Allele Detail, Matrix Piece Expanded by Kim Forthofer

What was formerly simply a list of detailed technical terminology and notes was redesigned as a matrix listing high-level summary terms. These summary terms can be expanded to show the detailed technical terminology, as shown here. This allows the user to find their area of interest first, then drill down to the specific relevant terminology. This close-up shows the color-coded labels which tie sections of the page together.

Landing Page, New by Kim Forthofer

Solutions: Redesigned landing page for a data content category. Inviting image and clear title and tagline identify that the user is on the correct landing page. Links and data are grouped logically and allow the user to find desired material more quickly. News content can be update frequently without damaging page layout. Interactive tabbed sections at the bottom provide additional static content.

Problems: Page layout doesn't easily allow updates with additional material; uninviting and visually confusing; search tool appears overly complex; logo and color scheme look dated; previous design updates occurred in 2003.
