Had a great time being interviewed by Bill Lytton for PetaPixel.
"I first heard of Jim Mortram and his project ‘Small Town Inertia’ in the ‘Ones to Watch’ section of the British Journal of Photography. At first, I was happy that someone from my homeland, Norfolk, was making an impact in the photographic world. But of all projects I’d seen in BJP, Small Town Inertia was the only that gripped me.
Jim is a documentary photographer in the rural town of Dereham, Norfolk in the UK. The project portrays the lives of those “living on the fringe of society”, often focussing on the emotional, mental and physical hardships of those involved. The images, accompanied by text and quotations, make up this “long-form documentary and environmental portraiture series” with captivating brutal honesty.

Why do you craft?
I craft from pallets because it’s an affordable material and to help repurpose them into useful items.
How did you learn to do wood crafts?
I guess it started in high school wood shop. I didn’t really start making things until I was much older.
How long have you been working with pallets?
I have been working with pallets since September of 2013, when I made my first pallet bar for my cousin’s 50th birthday party. The bar was a huge hit and everyone loved it.

Why did you choose to work with pallets instead of purchased wood?
They are usually free and its fun to see how they can be changed into something purdy.
Are there any brands that are your favorites?
No preference.

How would you describe your crafting style?
I would say it’s rustic.
Are there any crafters/artists/designers that you particularly look up to?
I really like Jimmy Diresta’s work. You can Google him to find him easily!
Where do you do your wood crafts? How would you describe your workspace?
I work out of my home in a large metal work shop that’s a work in progress itself.
Where do you look for inspiration for a new woodcraft?
I like Pinterest because it gets my mind thinking about projects.
When do you feel the most creative?
Weekend warrior because I have a full-time job.

What is your favorite medium to work in (other than pallets)?
Recycled items, I like to find roadside treasures and upcycle them.
What are your tips for people who'd like to start crafting?
Jump into a project and don’t worry about it being perfect, be safe take your time and enjoy your creation.
What are your most important safety tips when woodworking? Have you ever had any injuries or close calls?
Power tools can be very dangerous, so take precautions. I have put a drill bit thru my fingernail, poked my eye with pliers, cut my fingers etc., etc.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Beer and cigars.

What are some of your other hobbies or favorite things to do (other than crafting)?
I love classic cars!
What are some of your best tips for breaking down, prepping, and cleaning pallets before you build with them? Do you have a specific tool you use, or a technique for cleaning the boards/removing nails, etc.?
Pressure wash or hose wash pallets if you want to paint them. I used a 90’ angle grinder to cut nail heads then pop the boards of with crow bar and hammer.
Have you designed any special tools or jigs for wood crafts?
Nope.
What is the one project you’re the proudest of so far?
My tiki bar creations, each one gets a little better that I make.

→ Kid: I usually live alone. I own myself a trailer. It's convenient and I'm always on the road anyways, so its easier that way. I used to have her live with me, but like I said, she comes and goes whenever the fuck she wants to.
25. What is the most sentimental thing you own and why?
→ Kid: I ain't got none. Okay, maybe the necklace she gave me but I ain't no sappy fucker so I don't wear that shit around every day, you hear?
26. Are you in a relationship? How's it working out for you?
→ Kid: No. I said no.
27. What's the worst you've ever been injured or sick?
→ Kid: When I got jumped by bunch of stooges when I was a bit younger. Got few broken ribs, and a stitching on my eyebrow and back of the head.

Lyerla received a three-year sentence for passport fraud and aggravated identity theft.

The application method for flight attendant jobs is often extremely competitive, therefore being well ready for your interview can facilitate your stand out from the group. Job interviews are often trying and a few folks cope well fraught higher than others.
Assemble Borg designer Yasuhiro Nightow is a Takara SF Land fan so it's worth scrutinising his designs for nods to the classic lines that inspired him. For instance, this particular look for the Nexus figure could be seen as an updated Cybercop design. The chin, massive scowl and chest piece seem to be a tip of the hat to Lucifer Bit while the ear-wings are reminiscent of Mercury Bit.
The Cybercop figures never really got the recognition they deserved back then. They were superbly-articulated, the accessories were fantastic (and this being a Takara line, there naturally was a drill) and there was even a slick vehicle. If they look fairly unimpressive 27 years later, you need only look at the competition to appreciate just how outstanding they were at the time.
Cybercop was later repackaged and sold in the US as ZAP Power Force but it seemed to have made no impact whatsoever. That really was typical of Takara: great action figures coupled with mediocre marketing.
But it really says a lot that another generation of toy designers are taking inspiration from those old designs. The Diaclone toys may have less cachet than their Transformers counterparts but with fans like Shogo Hasui around, it's no surprise there's going to be an update of Diabattles thirty years later.
