Hormuz Island, Hormozgān Province - Persian Gulf, Iran

Hormuz Island is an Iranian island in the Persian Gulf. Located in the Strait of Hormuz, 5 miles off the Iranian coast, the island is part of Hormozgān Province.

Based on the studies geology, Hormuz island was born in 600 million years ago and also about 50 thousand years ago coming out of the water.

Hormuz Island has an area of 42 km2 (16 sq mi). It is covered by sedimentary rock and layers of volcanic material on its surface. The highest point of the island is about 186 metres (610 ft) above sea level. Due to a lack of precipitation, the soil and water are salty. Specialists have helped cultivar white mangrove or Hara trees to grow in the climate. There are many virgin beaches that go all around the island.

Every moment travel on Hormuz island is like traveling on another planet and every 5 minutes hiking on the island, scenery and colors quickly changes! The island of Hormuz is where the warm waters of the Persian Gulf meet the red and silver sand of the island and create a marvelous combination of colors. Therefore Hormuz an island that can be called the "Rainbow Island".

You can see a part of the amazing "Valley of the Statues" and the "Strait of Hormuz" in Persian Gulf of this photo.

About ..Valley of the Statues:

This stunningly beautiful natural site is called "Valley of the Statues" because here tall rocks have been sculpted into strange shapes by the elements. With a bit of imagination you can see a dragon, birds and mythical creatures. The site is located on a bluff that affords fantastic vistas of the coastline.

>>> COOPER

We've always defined ourselves by the ability to overcome the impossible. And we count these moments. These moments when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, to make the unknown known. We count these moments as our proudest achievements. But we lost all that. Or perhaps we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers. And we've barely begun. And that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us.

The Lagoon Nebula (M8, NGC 6523) is a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius. It is classified as an emission nebula and as a H II region. In the foreground is the open star cluster NGC 6530.

The Lagoon Nebula is estimated to be between 4,000-6,000 light years from the Earth and measures 110 by 50 light years.

The nebula contains a number of Bok globules (dark, collapsing clouds of protostellar material). It also includes a funnel-like or tornado-like structure caused by a hot O-type star that emanates ultraviolet light, heating and ionizing gases on the surface of the nebula.

The Lagoon Nebula also contains at its centre a structure known as the Hourglass Nebula (the densest, brightest part). In 2006 the first four Herbig–Haro objects were detected within the Hourglass (a Herbig-Haro object is where jets emitted from a newly forming star interact with surrounding nebulosity).

This image was shot in mapped colour - Sulphur II emissions mapped to red, Hydrogen alpha to green and Oxygen III to blue - the so-called Hubble Palette.

When I noticed this sky it immediately transported my thoughts to an interstellar cloudscape. Shot on the Firth of Clyde, Scotland.

An illustration of ‘Oumuamua, the first object we’ve ever seen pass through our own solar system that has interstellar origins.

In October, a mysterious object zipped through our solar system at 196,000 mph. Scientists named it ‘Oumuamua, which means “a messenger from afar arriving first” in Hawaiian, and it’s the first object we’ve ever seen that entered from outside our solar system. Now our astrophysicists have helped calculate how it fits into what we know about how planetary systems form.

“This object was likely ejected from a distant star system,” said Elisa Quintana, an astrophysicist at Goddard. “What’s interesting is that just this one object flying by so quickly can help us constrain some of our planet formation models.”

On Sept. 19, ‘Oumuamua sped past the Sun at about 196,000 mph (315,400 km/h), fast enough to escape the Sun’s gravitational pull and break free of the solar system, never to return. Usually, an object traveling at a similar speed would be a comet falling sunward from the outer solar system. Comets are icy objects that range between house-sized to many miles across. But they usually shed gas and dust as they approach the Sun and warm up. ‘Oumuamua didn’t. Some scientists interpreted this to mean that ‘Oumuamua was a dry asteroid.

This image is a work in progress that is only partially complete. I have decided to post it now in this incomplete state for two reasons. The first is because I really like the look of it as it's developing, I think it's really cool and I LOVE the space dust! The second reason is because the weather has been so poor in our area that I have no idea if we will get enough clear sky nights in the next two months for me to complete the project. In April these objects become essentially inaccessible till next Fall.

Technical info:

Many astrophotographers use a method for processing their images where they create a starless version of the image by carefully removing the stars. Then after doing various detailed processes on the starless version, they add the stars back in. That is the stage where this project currently is, except it's still very rough and noisy and needs several more hours of imaging added to give it the smooth high quality look I'm hoping for. Also, the details in the core of Orion are blown out from overexposure and need to be added back in later.

This image is being shot with my stock Nikon D5500 and my Nikon 300/f4 ED IF wildlife telephoto lens. Stock cameras like mine have not been specially modified for doing astrophotography so they are not very sensitive to Hydrogen alpha gas which makes up a lot of space dust. Therefore, I have to spend many more hours out there imaging in order to get some decent space dust in an image than someone using a modified camera that has been sooped-up for that purpose.

This nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation of Canis Major. The central star is the Wolf-Rayet star WR7, This is a extremely hot star thought to be close to it's supernova stage of evolution. The nebula has an overall bubble shape, but with complex filamentary structures. It is largely interstellar material swept up by winds from the central star, although some material does appear to be enriched with the products of fusion and is likely to come directly from the star

Compared to the previous versions, I think I've managed to capture the distinct arrow-head shape much better, along with the low profile angles. It's also about 30% bigger now and that has meant I've been able to really go to town on the windows!

Over the past year or so I have been finding myself shooting more intimates and abstracts. Abstract patterns typically portray an artistic side of nature and they frequently resonate with modern art.

Perched above Mendenhall Glacier, Aaron and I looked down upon the textures and crevices of the glacier. Compacted by gravity the ice formed rugged shelves but at the edge of the glacier I spotted a section with smoother textures resembling those of dunes. A combination of blue ice, black dirt, and white, these dunes reminded me of a painting of a barren freezing landscape.

I sure hope you got to stop by this insane music festival! It was unreal!

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Have a fantastic weekend my friends :)

I have often wondered if my local woodland would be suitable for some night photography, tonight I found out.

Putting all my irrational fear to one side, I walked deep into the woods and held my ground as the light of the day ebbed away and the darkness of the night crept in.

The creaking of branches and snapping of twigs underfoot, the sniffling and snorting of badgers, the shrieks of owls and foxes slowly raised in volume from all around, but my gaze and concentration were transfixed at the appearance of the universe above, I found perspective!

I looked over the edge of a NYC skyscraper above 42nd Street and saw another dimension.
