The Emsley Rec scoreboard says it all: West Bowling are on their way to a first victory since rejoining amateur rugby league's flagship Kingstone Press Cider National Conference League over the winter. West outscored Dewsbury Moor Maroons, the Third Division's early leaders, eight tries to five in chalking up a 44-26 win. Key passage of play was a 10-minute spell spanning half-time, during which West, formerly members of the Pennine League, ran in four tries. West later dropped down to the Pennine League but returned to the NCL for the 2017 campaign. In recent years, they have played at the Alfred Emsley Memorial Recreation Ground, known locally as Emsley (or Emsley's) Rec.
