This picture is something that I've been wanting to do for over a year now. So I'm glad I got a chance to work on it this week. In life, I often find I have no idea at all where I'm heading. I've felt this way many, many times this past year with all the changes in my life and when I'm really at a loss as to an important life choice I have to make I take time out to listen to my intuition. So far it hasn't let me down and the lovely thing about it that I've found is that there is so much freedom in this not knowing and heading off into the unknown. In finding myself in a place or situation that I haven't been in before and might not ever have found myself in if I'd known in advance how hard it would be. But like all things that are hard to come by they are usually very well worth it.

Having spoken in great length with my sister in Greece yesterday, we touched upon many subjects, one of which brought up symbolic meanings for the owl!
*Intuition, ability to see what others do not see
*Change announced by the presence of an owl
*Capacity to see beyond deceit and masks
*Wisdom
Whether or not one believes in such ancient folklore, is a topic which can provoke interesting discussion. As an artist, I am open to many controversial subjects, especially related to the spiritual world.

When intuition and a little but of luck combine, THIS is the jaw dropping type of scene I end up coming across. It had just rained while I was out early in May, and I had been meaning to visit High Rock (near Pen Mar, MD). I went for a drive, got to the top and arrived to this. All I can say is good heavens.

We were in Madrid, killing time between flights. The door caught my attention, with the cavern-like walls behind and the green windows beyond. Stop! said my inner voice. For once, I obeyed. By the time I lifted the camera, this woman walked in. It all clicked. Only later I noticed that her shoes kinda match the windows. So...listen to your inner voice and keep your eyes open. The rest is luck.

He had trained himself never to forget any feature of the country through which he went, and now each tor, each weathered rock, was stamped on his memory like a photograph, and if he had to gallop through that photograph-escaping from either man or horse-he knew exactly where he could place each hard, strong hoof, exactly where he could leap, exactly where he could twist and run.

Fine art abstract of smoke arising from a burning incense stick shot in a non-studio open environment on 35mm film using a 50mm lens. - Smoke was totally spontaneous, without being guided or intervened by any object whatsoever, and its formation as it appears is totally free of any digital manipulation whatsoever.
This is smoke from a lit up incense stick placed in direct sunlight against a blackish background. No manipulation, either in guiding the smoke, or during post processing. All as it happened, in its natural form.
My little experience from this reveals that it takes much vigilance, attention, focus, and above all.... patience. All in all, quite a taxing endeavour.
Shooting it on film means there is no immediate image review after the exposure is over, which makes it even more challenging.

Das Sinnbild für Intuition ist - neben anderen Vögeln auch - besonders der Schwan. Der Volksmund verwendet diese Metapher wenn er sagt: “Mir schwant da etwas…“
Auf diese Weise kann man ausdrücken, dass man eine Ahnung von gewissen Umständen hat. Diese Intuition ist auf die Zukunft ausgerichtet.

Eine Soziologie Studentin saß einem Rentner gegenüber, der einen gelben Luftballon in der einen und seinen Spazierstock in der anderen Hand hielt. Neben seiner Schirmmütze fiel der dicke Schal auf, den er zweimal um seinen Hals gewickelt hatte.
Der schnauzbärtige Mann südländischen Typs erinnerte mich ein wenig an Alexis Sorbas, den griechischen Helden eines berühmten Romans, doch er hatte einen kaum wahrnehmbaren Akzent.
Die beiden waren über eine politische Frage ins Gespräch gekommen, doch sehr schnell auf eine persönliche Ebene geraten, denn die Zugfahrt sei zu kurz, um die Zeit mit oberflächlichem Gespräch zu verbringen, hatte Alexis gesagt. Aufgrund meiner Projektionen nannte ich ihn so, denn ich verspürte einen Drang, ihm einen Namen zu geben.
Alexis war Vater und Opa und ein schwieriger Gesprächspartner. Oberflächlich war er sehr höflich, doch machte er durch geschickte Umschreibungen klar, was er von bestimmten Dingen hielt. So sprach er beispielsweise davon, wie fraglich es sei, sich für gewisse Sachen einzusetzen, für die sich die Studentin interessierte.
„Das erzeugt Konflikte“, antwortete er auf die Frage, warum sie das nicht tun solle.
„Aber wir leben in einer Welt, die kontrovers ist.“
„Und in der der Stärkere siegt“, sagte er. „Doch der Stärkere ist selten der Weisere. Es geht hier aber nicht um die Politik, die Verwaltung oder die Wirtschaft. Es geht darum, was mit Ihrer Psyche geschieht, wenn Sie sich auf diese Ebene einlassen. Entweder Sie werden Gewinner oder Sie werden Verlierer und Opfer. Beides fordert seinen Preis, denn der Preis ist die Verhaftung im kleinen Geist.“
Die Studentin wollte wissen, ob sie das als Kleingeistigkeit oder Engstirnigkeit interpretieren solle und er gab zur Antwort „Ja! Aber es geht noch viel tiefer. Der kleine Geist ist Mensch, der große Geist Gott.“
Ob er gläubiger Christ sei, wollte die Studentin wissen, was er bejahte, doch er trenne die Kirche und ihre Interpretation der Heiligen Schrift von den Kernaussagen der Bibel. Er lese sie selbst und mache sich seine eigenen Gedanken. Sein Weg zu Gott sei ein leichter und kein beschwerter.
„Wie kann ich das verstehen?“
Der Weg zu Gott sei beschwert von falschen Vorstellungen. Alle Kirchen hätten sich in Interpretationen verfangen, hätten auf ihre Weise Dogmen aufgestellt und ein fest umrissenes Gottesbild geschaffen. Schon als Kind habe er sich die Frage gestellt, woher die Menschen wissen könnten, welche Eigenschaften Gott habe.
„Ich kann nur jedem raten, Gott selbst zu suchen. Die Himmelsleiter trägt jeder in sich.“
Und schon kreiste das Gespräch um diesen Begriff. Die Studentin gestand ein, dass sie zwar eine Abbildung derselben auf einem mittelalterlichen Gemälde schon einmal gesehen habe, doch wisse sie nichts Essentielles.
Die Himmelsleiter führe zurück ins Paradies und damit ins freie Bewusstsein. Das freie Bewusstsein sei nicht an falsche Vorstellungen und niedere Begierden gebunden. Triebhafte Energien, das seien die Dämonen, die den zu Gott aufstrebenden Geist in ihre niederen Gefilde ziehen. Wettkampf, Gegnerschaft, Protest und Rebellion, ob in der Politik oder in der eigenen Familie, das seien die Dämonen des Alltags, die Stress erzeugten und damit den Falls auf niedere Stufen der Erkenntnis.
„Aber es ist nicht notwendig, meine Ansichten zu verstehen.“ Damit beendete er seine Sichtweise und ich begriff nun besser, warum er aus seiner Sicht dem Engagement der jungen Frau kritisch gegenüber stand.
Ich musste lächeln, denn mir wurde auch bewusst, dass er in seinem Alter noch ein Rebell war und sich gegen jene herrschenden Kräfte des Universums stellte, die Konflikte und Schmerz brachten. Dennoch erschien ein Bild vor meinem inneren Auge, dass Alexis mit seinem Luftballon auf dem Weg in den Himmel zeigte. Den Ballon übrigens sollte seine Enkelin erhalten. Er war auf dem Weg zu ihrem Geburtstag.

Time alone is precious, isn't it? I had a feeling this quiet moment would mean something deep inside of me.
Even before the great Eye Of Thundera chimes to warn them Panthro can sense danger nearby as he and the young lord of the Thundercats patrol their new found home.
An unusual site was observed nearby Normanby on the Ekka loop this Saturday as 2706 and 2309 pulled loaded coal train 9823 through the city. The sweep of 42 coal wagons detoured on its route from Camedy Downs by preforming 4 laps of the City loop beginning at Milton and through Roma St, Bowen Hills then exhibition, training for the Summer holiday track closures. Soon after the train crossed the Merivale and headed to her destination of Fishermen Island, an empty coal train departed port which did the same 4 loops of the city before continuing west.
The last time I'm aware a coalie visited the City was back in 2009 due to a points failure at Corinda. Then, the locos detached from their load and ran around the train using the loop.
Superclydes have also once again made their way onto the coal trains since their usual job of hauling grain is now over for the season. They do a lovely job at spicing up the consist. This is the first time a 2700 has led a coalie through the city.
