J'aime le Mont St. Michel! :) Here's a photo from the sunset yesterday here in Normandy. We had high hopes of going up into the castle to find some pizza. An advance party went up and explored all around but everything was closed, so we went back to the bus for some toasties and games.
My hot travel tip if you come here is to book one of the few hotels inside the castle-monastery and eat early.
We're now back on the bus and on the way to London - see you soon! Apologies to those that can't make the sold-out event, but I'll come back another time with a bigger venue! :)
Join me for an all-expenses paid trip here to New Zealand to take photos for a week and join my photo adventure workshop! Yes, flights and all. This contest is available all around the world and anyone can win. I'll give you three steps here and tell you how it works. And if you don't win that one, maybe you'll win a chance to come see Hans Zimmer in concert with me in the best seats in the house amidst 40,000 fans in Frankfurt, Germany's Commerzbank-Arena. Two great prizes there, both celebrating these 10 Photo Walks I'm doing across Europe in 10 great cities. Join me for these free events!
What do you do to enter?
First, if you think any of this sounds cool, tell your friends! We have more about the photo contest at 80stays.treyratcliff.com/
Second, on that site, you can see links to all the contests and more along the top! I said two great prizes… not quite accurate as there are actually more!
Third, and this is not a requirement, but a fun thing - if you’re in the area, RSVP to one of our free photo walks coming up in Europe. You’ll also see links to all 10 events at the site above.
Good luck, and I hope you win! You’ll be on a shiny new Air New Zealand bird, heading here to Queenstown for a week of some of the most insanely beautiful scenery in the world. I’ll show you all my secret spots and you’ll have a great time at our workshop… stay in a beautiful hotel, have great food and wine, take photo walks all through the southern alps, and meet my dog Blueberry (a real highlight hehe!). Anyway, I’m packing my bags now to come to Europe for 40 days for these photo walks (spending 4 days in each city as our bus of merry traveling artists weave our way from Lisbon to Barcelona to Milan to Paris to London to Amsterdam to Berlin to Vienna to Budapest, then jumping on a plane to end the tour in Moscow) - sound exhausting eh? Okay gonna take a nap now while my camera batteries charge.
See you all soon, and best of luck again on the contest. We thought it would be a fun way to get the whole world involved even if you can join me in Europe.

Right before we left Barcelona, we went to this beautiful mountaintop called "Tibidabo" where these amazing towers look over all of the city below. Next stop is Nice, then Eze, then Cinque Terre and ending up in Milano!
Big Contest here in Europe! 80stays.treyratcliff.com/flixbus (just now getting settled here into Portugal and exploring beautiful spots like this) - One of our great sponsors for these 10 free photo walks across Europe is FlixBus. You can win passes for you and a friend to 1,000 destinations to 20 European countries. To enter, post your favorite European photos on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or Google+ using the hashtag #InterFlixContest.
Here's another view of one of the five cities along the coast of Italy we visited in Cinque Terre. What a cool spot! I'd love to go back here and stay for a few days to really explore and hike the area more.
I'm giving away 10 free scholarships to students in Europe!
Directly after the 10 photo walks (which are free), there is an after-party learning event in each city which is ticketed. These are really fun events where I give a talk, share fun photo secrets, and do an extended Q&A that often gets very deep! I always like to save a few spots for students.
If you're interested, just leave a comment below about what city you'll be closest to and RSVP in the Facebook event! Check the list of cities at 80stays.treyratcliff.com/ to find one close to you.

Really looking forward to going back to New Zealand... the long long trek begins today from Germany > London > LA > Home!
Made it here to Monte Carlo with about an hour before sunset so we made a little hike to discover some new areas. We also found a great little pizza place... quattro fromaggio... always my go-to-pizza where I have a lot of guilt the next day. Oh well. This was a unique spot up here on top of this hill where the palace is. You can shoot down towards this harbour, but if the light is no good, you can walk about 5 minutes to the other side of the peak and see down towards the other harbour. I'll post that shot in a few days when I have a chance to process it! This was a vertirama (two photos, vertically), shot with the Hasselblad X1D then edited together in Aurora HDR.
This is inside Gaudi's masterpiece here in Barcelona, the Sagrada Familia. We spent a few hours inside here exploring and taking a ton of photos... I'm currently in a Mild Panic because when I imported my photos into Lightroom I have a 30-minute gap and I know I'm missing a ton of photos... can't figure it out! Over the past two days, the software in the Hasselblad has been a little buggy with telling me my card is full when it is not, slow writing, etc. So.... I'm about to go CSI Barcelona to try to find these missing photos. In the meantime, I'll post a few that I still have.
We're starting the photo walk soon right here by the Red Square in Moscow out front of The Ritz-Carlton. Here's a photo I recently took from the rooftop bar here. I've ALWAYS wanted to come to Russia... just been such a mysterious place to me, growing up in the 80's and stuff. All I know about Russia comes from Reddit, so I assume everyone here is as crazy as a bag of hammers and I'm really excited about that. Wait till you see some of the things I saw today... whoa I don't even know how to describe it. Anyway, we'll try to do a Facebook Live from the Red Square as we get going... not really sure what the laws are or anything. But the best thing about going to jail is you always get to make new friends.
A beautiful final night in Paris before we jump on the bus to drive to Normandy, Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery, and then getting on the ferry to England! :)

Okay, as you can tell, I went a little PHOTO CRAZY in Barcelona... I still have so many to process, but I thought this one was maybe one of my favorites. After a while taking photos in here, I got a little dizzy! I love shooting with this Hasselblad X1D, but I wish it had a flip-down screen. Getting in that strange position to look up through a camera on a tripod is always a bit tough on my neck!
Walking through the Red Square in Moscow... About to take the overnight train to St. Petersburg. Been very busy taking photos and not editing many, but here's a quick one made with Aurora HDR. If you want to see our Facebook Live from the Red Square during the photo walk, see: www.facebook.com/treyratcliff/videos/1413171478763271/
Hello Vienna - I can't wait for the photo walk in an hour or so! Also, don't forget we're about to choose the winners to join me for the upcoming Hans Zimmer concert. To enter (you can be anywhere around the world!), come to www.viewbug.com/contests/80-stays-around-the-world-photo-... - to find out more about his concerts, see www.hanszimmerlive.com/
This is a photo of the amazing city hall here in Vienna... I took this last night while I was scouting around for the photo walk - what a pretty city here!
Welcome to the biggest Volkswagen robot in the world! Wow, what a cool place. This is in Wolfsburg, Germany. There are countless floors in this cylindrical robot of fresh Volkswagens here waiting to be delivered to their new owners. Cars are always coming in and out of here on an average of every two days. A huge robot slides up and down the center picking up a car here, delivering a car there, all with perfect German precision. I actually drive a Volkswagen pickup truck in New Zealand (an Amarok) - yeah, who knew they made pickups? BTW, Volkswagen is not a sponsor or anything... just think this is a cool idea. I like it when companies do crazy stuff like this!

Here's a photo taken during the Milan photo walk a few evenings ago. This is a vertirama made from two different vertically stacked photos... I stitched them together in Lightroom then ran them through sweet Aurora HDR.
Here's the old town part of Geneva in the rain... I love shooting these European cities in the rain. This is an HDR made from two different photos. Always feel free to come grab my HDR Tutorials over at store.stuckincustoms.com to see more!
It's been a little cold in Paris these last few days, but it's never too cold to go out and take photos of the Eiffel Tower!
In each city, we're working to make three different videos. Here's +Olya Dendyaeva, our videographer, kneeling on the stairs of the beautiful art museum in Vienna, Austria. I took this photo while she was setting up to record another segment.

A swan on the Serpentine, beatifully lit by early evening light.
A break from architectural shots to bring you a photo from Trey Ratcliff London Photowalk on Saturday. I can't say I got many good shots from the two hour wander round Hyde Park but it was good to hear him talk philosophically about his art.

Looking forward to the big Amsterdam photo walk tonight! It's a little cool this morning, but I think it's going to warm up for the event. Feel free to bring your friends and family. All cameras are welcome, including mobile phones. We have great prizes, fun tips, and all kinds of surprises in store for you. After Amsterdam tonight we jump on our giant FlixBus bus to Berlin for tomorrow... back to back! For more information, go visit 80stays.treyratcliff.com/ -- see you soon!
Here's one of the charming little restaurants in Mont St Michel. The whole town has less than 50 people in it, so there's not a lot of choice better than this one!
Here's an unusual view of the Hotel Arts Barcelona. There is a small balcony up on the top floor of the spa where I went up at dusk. I was shooting in every direction, then decided to look over the edge at the huge fish and great sculptures all around the hotel. I like that the photo is quite confusing!
Happy to be back in Paris! Here for a few days making some videos, taking lots of photos, and plan on making some bad food decisions. The photo walk starts at 3 Quai Anatole France, 75007 Paris ... the election results don't come out till 8 PM, so we'll be well on our way by then! But no politics tonight... just photos, art, and fun!
Driving along the French coast in Normandy on the way to London... we came across this amazing old walled city called Saint Malo. What a pretty place... I want to come back here and spend more time!
Now headed over to the Lisbon Photo Walk - can't wait to meet you all. See you by the big party bus If you want to follow along, we'll probably do a little bit on Facebook Live as well. Even if you're not at any of these 10 photo walks, you can still register to win all kinds of great prizes like a week with me in New Zealand! To find out our tour schedule and more, go to 80stays.treyratcliff.com/
Here's Torre de Belem on another perfect night here in Lisbon. Believe it or not, my friend Rene Smith fell in the ocean right here! Yes, first he fell in a canal in Venice, and now into the drink here... that guy, I tell ya... somehow is camera survived this time!

And here was our next stop for the day... no way we could have gotten our party bus up into this little French medieval town of Eze, so we took an Uber from Nice. My dad showed me this town about a decade ago when we were here in France together... it was so memorable, that I wanted to come back. He actually showed it to me before I was into photography, so now it's like a whole new level! Next stop is Monte Carlo for dinner and more wine... hope to make it there by sunset!
I love Spain! What an amazing sunset we had here in Madrid on the way to Barcelona... We found this cute little park by accident and ended up staying here a few hours through the sunset.
Here's another view of artsy Rotterdam we found after eating a very strange meal atop the NHow hotel. They have a restaurant (not great food) with a great view but it's kind of kooky inside.
What a great photo walk in Barcelona, Spain last night! We ended here at Hotel Arts Barcelona (another great The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company property ) where we went up to the roof for my little art-talk and Q&A session. Thanks a lot everyone for coming out... great crowd and so many good questions!
Our tour bus is fueling up now for the long drive to Milan... where should we stop along the way? I was thinking about Cinque Terre, because I've never been there and it looks beautiful. - P.S. Check the @80stays Instagram for more fun shots... more behind-the-scenes, some favorite shots from other photo walkers, and more!
We decided to take the tour bus up to Porto, Portugal for the day and evening. What a beautiful and amazing city! I could seriously spend a whole week here! I took about 500 photos and had some great port with new friends down here by the river. And yes, I'm living in a bus down by the river. Next stop - Madrid - then coming in for the Barcelona photo walk!
I went out on the final night in London by myself for a wander. I love this Piccadilly Circus area because it's where all the theatre shows are and lots of interesting things to see. This one uses the Sony A7rii + Leica 21mm f/1.4.
Is this the coolest city hall ever? I think maybe so! This is in Vienna a few nights ago before we caught the train here to Budapest.
Photo Walk here in Milan tonight... and we're ending right here at the Duomo, where I took this photo this morning. This place never fails to impress! It's fun to come back and take more shots... I started doing of my veerrrryy first few HDRs back in this cathedral... Brings back some good memories! After the Milan photo walk is the Paris one. Looks like we'll be having that one on Election Night in France... Anyway, if you're coming out to the Milan one tonight, I'm looking forward to meeting you. We should be out at the bus pretty soon!
Check this out.. a fragrance tunnel! Found this in Wolfsburg before touring the Volkswagen delivery robot tower-thing (yeah sounds strange - see next photo I post!) Yeah but this little tunnel was amazing... about a thousand fresh flowers that slowly spin around you while you stroll through the middle. We spent the whole day here in Wolfsburg at the radical The Ritz-Carlton, Wolfsburg. There's a lot to see, especially if you're a car enthusiast, which everyone in Germany seems to be. I notice a lot of Germans just staring at cars and silently nodding, thinking deep thoughts about the engineering.
Soon to sadly leave this amazing country of Portugal on our bus to head to Spain! But first, a quick stop in Porto. After that? Where should we go before the Barcelona photo walk? Should we stop in Madrid or Valencia or Alhambra ?
Having a great time here in Budapest and excited about our photo walk tonight starting at +The Ritz-Carlton .. See you soon, and we'll be doing a Facebook Live from the pre-party and the actual event too.
This is the famous old elevator here in Lisbon, Portugal that we saw last night. It’s called the Santa Justa Lift and connects the low parts of Baixa with the much higher Carmo Square. I didn’t realize how hilly it is here… like a Portuguese San Francisco!
Hanging out at the pool in Amsterdam before we headed to Berlin for the next events. Thanks again everyone that came out to the Amsterdam and Berlin events - I hope you had a good time!
Just got to Geneva, Switzerland and on the way to Paris for the photo walk and stopped here for the night in front of Mont-Blanc in the Swiss Alps at the Hotel de la Paix Geneva. Here’s the view downward into the lobby… Escheresque! I wish we were here in Geneva long enough for a photo walk… but just a quick sleep then back on the bus. After Paris is London for the photo walk there - be sure to join us and see the tour schedule at 80stays.treyratcliff.com/
Here's the view from the top of our hotel ( The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Hotel Arts Barcelona ) here last night around sunset. Barcelona has amazing beaches that go on forever... I started jogging up and down and never even got close to the end.
Found an abandoned Cold War radio tower that's now turned into a real-life expansion of Fallout! Can anyone guess where it is? Wow you should have seen some of the characters that were wandering around this place. It stormed like a war and our only refuge was to find a way inside.
Wow Lisbon seemed like so long ago even though it was only a week! The day before the photo walk, we came over to this iconic location (
Belém Tower: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belém_Tower ) to get some photos at sunset.
