This was passed on to me from my father.. I don't know much about Dr. Weil, but I found this powerful and thought-provoking, and wanted to share it with you.

Who have I been all this time?
How have I used my gift of a human life?
What do I need to "clear up" or "let go of" in order to be more peaceful?
What gives my life meaning?
For what am I grateful?
What have I learned of truth and how truthfully have I learned to live?
What have I learned of love and how well have I learned to love?
What have I learned about tenderness, vulnerability, and intimacy?
What have I learned about courage, strength, power, and faith?
What have I learned of the human condition and how great is my compassion?
How can I best share what I've learned?
What will give me strength as I die?
If I remembered that my breaths were numbered, what would be my relationship to this breath right now?
--Introspective Questions, Andrew Weil
the afternoon light does not judge. it falls on the counter, on the glass, on his hands. his arms are crossed, a line drawn against the world. the thought he is turning over in his mind is heavy. it has a shape and a weight. outside, the city makes its usual noise. inside, there is only the quiet work of memory.
Taken from my car while stopped at a traffic light. Best seen large by clicking on the photo, or press Z to zoom. Royal York United Church was organized in 1944 when the old Tomlinson church was physically moved from its market garden community to its present location at 851 Royal York Road, south of Bloor Street West, in Etobicoke.

the room was quiet. outside, the city was a distant hum of traffic. but inside, there was only the wooden table and the light that cut through the darkness. he did not speak. there was nothing left to say. the truth had a weight, a physical presence in the air. it sat there, between them, on the polished wood.
in a courtroom, you are questioned by others.
lawyers, a judge, a jury.
but the most difficult trial takes place
in the quiet moment before a mirror.
there, you are the witness, the prosecutor,
and the accused, all at once.
the evidence is your own reflection.
the gaze is steady, unflinching.
and the truth, for a brief moment,
is impossible to avoid.
After her jar fell to the ground and split apart, silence fell like dusk across the land. Pandora wandered—no longer a figure of myth, but a woman marked by what she had experienced. She drifted to the edge of an unseen vale where twilight held its breath, and the wind whispered stories of her past.
There, with hands still trembling from what her heart now carried, she used a shard of glass and began to plant the mysterious seeds the jar contained. Her movements slowed, deliberate—each press into the earth like a heartbeat remembered.
To her relief, roses began to bloom.
Each bloom sprang from a fragment of loss and hope. Crimson petals bled into the soil like echoes of love once spoken. The white ones drank moonlight like lost promises waiting to be remembered, reaching toward the stars before the dawn of a new day.
But deep within the garden, shielded by thorns and time, a single rose glowed with the softness of morning Hope. It pulsed gently, emitting a tune only hearts in mourning could hear. She had buried it where the jar’s last whisper had settled, nursing it with memory and her silent song.
Over time, the garden grew wild, a tapestry of longing woven in fragrance and thorns. Travelers who came upon it felt things indescribable stir within them. Some wept. Some knelt. None left unchanged.
And Pandora—no longer wondering—walked again through that breathless vale. Above her, the dusk stirred not with silence, but with promise. She recalled this saying: "The one who dares to open a closed heart, will learn to cultivate beauty in the darkness".

he looks toward the light, but carries the darkness with grace. a portrait of quiet strength and unanswered questions — suspended somewhere between what is and what could be.

The Swiss pavilion is titled “Reflections”. This has a double meaning: the reflections that the pavilion's mirrored façade creates, and a more introspective and profound reflection on the beauty of nature and sustainable development.
a woman in motion. a red umbrella breaking the grey city. quiet elegance, a moment caught between the rain and her thoughts. framed by the streets, lost in her own world.
a moment suspended in stillness. she reaches toward the window not to escape, but to feel the warmth of the light — as if its presence might speak. between the rhythm of shadows and the silence of iron bars, there’s a calm defiance. she isn’t waiting. she’s listening.
her mind drifted outward, yet her hands held time still — like a quiet sculpture made of breath and thought.
The sail slips past the waves like a whispered promise,
and the gulls cry secrets the sea has long forgotten.
Behind the glass, a cactus leans toward light,
brave in its stillness.
The flowers nod - purple sentinels of fleeting beauty.
Somewhere between the lighthouse and the living room rug,
a soul watches quietly,
not searching, not hiding,
just existing in that rare, golden pause
before what comes next.

This is a very confusing time for me. I feel more and more alienated from the world, from the people around me who live as if nothing had happened. As if nothing was happening. As if tomorrow won't be even worse. And worse with each passing year. As if it wasn't written, as if, for twenty years, reason hadn't been shouting at us to slow down. How can we still say that everything will be fine and do nothing, or so little?
As if there were no soldiers devoured by war, no forests devoured by fire, no poor people devoured by the rapacity of a few jet-setters who, from the top of their clouds, make the earth burst. I have the impression of being the only one to see, to live what unfolds before my frightened eyes. I feel like I am a fool, or surrounded by fools. It's not the work that exhausts me. It's the human species.

"A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying: You are mad, you are not like us."

I hid myself in creation. Introspective, Blind, Living picture #2 and #3, Proverb, and the projects to come... I'm going through them without a break. There is a great mess in my life, in my head, in my soul. I thought recently that a light soul should be full of bumps, stripes and bruises.
Yet every day is the happiest day of my life.

a sliver of light slices through silence. the man is no more than a moving shadow—part of the wall, part of the void. in this moment, even the geometry breathes.
I'm not sure how this self introspective series of mine will be viewed, please give me some honest critique. :-)
it's Introspective Saturday.
I am quite in love with this wireless café. It is, in fact, the first café I have ever come across that is *entirely* dedicated to a wireless clientele. Every table has several outlets within easy reach. It is called the Linuxcaffé. There are linux books everywhere. It's an odd mix of grungy hippie meets technogeek. Neat!
I look forward to Cozy Sunday, though, and tomorrow's cozy tea-time post!

beneath the ancient wall, time leans into silence. light pours like memory across weathered stone, and two figures walk as if passing through a story already written. in their long shadows, you feel the weight of centuries, the softness of now.

she was focused on her phone, fingers moving across the screen. then she looked up. just for a second. a glance, sharp and unreadable. raindrops clung to her umbrella, the city moved around her. but in that moment, it was just her and the camera.
he doesn’t move. not because he can’t — but because there’s power in staying still. in the silence around him, the frame becomes a stage. his gaze cuts sideways, not to escape, but to measure. shadow swells at his feet, the chair holds him like an unspoken crown, and light brushes his face just enough to let you wonder what he sees — or what he’s waiting for.
he doesn’t move. the ocean, the breeze, the sailboats — none of it touches him. bent over a glowing screen, with his face in shadow and light behind him, he becomes the emblem of now. he sits like punctuation at the edge of the frame: a full stop at the end of the day, waiting for something that won't return.
As I sit here in the calm of the new tea café in Woodcrest, my thoughts are introspective yet hopeful. This photo, "Looking Forward," captures a moment of quiet reflection on the last day of 2023. It's a reminder to cherish the simple pleasures, like the warmth of a sunbeam or the comfort of a favorite café. As the year draws to a close, I find myself contemplating the path I've traveled and the one that lies ahead. The coming year is like an unwritten chapter, and I'm ready to fill its pages with new stories, lessons, and adventures. Here's to embracing the future with an open heart and a curious spirit. Happy New Year to all—may we all look forward with optimism and courage.
