The Indian Mynah is an introduced species here in Oz and is quite a pest, taking over/destroying the habitat of our native birds. They are somewhat photogenic though.

Bubs is a sulphur crested cockatoo that lives in the aviary in the Palmerston North Esplanade gardens.
Quite a character and will say to you "want a scratch" and then lean his head against the mesh and enjoy a head scratch from anyone keen to do it!

Yesterday I adopted this pretty girl from a local shelter. She was found as a stray in Modesto, California, back in August. At one point, there was already a date set to euthanize her. She's been through a rough few months.
She is about 5 years old and clearly has some Australian Cattle Dog (Red Heeler) in her.
The whole adoption process was very stressful for me as well, so difficult to make such a monumental choice in an extremely chaotic and distracting environment, but as soon as Tidda walked in, I began to relax. We just fit!
She has been quite traumatized by her ordeal and was even medicated with trazodone (sedating antidepressant) in California, but in the 24 hours I've had her, she has already begun her new life well and actually is sleeping a lot. It seems like she recognizes a dog-shaped emptiness beside me and naturally steps into that space.
I named her Tidda, which is an indigenous Australian word for sister or female friend. As all creatures are our brothers and sisters, she will be my sister. And she is also Blanca's sister in spirit.

"Sendo" is the pet of a friend who came to visit us in Riaza.
"His" name comes from the Spanish rock singer Rosendo.
In addition to being a beautiful English setter, Sendo is simply a good, affectionate and very smart dog.
"His" owner defines "him" as a "Zen dog." With that I think I have already said everything.

Ebrahim came over with Hassan and another Iranian friend 2 weeks ago for Hassan's photo shoot. Ebrahim is also a student in one of the local universities. He was keen his photo to be taken too. I did some simple shot of him.

The Urban Fox
Wild foxes have learned to adapt to the urban environment in order to survive. By nature, foxes are nocturnal and hunt at night, whereas the urban fox has adapted its behavior to survive and can be seen during daylight hours.
Locally, a fox vixen has located her den in the foundational remains of a razed building complex along the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore. She has six Kits, which can be seen frolicking in the debris and along the dunes during the day. The fox family has become local celebrities and unfortunately people have begun feeding them. Never feed wild animals. Although you may feel as if you’re helping them survive, you are actually harming them. Feeding foxes can alter their natural behavior and they may lose its fear of humans.
“Wildlife that is fed by people become less experienced at forging for their natural food and may become dependent on handouts that are not a part of their natural diets. Red Fox
The Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes, is the largest of the true foxes and the most abundant wild member of the Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere from the Arctic Circle to North Africa, North America and Eurasia. It is listed as least concern by the IUCN. Its range has increased alongside human expansion, having been introduced to Australia, where it is considered harmful to native mammals and bird populations. Due to its presence in Australia, it is included among the list of the "world's 100 worst invasive species".

We had heard about her and drove over 4 hours in dry riverbeds of Ugab and Kuiseb to find her. She is a welcome addition to the rare desert elephants in Namibia, somewhat smaller than the other elephants, 4 months old.
My roomate's new kitty...she brought her home from the Shelter last nite..Isn't she lovely ?.we are now a 3-cat family.

Day 6 - Introduce Yourself
I have 6 Olympus cameras and 5 Nikons. I hardly ever use my Nikons, as compaired to the Olies, they are bricks, but maybe over the coming year, the Nikons will get an airing.
My favourite camera is the one I am holding ... Olympus Pen-F with a 17mm. My least favourite is the Olympus Tough TG-5. The camera on the table is a D810 and is my favourite Nikon.

Formerly known as Hovis we have renamed him..many names were bandied about in the process..Archie and Burtie for their Zummerzet r's , Scruffy and Scamp, Biscuit, Toastie, Eddie, Ernie, David and Nigel but we have finally settled on Dennis firstly because of his huge 'Dennis Healey eyebrows' and our love of Dennis the Menace and that Dennis said quickly did sound a bit like his original name Hovis.
Introducing Sassi - as I said on Friday, we decided to get two kittens so that they could occupy each other/play all the time and not bother Mandy. So this is Sassafras or Sassi. She is a ragdoll with aqua eyes - I'll try to get a shot with natural light soon so that you can really appreciate her eyes. She is four months old and it seems like she will live up to her nickname. Had a bit of a drama!! I was at the hospital very early Saturday morning for my 3 monthly checkup with my Hematologist and I came back to find my daughter guarding a large bundle on the chair.
She had heard some tiny noises from my storage area, went in and found baby. She did everything right, made a pouch from a towel then wrapped a jumper round it and waited for me.
Thanks to her, she saved Dumpling's baby. I wouldn't care I had heard possums fighting the previous night but thats pretty normal round here, but now I know it was Dumpling and baby got knocked out of the pouch.
I spent the rest of the day until 3am with baby wrapped up in a pouch and a hot water bottle on my lap. I was really worried about her being dehydrated because remember they are permanently attached to the mothers teat for 5 months and I switched from warm sugar water to half strength powdered milk made up with honey and water and I was able to feed her every hour.

The only bad things about them…they have a short life, max 2 years…
It’s a pain, but I couldn’t resist to take another one…they’re so precious in their littleness…
Even Lassie smelled him in his cage while I was taking some shots… he’s so shy and still afraid!
But I hear him running in his wheels when the dark falls (they’re nocturne!)…

I was introduced to Maryam by another Iranian friend who studied together with her in the Local University. I even met Maryam when I visited Iran last year in Rasht, Iran. As a Persian, Maryam still maintaining the legendary Iranian hospitality when I meet her.
Today I decided to do a photoshoot with Maryam around her apartment and we really had great time doing the shoot.
