A beautiful full moon in January.

I was at the zoo and noticed this little one in the trees.

It was a beautiful winter day

"κι όταν η βαρυχειμωνιά

μου πάγωνε τα χέρια

στον ουρανό τα σήκωνα

να ζεσταθούν στ' αστέρια"

Από το τραγούδι "Μικρό παιδί σαν ήμουνα", στιχουργός Βεργόπουλος Αργύρης, συνθέτης Κόκοτας Λίνος, 1966

Free translation:

"and when the heavy winter

froze my hands

I raised them to the sky

to warm them in the stars"

From the song "When I was a little child", lyrics by Vergopoulos Argyris, composer Kokotas Linos, 1966

Dark and cloudy morning!

Continuing my Ice and Snow series with this fifth image...

With the deep freeze we've had for the last week, the waves have frozen into a thick ice layer on top of an old, crumbling jetty.

I captured this image last night as I stood on a parallel jetty that was NOT covered in ice like this, so not dangerous to stand on.

The setting sun produced these lovely colors on icy Lake Michigan, the surface reflecting the soft pinks and blues of the sky above.

I love our lakeshore, both in the warm summer and in the cold winter!

These spectacular looking fungi commonly found in late summer and earlier autumn but is said that ‘fruits’ can appear throughout the year. So, here is the top view of a January fruiting body. There were few Collared Earthstars (Geastrum triplex) in the local beechwood during the visit but this one looked most appealing. It also nicely shows its threefold structure that is reflected in its epithet ‘triplex’, while the scientific name Geastum is translated from two Latin words ‘geo’ and ‘aster’ meaning ‘earth star’. Lansdown, Bath, BANES, England, U.K.

Thank you for your visit, favs and comments.

It might not look like it in the photo, but the above average temperature on our walk this morning sure felt like a thaw!

RAIN!!!!!!!!

I live in the Central Valley of California in Fresno County and we are having a drought. So RAIN is dear and it rained all day on Thursday!!! :)

And when with all this in mind I prayed with my heart, everything around me seemed delightful and marvellous. The trees, the grass, the birds, the earth, the air, the light seemed to be telling me that they existed for man’s sake, that they witnessed to the love of God for man, that everything proved the love of God for man, that all things prayed to God and sang his praise.

After a violent storm and tornados to the north last night, the air was crisp and sweet this morning. Cirrus clouds were woven like a tapestry across the morning sky.

Come January, a river otter visits my little pond. He stays only a few days and will, maybe' come next January.

The first snow in two years in Raleigh left an inch of snow on the ground this morning.
