Jimmy is a canner by trade and is part of what I like to call the Strawberry Fields Squad.
His claim to fame is being kicked out of the Upper West Side Apple Store over 50 times. Yes, he is that much of a badass.
If you have cans, bring them to Jimmy.

Good morning. I hope everyone had a nice weekend and Happy Butterfly Monday. Featured today is an American Snout (Libytheana carinenta), a butterfly I rarely see. Maybe two or three a year if I'm lucky as they are quite uncommon here locally.
I know, not the prettiest butterfly in the field, but catch one glimpse of this butterfly and you'll know how it got its name. It's beak-like mouthparts, called "palpi", stick out a good 1/4 inch (0.5 cm) or so from its head and look like a long nose...hence the reason for the title. The palpi doesn't serve any specialized function for feeding or mating, but creates a visage that sets it apart from other butterflies.
As for these photos, they were taken at the reclaimed strip mine while in search of dragonflies. Normally Snouts are quite skitterish, but this one was very accommodating about posing while feeding on Fleabane and in between when resting. So much so that I took over 200 shots of it, of which about 25% turned out pretty decent. As a result, expect at least one more series on this unique butterfly :-)
Thank you for stopping by, and good night Mrs. Calabash...wherever you are.

This image depicts John Denver and Jimmy Buffett playing together at a concert that never happened. The two singer-songwriters were friends, and Buffett frequently split his time between Key West and Aspen, which John Denver called home. Buffett also recorded Denver's song "Rocky Mountain High" with his Coral Reefer Band. Had the concert depicted in this image taken place, I can easily imagine them singing Denver's ode to Jacques Costeau, "Calypso," which would fit perfectly with Buffett's lifestyle. With their loyal fans, what a concert it would have been. . . Although Denver died in 1997 at the age of 53, this image depicts what I imagine he would have looked like around 2013, at which time he would have been 70 years old.
