Yesterday (Wednesday 11 March 2020), officers from Greater Manchester Police and the City of London Police’s Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) executed a number of warrants at Great Ducie Street, Manchester.
Officers from GMP and the City of London Police - the national policing lead for fraud – worked alongside UK immigration, meaning a total of 100 officers and staff members were involved in the operation.
The search warrant, which developed from a previous operation that involved the sale and distribution of counterfeit items, saw thousands of labels, computer equipment and cash seized.
Detectives are currently exploring links between the counterfeit operation and Serious Organised Crime, helping to fund criminal activity beyond Greater Manchester.
15 people were arrested, after officers uncovered an estimated £7.5 million worth of branded clothing, shoes and perfume suspected to be counterfeit.
Chief Inspector Kirsten Buggy, of GMP’s North Manchester division, said: “Yesterday’s operation is one of the largest of its kind ever carried out in the area and has taken a meticulous amount of planning and preparation.
“I am thankful to colleagues from the City of London Police, who as the national policing lead for fraud, have worked in partnership with officers from GMP and helped bring about yesterday’s direct action. I am also grateful to those from UK Immigration for their help.
“Such partnerships are absolutely vital when tackling counterfeit operations, as they bring specialisms from across the country together in a bid to make an impactive and real difference. Steps such as yesterday are often only the start when it comes to investigating the scale of these operations and we will continue to work in conjunction with the City of London’s Intellectual Property Crime Unit to tackle this type of offending to its’ very core.
“It is important to recognise the far-reaching and serious impact of sophisticated and large scale counterfeit operations such as this one; and I would like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public of the repercussions of this kind of offending and the link to organised criminal activity. Please be under no illusion- this type of crime is not victimless.”
Police staff investigator Charlotte Beattie, of the City of London Police’s Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU), said:
“The counterfeit goods business is a deceiving one and the key message to be take away from this operation, is that counterfeiting is not a victimless crime.
“An individual may think that when buying counterfeit goods they are only affecting a multi-million pound brand, and won’t matter, when in fact they are helping to fund organised criminal activity. Counterfeit goods also pose a health risk to individuals as they usually are not fit for purpose or have not gone through the legal health and safety checks.
“Working in partnership has ensured that today’s operation has been a success. We will continue to work with Greater Manchester Police and UK Immigration to tackle the scourge of the counterfeit goods problem.”

As always in China, all heroic deeds and military successes will be related to the Communist Party. Politics! Even here, were the 88th Division, one of the crack units of the National Government under Chiang were employed without any Communist fighter involved, the propaganda is used. Not long before 1937, the 88th division was used to fight the Communists in Jiangxi province which makes the propaganda even more ridiculous. All achievement were done here without the Communists. Shanghai was under the firm control of the National Government, Communists had been hunted down previously. The few remaining Communists in Shanghai had no influence of the battle.
In general, the vast majority of all fighting was obviously done by the large Chinese army which was under the command of the National Government (Chiang Kai-shek) while the rather small Communist force were usually active in the rear area of the Japanse controlled area, only occassionally fighting at the frontlines, .
Joint Trust Warehouse or Sihang Warehouse is now a museum, located along Guangfu Road along Suzhou Creek.
Fighting took place here from October 26 to November 1, 1937 during the battle for Shanghai as part of WW2.
The 432 defenders (also known as Eight Hundred Heroes) of the warehouse held out against numerous waves of Japanese forces and covered Chinese forces retreating west during the Battle of Shanghai. These men belonged to the 88th Division, a German-trained crack division of the National Government of Chiang Kai-shek under the command of Xie Jinyuan. The division had fought previously against the Communists in Jiangxi province.
In total 10 Chinese were killed and 37 men wounded.
The successful defense of the warehouse provided a morale-lifting consolation to the Chinese army.

So Sparkle Girls fashions still haven’t turned up in Australia but I still keep an eye on Sparkle Girls merch when I can. Today I saw this fashion pack I was going to ignore but I noticed the arms were posed weirdly and saw it was fully articulated. I made sure she had jointed knees and I bought the one set with clothes I liked (which was the green sweater).
Honestly I was hoping to get a decent match to my super orange/pink Yukko chan clone head, but Carrie’s head is too pink. Also the Sparkle Girl body is super lightweight and hollow, and the hip joints are so badly designed the hips just splay out.
The head is also super short so I don’t think anything but vintage style Skipper heads could even fit on it.
PLUS all the “outfits” are one piece things so the sweater is sewn into the short skirt and the dance top is sewn into the shorts.
But hey, I’m going to dremel the heck out of the so hopefully I can find a decent match.
After the new expansion joint on the westbound I-90 East Channel Bridge near Mercer Island is in place, workers pack grout all around the edges to help seal and protect the joint.
It's labor intensive, time-consuming work that needs to be done before new concrete is poured into place.
Contractor crews are replacing two expansion joints on the bridge because the existing expansion joints have cracks and the rubber seal is broken.
The new expansion joints help preserve the integrity of the bridge and ensure drivers safety.
Trying the bionicle friction sliders out, but they where to long for the belly joint so I just used the one connector part in the same manner. There seems to be enough stiffness for this to work ok here and I may try this for the arms as well.
