Walking down one of the many small picturesque streets within the Albaicín. This is Calle Verea de Enmedio and has the whitewashed walls all so common within the Albaicín! Did you know that many of the homes here are built inside of caves? No visit to the south of Spain is complete until you have visited one of Andalusia’s most unique neighborhoods, the charming Arabic quarter filled with Muslim influence. The Albaicín, is located in the city of Granada, across the Darro River from the Alhambra fortress and palace. This Moorish “barrio” is just one of the many treasures of traveling through Andalusia and southern Spain.

If you are in the city of Aleppo, you will never miss the Grand Mosque of Aleppo. It is always being used as a reference point as the location is in the middle of the city.

When I visited this city in September 2008, the mosque was under renovation. I am sure by now the renovation is completed and this beautiful mosque is fully utilised.

Location : Aleppo, Syria

Redesigned with traditional mosque features 2006 - 2013 Architect - Zak Ghanim .... in traditional Islamic style .... Located near Donlands and the Danforth, Madinah Masjid is a beige-coloured mosque with brown-and-white Islamic archways and a glass dome. An ornate 26 metre / 85 feet-high minaret, the first of its kind in Toronto, is the building’s most defining feature, it towers over the neighborhood’s two-storey storefronts. The Madinah Masjid (Arabic for house of prayer) is a Sunni mosque ....

It's not very often that a monarch willingly relinquishes his own castle, but Ghazanfar Ali Khan II, a descendant of the ruling Mirs (or Kings) of Hunza in Pakistan's mountainous north, believed that his ancestral home, the Baltit Fort, would be better off in the hands of someone who knew how to take care of it. Seven hundred years' worth of earthquakes, avalanches and neglect had turned it into a rubble-strewn heap, prompting the Mir to turn it over to the Aga Khan Trust for Culture in 1989. The charitable foundation embarked on a restoration, which took six years and more than $3 million—and the results are stunning. Taken apart stone by stone and rebuilt using both modern and traditional methods, the fort has risen from its ruins. New foundations stabilize the ancient walls, and polymer mesh strengthens the façades that so magnificently overlook the Hunza Valley. In the 1920s, a British traveler described Baltit as "the most amazing fortress ever built." Today, it would be fitting to describe it as the most amazing fort ever rebuilt.

The Shrine of Hazrat Ali, also known as the Blue Mosque, is a mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. It is one of the reputed burial places of Ali, cousin and son-in-law of Muhammad. It is the building which gives the city in which it is located, Mazar-i-Sharif (meaning "Tomb of the Exalted") its name.

According to Shi'a Muslim belief, Ali was originally buried by his two sons, Hasan and Husayn in an undisclosed location, which was later made known by the great, grandson of Husayn and Sixth Shi'a Imam, Ja'far as-Sadiq - as the grave that is found within Imam Ali Mosque in Najaf, Iraq.

The story the founding of the shrine indicates that, shortly after the murder of Ali and the burial of his body at Najaf, near Baghdad, some of Ali's followers worried that his body would be desecrated by his enemies, and they placed his remains on a white female camel. Ali's followers traveled with the camel for several weeks, until the camel ultimately fell to the ground exhausted. The body was then reburied where the camel fell. The body was said to be rediscovered there in the 12th century.

Hagia Sophia - began as a Christian church, later converted to Islamic mosque; became a secular museum celebrating both religions.

The new mosque in Redditch is being built in stages as the local Muslim community raises funds.

These images were taken early on a Spring morning. Speaking personally I like Islamic architecture and this is a fine addition to the places of worship in this area.
