Foundation stones 20 Nov 1926 by F Langlois & Pastor F Collins, architect C Jenner, opened 21 Aug 1927. Congregation formed 1906. First church foundation stone 11 Dec 1909 by John Fischer, architect J H Daniel, opened 20 Feb 1910, became hall.
“Two stones were laid, one by the president of the Churches of Christ Conference (Mr. F. Langlois). and the other by the pastor of the Maylands church (Mr. F. Collins).” [Advertiser 22 Nov 1926]
“The new building is being erected at the corner of Wellington road and Nora street, Maylands. A chapel has been in existence on the same property for 17½ years, but the growth in membership has necessitated expansion.” [Register 22 Nov 1926]
“Maylands Church was formed by a band of young men from Chapel street. Norwood, who leased what is now Buffaloes' Hall, in Janet street. At that time – 1906 - part of the hall was used as a cabinetmaker's shop, and dances were held there occasionally. Each Saturday night they would sweep out shavings and cigarette ends in preparation for Sunday services.” [News 23 May 1927]
