While I'm trying to figure out how to take this thing with me on a plane to afolcon next month, I thought I'd share a quick look at its 'private parts'.
Whilst travelling the 'scenic route' to a job yesterday and taking a road I can't remember having used the past, we happened upon this Foden 8 wheeler (and an ERF) with an odd body. I'm guessing that the pair of them would have been, in old industrial railway terms, Internal user wagons.
DL9475 with train 397 has stopped on the main line through Morrinsville to assist Train 474 which is in the yard sidings. The driver of the new DL9521 was having a problem associated with releasing the brakes. 397's driver was able to assist and the problem was resolved within a relatively short period. During the new DL's troubles, a rotating amber beacon was observed working. It can be seen just below the loco's frame to the rear of the battery box and ahead of the rear bogie. This is a new feature of the latest DL production series and I assume it has something to do with fault awareness and/or brake issues.
The 770 was introduced with the internal code W07 in 1930.

These cars were mainly used by governments as state vehicles.
This engine produced 150 brake horsepower (110 kW) at 2800 rpm without supercharging.

We just built up my wife's new Toei Mixte touring bicycle. Its...exquisite. I visited the Toei factory to place the order in September of 2008, and we received the frame in early May of 2009. Notables: The frame is lugged Kaisei double-butted steel. It has internal wiring for the rear brake (through the top-tube) and for the fender-mounted taillight (through the down-tube). The paint job is clear-coated "eggplant". I built the wheels with Mavic A719 rims, and there is a new Shimano DH-3N80 dynohub up front. The rest of the components are a mix of Sugino, Shimano, Honjo, and Nitto parts. Besides the rims, we tried to keep the whole bike Japanese. Let us know what you think! My wife wants to hear that everyone is jealous...; )
Interesting story: I contacted Nitto here in Japan to purchase some of their Noodle bars (mod.177) that are so popular in the states and that I have on my bike. They told me that they do not sell them in Japan. I pleaded with them to be reasonable (the man on the phone was holding a 44cm mod.177 in his hands at the time) but they refused to allow me to purchase it domestically! I ended up having to order the noodle bars from Velo-Orange. Those bars had a long, pointless round-the-world-and-back trip before they made it onto this bike. I guess that probably cancels out any type of carbon footprint karma that this bike will ever accumulate.
You didn't think I'd post a Rose Garden landscape without a few rose shots, did you?!
The Portland Rose Garden, though rather soggy from our very wet spring, still yielded many a gorgeous beauty!

As you can see, I had a bit of trouble with this transfer, and the photo isn't quite the right angle.

Bandelier National Monument
This chamber-inside-chamber view at Bandelier was an enigmatic experience for me as my imagination took flight for its exact usage. I’m sure it was a highly functional construct but I just couldn’t help but wondering if it had been a mischievous, playful trick.
The thin brass tube goes all the way through with two reinforcements at either end. Tubes are all prepped and I can finally put this one together. #macro #fillet #brasstube #steel #chapmancycles
Unless you visit the depot you won't see these Quicksilver support vehicles as they are all confined to the depot complex and never venture out onto the public highway. The Fordson tractor yard shunter should be familiar as it has been pictured here a couple of times already. The skid-steer loader is a weathered and detailed Matchbox toy and the sweeper is a Wiking HO scale model. The forklift, a vital piece of equipment for performing engine changes, is from B-T Models/Base Toys, and the little electric truck is a plastic moulding by a company called J&LR Ltd that I picked up cheaply at a model railway show; it was perhaps not my best buy though as the plastic has gone brittle and I've already had to repair it a couple of times! It is delivering a safe that will eventually be installed in the traffic office upstairs.
