Faceted blue lace Agate bracelet with sterling silver & Swarovski crystal.

Our first project during my second year at KIAD was production jewellery, which meant we all were thrown into wax carving. I created a set called 3x3, containing 9 different rings, slightly different in terms of colour, finish and content of gemstones.

"The business aspect, I could honestly do without. I'm definitely one of those typical designers that doesn't want it and needs someone to actually help me. I do it, for sure.

The selling part's the other part I hate doing, too. I have to go to shows and stuff like that, and it's weird. People would never really necessarily think that about me because I'm pretty social and, you know, I like talking to people, but I'd rather talk to people about where they're from or how their family life was when they were growing up. That's the kind of conversations I like having. I don't necessarily like saying, 'Hey, don't you like this? It'll go with every outfit, you know?' That's not really my thing." - Chris Habana, jewellery designer (NYC)

Before enrolling at the Kent Institute of Art and design in Rochester, Kent, UK, we were sent our first brief in the mail. These rings were part of the business study project we had to complete and work out costs of having items mass produced.

I created velocity rings with one, two and three steel ball bearings inside of them.

I cut the prototype's in aluminium on a milling machine and had the following pieces (six of them) cut in steel by a milling company. The sides mirror each other and were screwed together with the ball bearings inside.

The velocity rings can also be worn as playful pendants on a simple fabric or leather cord. They act as gadget to pass time with with the loosely moving balls inside.
