Bodie Island Light House, mid morning

[This photo is for C. London's 52 Weeks of Photography Challenge - www.clondon.me/blog/52weeks0]

Isolation has a lot of us returning for creative endeavors and hobbies left behind. To match this weeks theme of isolating a subject, I tried to focus on my partner working on her cross stitch project.

It always impresses me how much differently Velvia 50 on my 6x17 camera captures a shot compared to my D800e. It's also so much easier to shoot seascape panos - no frustrating wave stitching issues :)

I spotted this image while sat on the toilet! With a bit of adjustment & moving a few things in the room I got a minimalist look, but had to take the photo from the toilet! My place, Jindalee, Queensland, Australia.

An exercise in framing and object isolation.

True Faith

Manchester Art Gallery

2017

True Faith explores the ongoing significance and legacy of New Order and Joy Division through the wealth of visual art their music has inspired. Curated by Matthew Higgs, Director of White Columns, New York and author and film-maker Jon Savage with archivist Johan Kugelberg, True Faith is centred on four decades’ worth of extraordinary contemporary works from artists including Julian Schnabel, Jeremy Deller, Liam Gillick, Scott King, Mark Leckey, Glenn Brown and Slater Bradley, all directly inspired by the two groups. Also featuring Peter Saville’s seminal cover designs, plus performance films, music videos, fashion and posters from John Baldessari, Barbara Krüger, Lawrence Weiner, Jonathan Demme, Robert Longo, Raf Simons and Kathryn Bigelow, True Faith provides a unique perspective on these two most iconic and influential Manchester bands.

When all is lost to you inside

When all the darkness takes the light

The ritual warning has begun

And now you tear away from everyone...

I've posted several photos of scanned slides lately, so I thought it would be fun to show where the project is being done. The trash bag is the fourth one I've filled with discarded slides, along with several smaller bags. The shoebox is one of 42 similar boxes full of slides dating back as far as 1965. The scanner is an Epson Perfection V800 that scans 12 slides at a time and does a remarkable job removing dust spots. I use Vuescan software and an electronic dust blower, and have a slide database that dates back to the pre-windows DOS operating system days. The database needs to be updated whenever I delete or add slides to the scanned collection. So far, I've scanned over 4100 slides and discarded, probably, 40,000 slides and am working on my 18th shoebox. It has been a ton of work, but brought back a lot of great memories. Please excuse the messy workspace.

Since 2010 Isolation Camp is an annual gathering of musicians and visual artists from around the world in a remote hut somewhere in the Austrian alps. Thanks to Ludschi from Pirate Movie Production for making this unique experience possible.

My toy hasn't left the driveway since November 2019 - 26 months - and I wouldn't take it out at this time of year But ... my mind has been working overtime and imagining it sitting in a winter scene like this. The Covid 19 - Delta and Omicron versions are to blame because I do not take it out when there are clouds in the sky during the summer. Good bye Covid - come quickly summer !!

A few random pictures on the theme of isolation

Since taking up full-frame photography, I have found the Canon 35mm F2.0 IS USM to be a great all purpose lens. View other shots taken with this lens here.

Inspired to take more people shots, but with a twist - environmental portraits - I decided to document the people of our neighborhood, which is a beautiful rural area. This series will be titled, PONS, People on North Shore as we live on the north shore of a lake. Visit us here at PONS.
