This is the fourth of a number of shots I will post from visiting an abandoned hospital building on Ellis Island during an escorted tour. Ellis Island, which served as a federal immigration station for millions of immigrants to the US, was opened in 1892 and closed in 1954. This tour included viewing some areas of the hospital including disease wards, laundry building and the autopsy / mortuary room. Much of the building and its contents remain unrestored and present a fascinating visual experience for anyone interested in understanding a piece of history in the United States.

When isolation becomes a religion, the living trade places with the damned.

A visual representation of the aftermath of false prophets, corrupt politics and the selection of surviving as a priority over living. Broken hearts, broken dreams, broken people, lost time. Isolation's passengers.

"In fear every day, every evening

He calls her aloud from above

Carefully watched for a reason

Painstaking devotion and love

Surrendered to self preservation

From others who care for themselves

A blindness that touches perfection

But hurts just like anything else..."

Ian Curtis, Joy Division

I tried to come up with the idea of isolation here using all black pencils along with one yellow.

A rainy, foggy day here in Nelson reminds me of when Elyse and I drove into the middle of South-West NP, Tasmania - chasing the winter storm which hit mid-summer.
