I dragged Ian out for a gentle stretch of the legs on a New Year's Day walk through Tring Park. I didn't realise how foggy and frosty it was going to be, but it was magical (if a bit cold!). This is not snow on the ground - it's feathery needles of frost which had fallen off the trees

It seems that kids have to throw sticks and rocks onto the ice, just to check that it is indeed frozen

First light beside the River Thames, close to Blackfriars Railway Bridge, on a chilly January morning.
The last half of January 2022 has been exceptionally hot and dry along most of the California Coast. While the skies at sunset have been "on fire" - sadly so has thousands of acres along the Big Sur Coast just south of Carmel.
The late season blaze forced hundreds of residents to evacuate. And even with the big soaking this area got in December, the rain and cooler weather are no longer able to prevent "off season" fires from growing.
I'm fortunate to share this image with you all via Explore! Thank you for your feedback and encouragement!

Winter is winter, it brings frost and snow here in the north of Russia. January's breath is going to freeze everything, including this small river.
But the light of mid winter is so beautiful sometimes. Especially right before sunrise. Try to get it when possible.

Scott gave me a new Kindle for Christmas which meant I needed to order a case for it. I was hoping for something a little different but it seems that the choices were a little limited. That's okay, at least it's a colourful case.
Really happy with the gift too, I was using his hand-me down Kindle and it was taking about 3 seconds to turn a page, which hindered the flow of reading. This new one is super quick and waterproof so I can have it with me if I go out in the rain. Bonus.

The last two images the orange light comes from the parking lot lights.
You have to walk around in-between trees to hide the direct light from blowing out your shot.
The heavier the fog and longer the exposure the more orange they turn out, like fire.

A frosty Friday called for a snow macro for some reason. I think it was the light that caught my eye, once in a while, it's best to embrace the simplicity around us.

It's a busy day and evening here with lots on the to-do list so just a super quick flat lay for today. No theme past things that are readily available and sort of look okay today, but I like the way it turned out if with the minimal effort.

Sunshine splits through the trees on a cold, misty January afternoon. Taken on Throughs Lane in the small village of Storth in Cumbria.
Time for a very brief frosty interlude (briefer than the frost, which continued for a good week). On two days virtually all the plants in my garden stayed frozen throughout the day, but most seem to be recovering. I have at least two bushes of this plant, whose name I don't know – it has grey leaves and small yellow flowers in the summer.
