Last weekend, Dustin and I did a maternity studio shoot with Hadley and her husband Michael. Fortunately, she's a doctor, so she had some great props to work with.
Strobist info: Nikon SB900 on 1/4 power in 28 inch softbox, same height as subject about a foot away from her knee, positioned slightly behind her, camera left. Another Nikon SB900 on 1/4 power about 5ft from subject with grid spot, pointing downwards, camera right.
Early morning settles into the Presidio with a calm that feels earned rather than staged. Along a lightly traveled internal road, a low, wood-clad building sits beneath a pale sky, its form emerging gradually as night gives way. The light is cool and even, revealing weathered shingles, vented gables, and a long, sheltered porch that speaks to utility more than display.
This is the Presidio at its most characteristic. The building’s proportions are practical, its materials straightforward, shaped by climate and use rather than ornament. Repeating rooflines create a gentle rhythm across the façade, while shaded windows and boarded openings suggest a structure in transition — neither abandoned nor fully activated. An empty parking area stretches quietly in the foreground, reinforcing the sense of pause that defines these early hours.
What distinguishes the scene is its restraint. The Presidio has always been a place where buildings are asked to coexist with landscape, not dominate it. Trees frame the edges, grass rises unevenly along the slope, and the architecture holds its place without insisting on attention. There is no spectacle here, only continuity.
Moments like this reveal a side of San Francisco that often goes unnoticed. Before visitors arrive and before daily activity resumes, the Presidio reads as a working landscape with a long memory — layered, patient, and quietly present. The building doesn’t explain itself, and it doesn’t need to. It belongs to the morning, and to the ground it occupies.

What a moment. I love this moon-like landscape, desolate and expansive, feeling ancient and new at the same time, emanating the intertwining of destruction and rebirth...how closely nature's landscapes reflect our own internal horizons.

The wars that we battle from within.
This location had a really cool stack of black rocks(probably pigmented by the dirt) and I was really inspired to use the powdered paint that I had with me and though that it would really look nice against the dark rocks and really pop out. And while I was preparing everything I was thinking of a good pose to do for the concept and decided to go for imitating the rocks being static and then added some tension to my body.
PS. I was not completely naked during the shooting of this photo.
PPS. There were a few people enjoying the view of me while shooting this photo and from over the rocks and probably took some BTS photos without me knowing. You know who you are! lol

Explore a world of colour and light inside a giant, blow-up labyrinth of winding tunnels and soaring-high domes at Federation Square..

Arboria is a monumental, walk-in sculpture with a 10-metre high grand dome at its centre..
.
Inspired by the shapes and form of the forest, you will wonder through its luminous tree-like structures, see the patterns of leaves and branches above and hear and hear a soundscape, which originated in the Ecuadorian Cloud Forest..

Each dome bears its own stylised leaf motif rendered in graphic simplicity, yet its centre dome is an interpretation of the tall Gothic windows and arching columns of Chapter House at York Minister, UK..

Arboriais created by Alan Parkinson of internationally acclaimed Architects of Air (UK) and is one of a series of Luminaria, which are inflatable structures designed to generate a sense of wonder and enchantment..

Touring Australia in association with Insite Arts, Arboria will exhibit in Melbourne only at Federation Square..

Internally, has been greatly altered over the years, to suit changing needs. The laigh floor in the west end of the main block had a vaulted ceiling, but this has now been leveled. The apartments are roomy and numerous, some retaining their original moulded fireplaces.
Plewlands was in danger of being demolished 60 or so years ago and a vigorous campaign was mounted to save it. It was subsequently restored by the National Trust in 1955 and divided into seven flats.
same basic image as my first one today but gave it an internal flip so quite a different design really...anyhow just stuck it in for interest....

Edinburgh during the easing of restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic (tier three).
Spaces for People measures on George IV Bridge. These were installed in the Old Town of Edinburgh during the Covid-19 pandemic to provide more space for pedestrians and cyclists. Emergency Traffic Regulation Orders (ETROs) were used throughout Edinburgh to provide extra room for social distancing and cycle lanes.
Although these measures claim to improve mobility, there are complaints they have done the opposite and those with disabilites have been adversely affected. The floating bus stop outside the main central library on this street, and opposite the National Library of Scotland, has been amended. The council say they are no longer installing floating bus stops (they are intrisincally dangerous - particularly for the hearing or sight impaired - and probably contrary to the Equality Act).
The internal auditors gave the implemention of the scheme a 'red' rating in August 2021 (see below). In the wake of this, and the lack of public support for the measures, traffic experts at the council are proposing rebranding Spaces for People as ‘Travelling Safely’. It is also reported the Spaces for People measures on George IV Bridge are to be 'scrapped' although the measures in other areas are to remain (16 Aug 2021).

Alternative infrastructure for cyclists will be put in place - let's hope it is better designed with people with disabilities in mind.
"...council officials said because a new scheme for George IV Bridge/Forrest Road had already been approved by the committee the legal advice was an ETRO could not be used in that case."

The city council belatedly held a consultation on the Spaces for People measures and reported this to the council’s Transport and Environment Committee on 17 June 2021. An Evening News report stated 17,600 people responded to the online public consultation which resulted in "overall opposition for a majority of the proposals except those designed to make school areas safer and less congested."
The Herald reported: "...only 38% of the public support the council’s protected cycle lanes compared to 56% who oppose them. Only 37% of people support measures along shopping streets and 35% back leisure connections." Furthermore businesses overwhelmingly oppose the policy. (Most of the businesses on this street are restaurants and have supplies delivered through their front doors.)

In early August 2021 it emerged Edinburgh City Council's internal auditors had given the council a red rating in relation to the Spaces for people scheme. The auditor's report said there was a lack of consultation with residents and "significant and/or numerous control weaknesses were identified, in the design and/or effectiveness of the control environment and/or governance and risk management frameworks".
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-58160674
The report said the specific measures were based on suggestions from a relatively small group of officers and community stakeholders and the final prioritisation decisions were based the judgment of two of the project team.
