This scene caught my eye as we were driving from Aspen Grove to Princeton BC. The curve in the road and the fall colours just made this scene so beautiful 😍😍😍 Kris..
In Gaelic the name for Red Knot is Dun. Lin is a diminutive added to the end of words, so Dunlin means "little knot", a description that applies better to their dull winter plumage than the summer finery pictured above.
Market hunters of old called them tar bellies, and blasted them out of the sky for sale as food. Peter Matthiessen's "The Wind Birds" is an extraordinary account of sandpipers and their kin, and details the wonder of this family, and the mass slaughter that so damaged their numbers.
I saw this one at Charwell Point on the southern shore of Prince Edward County. Located on the remotest stretch of Lake Ontario shoreline, the landform juts south into the water and is an inviting rest stop for migrating birds. With most songbirds now on their nesting grounds, birding attention locally switches to the shorebirds who are still powering their way north to the Arctic. I'll visit Charwell at dawn for the next couple weeks to see what drops in. This morning was good, with sightings of Sanderling, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Whimbrel, Red-necked Phalarope and Dunlin.
This bridge over Prairie Creek leads to some rustic wooden steps, inviting you to explore the autumn forest ahead. Photographed at Dolliver Memorial State Park near Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Away for a couple of days, we stayed in a provincial park yurt. This one was wheelchair accessible and was equipped with a massive deck that I'm sure will outlast the yurt itself. It was a cozy spot to be home away from home and well equipped with wood stove, propane barbecue, table and chairs, and slept up to 6 people. No electricity, though. We were very comfortable there with only the two of us - once we had heat on the second night - and I thought this point of view with the warm interior light looked inviting.

This striking image captures the essence of autumn's majestic beauty against a serene azure sky. The photograph showcases a diverse array of trees, each contributing its unique character to the seasonal tapestry.
Dominating the frame are deciduous trees ablaze with golden foliage, their leaves seemingly aflame in the soft light. These gilded branches reach upward, creating a warm contrast against the cool blue backdrop of the sky.
Interspersed among the golden boughs are evergreen pines, their deep green needles a reminder of nature's constancy amidst change. The pines add depth and texture to the scene, their sturdy silhouettes complementing the more delicate deciduous leaves.
A hint of vibrant red foliage peeks out from the lower right corner, adding a pop of intense color and hinting at the full spectrum of autumn's palette.
The composition draws the eye upward, mirroring the natural growth of the trees and creating a sense of ascension. This upward movement is balanced by the expansive sky, which provides a sense of openness and tranquility.
The image encapsulates the transient beauty of fall, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the harmonious interplay of colors and forms that mark this fleeting season. It's a visual ode to autumn's ability to transform the landscape into a breathtaking natural canvas.
With the local's chairs at the entry, Mission Beach was very inviting. Had the weather cooperated, I could have stayed here and explored more.

The lodge at Emerald Lake sure looked inviting as the temperatures began to plummet. The glow from the lights contrasted nicely with the blue hour conditions. Unfortunately, staying here was far outside our price range, so we had to settle for our warm sleeping bags instead!
It was 28 degrees this morning, as a brilliant sun rose over the mountains south of Tok, Alaska. At times ice coated the road, and the snow that had fallen overnight remained at the higher elevations. When I spotted this trail heading off to the mountains - I wanted to hop aboard an ATV and see where it led. There are so many places to investigate in Alaska, that you would need more than one lifetime to experience all of them.
Photo taken on Massachusetts Street in downtown Lawrence, Kansas. Blocks and blocks of nicely decorated storefronts and lights on trees made for a very picturesque downtown area this time of year. And with colorful lights, "sale" signs, cold weather outside and warm weather inside, the stores looked especially inviting! Of course, virtually none of them were open at 7 a.m. when I was walking around with my camera, but they still provided me with some good photo-taking opportunities!
The Norfolk Botanical Gardens incorporates numerous benches throughout. All of them are strategically placed to utilize the shades of beautiful trees, much to the appreciation of the summer-hot patrons.
