Strange shapes and textures can be found in neighborhood of the Cone Nebula. The unusual shapes originate from fine interstellar dust reacting in complex ways with the energetic light and hot gas being expelled by the young stars. The brightest star on the right of the above picture is S Mon, while the region just below it has been nicknamed the Fox Fur Nebula for its color and structure. The blue glow directly surrounding S Mon results from reflection, where neighboring dust reflects light from the bright star. The red glow that encompasses the whole region results not only from dust reflection but also emission from hydrogen gas ionized by starlight. S Mon is part of a young open cluster of stars named NGC 2264, located about 2500 light years away toward the constellation of the Unicorn (Monoceros). Even though it points right at S Mon, details of the origin of the mysterious geometric Cone Nebula, visible on the far left, remain a mystery.

TimeCruisers is one of my top 5 fave themes. Not only because I grew up reading the comics. But the action and sense of adventure in the sets them selves led my childhood into many worlds of imagination. Also the absolute ridiculousness of parts used to make their wacky contraptions was hilariously fun!

Interstellar space ship build to serve as main store for DNA / Signatures product lines, as well as a setting for sci-fi role play.
This is the second interstellar comet ever discovered (the first one was Borisov; the very first interstellar object discovered - Oumuamua - wasn't a comet). It was discovered on July 1, 2025. The comet in this image is extremely faint (magnitude around 17.5), and also moving quite fast in the sky, so it was very challenging to make this photo. I photographed the comet 17 days after its discovery, from my light polluted backyard in Hamilton, Ontario. I took 90 images using 1-minute exposure through my 8-inch Ritchey–Chrétien telescope, with SvBony SV705C camera. The processing was done using the free software ASTAP.
The comet is still on it's way to the closest to the Sun point (will reach it on October 29), but it's no longer visible in the northern hemisphere.

Christmas Eve.
And all preparation was done, all presents and provisions bought and stowed away and/or wrapped.
A Tuesday, apparently, and nothing at all to do.
We had a shower early on, had coffee, then by ten had breakfast and another coffee, and so we were ready to face the world.
Which pretty much involved drinking tea and snacking, watching videos on YouTube and listening to podcasts.
We did not go to the gym, but it had closed by lunchtime.
We did go out for a walk. Jools up to Windy Ridge, but me just up and down the streets of the estate on a new year plant hunt, and easily completed the #winter10 challenge of plants in flower.
Come four in the afternoon, and with shops closing or already closed, I suggested we drive to Deal to look in wonder at the festive lights. And maybe have a beer out.
The roads were already quiet into town, and in the main town car park there were spaces.
I paid for an hour, and we set off to explore.
The lights were on the main street, and street furniture got in the way in places, but I took shots.
Then round to Middle Street, to get shots of the narrow street and fake Victorian lighting, before walking back to the Just Reproach, but finding it full, we went to the car and drove back.
Getting back we had supper of party food, then settled down to watch Interstellar in demand, which was OK, and at least Matt Damon played against type.
At half nine, we went to bed, and so the house fell silent, all ready for Santa's visit.
