A front door intercom need not always be non-de-script. A creative mind can marvel at even the simplest things in life, as this example in Amsterdam shows.
Voice Tunnel is an interactive light and sound installation by Mexican-Canadian artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, will transform the 1,400 foot long Park Avenue Tunnel with 300 theatrical spotlights that produce glimmering arches of light along the tunnel’s walls and ceiling. Participants will be able to influence the intensity of each light by speaking into a special intercom at the tunnel’s center which records their voice and loops it. Louder speech will increase the lights’ brightness proportionally, creating a Morse-like code of flashes throughout the tunnel.

The intercom system with the microphone is used to communicate between everyone on the broadcast crew from the camera men, to the announcers, to the sportvision operators.
It's also used by the producer to inquire "What part of roll do you not fucking understand?!" or "Sportvision! Billboard! Where the fuck is my billboard!". It's also a great way to let a guy on the crew know you banged his wife last night.

An old intercom that was on the wall of the room where I stayed in Davis Hall at the Truro Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College while taking a course in 2002.
GLAMOUREUZE KEUZE …
Je staat er niet dagelijks bij stil maar het gebied bij Alphen aan den Rijn werd 2000 jaar geleden al bewoond. In de Romeinse tijd was de Oude Rijn de hoofdtak van de Rijn en doordat deze rivier bij overstromingen zand en klei afzette, ontstond er een landschap van oeverwallen en kommen. Je vindt het nog steeds terug in de naamgeving van de stadsdelen “Hoge zijde” en “Lage zijde”, aan de linker- respectievelijk rechteroever van de rivier. De huidige gemeente Alphen aan den Rijn is gevormd in 1918 toen de kleinere gemeenten Alphen, Aarlanderveen en Oudshoorn werden samengevoegd. In 1964 kwam daar Zwammerdam nog bij.
Anno 2013 biedt deze Zuid Hollandse gemeente op enkele minuten lopen van het centrum een duidelijk comfortabelere manier van wonen en leven dan ten tijde van de Romeinen. Dat geldt zeker voor de bewoners van het op toplocatie gelegen Zuidland. Hier vind je een uiterst luxe afgewerkt en privacy biedend appartementencomplex waar Romeinse voorvaderen zich nooit enige voorstelling van hebben kunnen maken!
Wanneer je op de begane grond via de afgesloten entree met videofooninstallatie het complex betreedt, dan kom je in de centrale hal waar zich de lift, het trappenhuis en de toegang tot je eigen (fietsen)berging bevindt. De vooruitstrevende en bijzondere bouw van appartementencomplex ‘Da Vinci’ verrast vervolgens met de afgesloten parkeerverdieping op de tweede etage. Als bewoner van ‘Da Vinci’ kun je hier je eigen parkeerplaats aankopen waardoor je elke dag opnieuw zorgeloos je auto op zijn ruime plek kwijt kunt. Deze parkeerplaats wordt separaat aangeboden voor € 10.000. Dat is al een heerlijke luxe en dan zijn we nog niet eens in de fraaie maisonnette zelf geweest…
Deze vinden we op de vijfde en zesde verdieping van het complex, dat zijn de derde en vierde woonlaag. Als bewoner heb je ruimte genoeg om bezoek te ontvangen maar het zal nooit onaangekondigd voor je deur staan en dat geeft rust. Iedereen meldt zich namelijk via de intercom waarvan de installatie in de ontvangsthal van je appartement is gesitueerd. Ook het moderne toilet vind je hier. Wanneer je doorloopt word je overweldigd door het prachtige, weidse uitzicht dat je vanuit de zeer luxe Nolte-woonkeuken direct omarmt. Terwijl je hier een maaltijd bereidt aan het grote kookeiland, nodigt de lichte ruimte uit om er onder het genot van een drankje lekker de dag nog eens de revue te laten passeren. Het hoeft overigens maar een beetje mooi weer te zijn en je geniet je maaltijd op het comfortabele, zonnige balkon waar je vanuit de uitstekend geoutilleerde keuken zo opstapt. Heerlijk, om vanaf die plek de ecologische groenstrook met grazende wilde runderen tot je uitzicht te mogen rekenen!
Met een vaste trap bereik je vervolgens de 6e verdieping waar de uiterst riante en lichte living uitnodigt tot veelvuldig, ontspannen gebruik. Op deze etage maakt een waar zonneterras de groene omgeving tot een wezenlijk onderdeel van dit appartement. Via de woonkamer bereik je ook de ruime master bedroom die aan de voorzijde is gesitueerd. Net als de rest van de woning zijn hier grote, hoge raampartijen die de lichte ruimte onderstrepen. Deze slaapkamer heeft daarnaast een op maat gemaakte vaste kastenwand met schuifdeuren die voorzien zijn van spiegels.
Op deze verdieping is overigens ook het tweede toilet gesitueerd.
De tussenhal op deze verdieping biedt toegang tot de royale, luxe badkamer met grote inloopdouche. Ook deze ruimte heeft grandeur, mede gezien het hoge afwerkingsniveau, het fraaie tegelwerk en de grote ramen.
Voor alle spullen die je niet direct onder handbereik hoeft te hebben, is er een bergruimte waar onder andere ook de aansluiting voor wasmachine en droger zijn geplaatst.
De tweede slaapkamer op deze etage is gesitueerd aan de achterzijde van het appartement en is eveneens enorm licht dankzij de grote pui met ramen van vloer tot plafond.
Het comfort dat samengaat met het wonen in deze zeer luxe woning gaat buitenshuis gewoon verder. Zo is er op loopafstand een nieuw complex met winkels waar je uitstekend terecht kunt voor je dagelijkse boodschappen. Het Openbaar Vervoer is goed geregeld in de directe omgeving van het ‘Da Vinci’-complex en de uitvalswegen bereik je via de ring binnen vijf minuten.
De servicekosten voor dit in 2009 gebouwde appartement bedragen € 152,00 per maand.

Description: Three volunteers are having trouble getting the door to open. Every building has a different security system.
On a Sunday in November 2013, student photographer Andrea Goh documented the Chicken Soupers as they prepared, packaged and delivered Jewish kosher meals to people with AIDS, chronic illness, disabilities, and those who are home-bound. Chicken Soupers, volunteers from congregations Beth Sholom and Sherith Israel, have been providing meals since the mid-1980s.
The Chicken Soupers series of photos is part of the "Through Our Eyes: Visual Stories of the Richmond Neighborhood" photography project.
