see who could jump high while also using good form, poise and model like poise... AKA a ShalerJump
I'm not quite sure who won, which you would think would be very easy, just look at the height right? Well, there are other factors like pose, when the photo is snapped, etc.
So..... Why don't you vote for iJustine or Brian Shaler....
Just put a comment below with who you think is "winning" the photo finish. I'm the photographer, but YOU be the judge! (If' you're not sure, you can still critique each one's style)
PS: Oh ya, I'm on twitter too: AcmePhoto

A typical response when people hear that www.esqphoto.com is "born" and images are available for purchase. What can I say? They jump into the air.
Seriously, this is a sample image from a shoot I did yesterday with Susan (aka MacaDamien). Pretty awesome jump shot in my opinion. In any event, I did want to announce that my website is now up and running. So if you have some free time please stop on by. I will be uploading more images over the next few weeks.
You can find some additional images from this shoot in the Environmental Portrait gallery on www.esqphoto.com.
photo taken by JB. We had surfing lessons, fun! Should have worn a long-sleeved rash guard; my arms are now laden with itchy scabs.
Here is a photo I found that I took for the school a couple of years ago! I think it was a great shot with some cool effects on it!

I told him to jump so I could take a nice jump shot. He basically just hopped. XD
But it turned out fine. So, I guess I shouldn't really be complaining. :p
It was annoying enough that I forgot to eat lunch today (err, yesterday). What was worse was coming home and having my sister greet me with, "I have some bad news."
"You broke my camera," I said. (I had let her borrow it for a protest in San Francisco, with strict instructions to be careful with it.)
"Noo..." she said.
"You dropped it!" I said accusingly. I was about ready to stab her.
"No! I didn't break it or drop it or anything, but it won't turn on! It keeps saying 'lens error'!"
"Freakin' hell."
So she kept apologizing, but in all fairness it was all my own fault, for taking hundreds of photos at Muir Beach last week. Remember what happened the last time I took my camera to the beach? Right, I got sand (and water?) in my camera and screwed up the SD400. Apparently, I've also gone and jacked up the SD600 now, like a smart one. Vat drama.
An evening conversation with my friend went like this:
me: so my camera is dead again. freakin' hell
Z: goodness. what's it doing
me: NEVER TAKE PHOTOS AT THE FREAKIN' BEACH
Z: HA HA HA HA HA. isn't that what happened the first time? learn your lesson, yaz!
jesus! peace be upon him.
Today is HUG YOUR CAT DAY!!!!!!
Genius holiday, and now officially one of my most favorite holidays. I woke up to a VERY early text message from my friend Alisha, reminding me of this silly day.
She actually just started a 365 project, too. Check her out! She's seriously awesome, and it's pretty ridiculous how similar our pictures are today...and on accident! Yay, photo friends!
So - in honor of today, I scooped up Milli and made her pose with me. I got 2 shots in before she was done. This shot is also JUST like Chelsea's 365 from yesterday, who let me know that June is for JUMPING!
I guess this is just really my month.
The jump shot is a beautiful play in basketball. Phoenix Suns versus Memphis Grizzlies, January 2014.
My camera accidentally took a dip in the ocean and the film got a little salt on it. The results were pretty cool.
Who is the wizard?? I dunno. I just followed the dirty road and the short people. Uh. yeah.

So this is indubitably not what I had in mind, otherwise I'd have worn a skirt, or petticoat, or some cooler socks, and really caught some air -
But somehow, I like this better than the DoF shots of me in a field. Just gonna go with my heart on this one.
Or better yet, my soul. Er....I mean....sole?
dunno. Anyways - I had a better afternoon than morning. And I went shooting, which helped. Got some righteous (they still say righteous anymore???I can't tell. I learned all the cool words from Supermario world. Which was gnarly, btw.*cough cough* I'm not a nerd, I swear.) shots of power lines for my set...all for later days.
And random fact: This was my first shot jumping, and though I tried about 15 more times, they all sucked...haha. Happy accidents, I always say. *wink*
Happy Saturday loves, hope all is well in your worlds. :) ::smooch, hug, love::
Playfulness means being able to explore and to do things, for the sheer delight of doing them. It means relaxing, being spontaneous, and allowing a situation to carry you where it will. When we have a playful attitude, learning and discovery are fun, and even hard work can fly by.
Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that playfulness actually accomplishes things! When children play, they become smarter because new neuron connections are formed in their brains. Play has been described as the work of childhood, the place where the greatest learning occurs. Great scientists and spiritual leaders often are similarly playful.
Playfulness reduces stress, and brightens the atmosphere. It engages people to do things that make them more connected with other people. It makes people happy.
I think this looks pretty cool here - View On Black
