'39' is the only InterConnect Gemini operational at the moment, as '44' has disappeared off Bustimes. Here it is departing Lincoln bus station with a 56 to Skeg on 1.7.21

Along similar lines to the two Gainsborough vehicles, I also got a wave from the driver of this bus.

Although never designed to go together, Beachball livery on Wright Gemini bodywork actually goes together really nicely... unfortunately there's only this one (in the East Mids at least, were there others?) and the paint hasn't exactly stayed on the vehicle. The previous coat of InterConnect purple couldn't have been too good either since it's specks of Road Car green, red and yellow that are showing though!

Somehow its uniqueness as the only Beachball Gemini and uncared for look make this one of my favourites to see on the 56. For a batch of six buses ordered by Road Car but delivered to Stagecoach, to whom they are completely nonstandard, I think it's pretty remarkable that three have survived for their entire design lives doing the work they were originally built for back in 2006, working from Skegness depot on Road Car territory.

A fifteen year old Gemini in Beachball livery and operated by Stagecoach from new, working on the routes it was ordered for is something that theoretically shouldn't exist. The fact that there's one still doing just that despite the lack of care suggested by its appearance is what makes 16941 so great.

Details, quoting from Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum | Curtiss P-40E Warhawk (Kittyhawk IA):

Whether known as the Warhawk, Tomahawk, or Kittyhawk, the Curtiss P-40 proved to be a successful, versatile fighter during the first half of World War II. The shark-mouthed Tomahawks that Gen. Claire Chennault's "Flying Tigers" flew in China against the Japanese remain among the most popular airplanes of the war. P-40E pilot Lt. Boyd D. Wagner became the first American ace of World War II when he shot down six Japanese aircraft in the Philippines in mid-December 1941.

Curtiss-Wright built this airplane as Model 87-A3 and delivered it to Canada as a Kittyhawk I in 1941. It served until 1946 in No. 111 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force. U.S. Air Force personnel at Andrews Air Force Base restored it in 1975 to represent an aircraft of the 75th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Fighter Group, 14th Air Force.

The last loan which is uploadable is this. I did get a photo of one of the Lincoln E300s and one of the Interconnect MMCs but the quality isn't great and they're both blury.

What will Hull Fair 2021 offer? I reckon this year we would've got the ALX400s and presidents back for a bit, i also think we would've got some of Skegness' NK57 plate e400s. Maybe we would've even got some of Mansfield's pronto E400 MMCs, both the 2017 and 2019 ones?

Next year, then.

15808 sets off for Skegness on 27.2.21, seen here departing Lincoln bus station.

9.6.21

Well, look who's back for the second time in one day; it's my favourite Gainsborough Trident. I've never fully understood how buses are assigned to the 107s since sometimes the same bus will come back several times (like here) or sometimes it will be a different one. The 107 timetable doesn't make much sense either, as they just disappear in the middle of the day!

It is fairly common for buses to only have one of the headlights working correctly, since they seem to have them on all the time, but strangely the left headlight was working fine this morning and the right one wasn't and now they've swapped so the right one is and the left isn't... somehow.

Although I took this back on 23.2.21, as I upload this it's the 15th of March and exactly 15 years since the registration on this bus was issued.

My exploit to the top of the car park was cut rather short by the arrival of a Dennis Trident on the 100, which is usually the preserve of it dedicated batch of E400 MMCs. 18335 pulls in with the blind already set for the return trip.

Not having an ALX muscling in on the photo this time, here's 21214 on the 56, departing Lincoln bus station proper, for its run to Horncastle and Skegness. A Eclipse was commonly found on an evening 56 run back in in winter and early spring, that almost always ran in darkness, but the summer season appears to have seen that departure use deckers like all the others. Seeing this was a nice change!

13.7.21

Catching up to the last major loan-in's, now! And onto the second Scania on loan to Hull we go. Today, the actual park-and-riding begins down south in Silverstone for the practice sessions of the British Grand Prix, and already, I hear, our double deckers are making good mileage. Up here, meanwhile, I took the opportunity of the sun in the sky to head up to somewhere where I've always wanted to chase a bus - the terminus of the 2, right up to the northern borderline of the City of Kingston-upon-Hull. This is the last of three double deckers out on loan this week, and I hear that these will be here until Tuesday, at the very least. If you haven't got them yet - and why haven't you? - get them now while the sun's out!

The last double decker sent out on loan to Hull to cover for our 19-plate E400MMCs, Stagecoach in Worksop's 15175, a 2014 Scania N230UD ADL Enviro 400 new to Stagecoach Grimsby-Cleethorpes for their InterConnect services, now branded for the 'Aspire' 77 from Worksop to Chesterfield, is seen here at the most northerly point in the city of Hull at the northern terminus of the 2 to North Bransholme.

Grimsby decided to put one of these InterConnect Eclipses out on the InterConnect, so something was going right; wall-to-wall E300s quickly gets boring so it was nice to see one of these for once, even if I have seen this particular one before. As with a couple of Grimsby buses I've seen before, it comes with the bold STAY SAFE blind which is a nice touch. Aside from a couple of E400s and Gainsborough's MMCs this is the only purple liveried bus I've seen recently to actually have InterConnect branding.

27.3.21

I had a wander down in the direction of Lincoln depot on 15.7.21, where I saw a few buses returning and the roofs of two E400 MMCs from Hull for the F1 shuttle. Then I had a quick look at Bustimes to see if there was anything good out this late in the evening and, well, there was this, so I hot-footed it over to the bus station! [https://www.flickr.com/photos/190713720@N06] was there too, so we had a catch up while we waited for the Scania to leave.

Recently repainted into InterConnect purple and white is Scania 15654 - part of the same batch as Lincoln's 15651/3/6 - departing with a 56 to Horncastle and Skegness. It looks immaculate in its fresh coat of paint on what must be one of the first, if not the very first, run in service after repaint.

Unlike most of the other purple E400s which are unbranded, this does have a Stagecoach logo on the front and rear, plus all the fleet numbers except the rear one are in the conventional location for Beachball livery. As ever, they've held off with a full application of InterConnect branding, but it's nice to see the livery is alive and well. The reluctance to brand up the rest of the purple E400s might be because a revision to the branding is coming in the future, or perhaps it's something Stagecoach will get round to once more repaints into Local have been completed.

Oh, back to archives then. Let’s have a little look back at the Interconnect enviro 400s from my trip to Skegness.

Taken from my trip to Skegness back in early August is ex Newcastle enviro 400, 19207. These do look really nice but nothing beats the vykings!

The Terra Marique has delivered two transformers as part of the cross channel electricity interconnect link.

"The Terra Marique is unique. Its design has combined state-of-the-art technology with traditional marine and heavy transport engineering. The design has been developed to maximise the utilisation of UK and European ports, rivers and inland waterways.

There are a number of specific attributes that contribute to making the Terra Marique unique in the European shipping market:

Terra Marique's hydraulic roadway and ballast system will allow the vessel to offload on varying quay heights and riverbanks.

Terra Marique has a specially strengthened hull to allow the craft to beach land with minimal need for on site preparation, thus facilitating direct delivery to coastal and waterway sites.

Terra Marique's ability to semi-submerge will allow it to transport smaller vessels, including the Inland Navigator, thus facilitating access to the UK inland waterway network without transhipping from sea passage.

Terra Marique will be able to carry out tasks previously considered fraught with complications and expense - including the replacement of bridges over waterways.

Terra Marique can act as a mobile dry dock or ship lift for smaller vessels, including the Inland Navigator, when there is a need to carry out routine maintenance. " www.robertwynnandsons.co.uk/terra-marique.html

The main bus route in Mablethorpe is the long InterConnect service 59 which operates about every hour on Mondays-Saturdays between Louth, Mablethorpe and Skegness. A two-hourly service also operates between Mablethorpe and Skegness on Sundays between April and October.

Typical fare on the route are East Lancs Lolyne-bodied Volvo B7TLs that were new to Lincolnshire Road Car when it was part of the (Yorkshire) Traction Group. Several of these are painted into a two-tone purple "InterConnect" variation of Stagecoach livery and 16195 is one such example. It is seen in Mablethorpe turning from Victoria Road into High Street on its way to Louth. Victoria Road is the end of the A52 road, which finishes at this junction after commencing 147 miles away near Newcastle-under-Lyme and passing though Ashbourne, Derby, Nottingham, Grantham, Boston and Skegness.

The 100s are quite consistent with their 67 plate MMCs, although over the past few days some ALXs have crept onto it. I'm still searching for 10901 with its new front logo, but here on 20.5.21 it's 10899 passing by on Newland with a 100 to Scotter.

Deja Vu, here it is again!

The Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies® (BRAIN) Initiative continues to find new ways to visualize neurons interconnecting into the billions of circuits that control our thoughts, feelings, and movements. This video, another winner in the initiative’s “Show Us Your Brain!” contest, offers an example of how these imaging techniques are getting better all the time.

The video features a millimeter-thick block of fixed tissue from a part of the mouse brain that’s known for its role in controlling voluntary movement. It’s called the globus pallidus externa (GPE). The video takes us inside the 3D landscape of the GPE, zooming in on the many neural cell bodies (yellow) and their arm-like extensions (red) that receive or transmit information. There’s also another class of neural cells called interneurons (blue) that act only within the circuit.

The video comes from the lab of Kwanghun Chung, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, in collaboration with Byungkook Lim’s group at the University of California, San Diego, and showcases a technique called SHIELD [1]. Brain tissue is extremely delicate to work with and prone to damage. SHIELD, developed in the Chung lab, offers a new way around this longstanding problem.

In reference to the previous photo of the Grimsby Eclipse with damaged rear panels, here's Lincoln's Enviro 200 36452 having been substituted onto the 53 in its place. An unusual case where Lincoln vehicles were working all of Lincoln's boards on the 53, and Grimsby's board too. Plus a non-MMC E200 on the 53 is fairly uncommon.

It sets off from Lincoln bus station on 26.10.23, seen waiting for the lights to change so it can head off up Melville Street. I don't know what the little green sticker on the mirror is all about.

Rather unusually, the 53 had two of Lincoln's Enviro 200 MMCs on it today. In amongst the other stuff going on I kind of forgot about them, but I was in a good place to photograph one of them as it arrived into the bus station after its lengthy run from Grimsby.

Norman Street, Lincoln, 1.4.23

Speaking of E400 MMCs, why not go straight from one interesting comparison of double deckers to another, with the three generations of pre-Enviro, 'classic' Enviro and MMC Enviro all together. Shame it's not an ALX400 in the middle for the Alexander trilogy. The Plaxton President probably has more in common with the E400 than the MMC does, seeing as it's an early model E400 with nigh on the same Trident 2 chassis as the President. Later Enviro 400s had the E40D chassis, which the MMC is an evolution of.

19296 and 18055 are both based out of Lincoln depot, while 10901 is a Gainsborough vehicle, just dropping by with an InterConnect 100.

... and then the rain came down. I stuffed my big camera in my bag and relied on the Lumix compact for any further photos in the wet. Brylaine YK57 FHM came along and, having already seen it on its way in, decided it was a good test subject to make sure the settings were right for the quickly changing lighting conditions, as the dark clouds rolled over. It sets out over Pelham Bridge for Boston with an IC5 on 29.4.21

To launch the new contactless payment in Mansfield a public event took place to chat all about it and a game to win prizes, but what came surprised me, it turned out to be a Lincolnshire based Interconnect branded bus. I not sure if this is the last in that livery but with the Pronto getting E400 MMC's too, but you have to wait until they out to see the photos.
