White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae)

Happy Wing Wednesday!

#24 - 100 x challenge - Lensbaby

Looking close on Friday - Fruit (over processed)

I am back in my comfort zone with a high key image. I can't tell you how it messes with my head to post things that aren't really 'me' but sometimes we have to get out of our comfort zone and try something different...if only to confirm it's just not what we like. I may have to have a bit of a clean up of my photostream.

A single raspberry (oh joy) on my spoon that was made in Laos from aluminium salvaged from deactivated unexploded bombs dropped on their province during the secret war which took place between 1964 and 1973.

A percentage of the money from the sale of these spoons goes to a charity to help young disadvantaged Laotians further their education.

Apologies, I usually try not to post more than one image a day.

White-faced Heron (Egretta novaehollandiae)

This heron stood motionless on the fence rail for some time.

Bugs was so intent on what he was interested in, it was easy for me to get in close to get this shot. His focus did not waver an iota.

Tulips in my garden - it is interesting (to me at least) that you can use a 400mm focal length for this type of shot.

Intense rains this fall are producing a bumper crop of fungi of varied species at the Delaware shore. This one is still glistening from the rain, as are its mossy surroundings. 17 shots were taken with Helicon FB and processed with Helicon software.

Came across this bouquet recently in Charlevoix, Michigan. The color was so intense that I felt B&W was the only answer. In the past I have felt that to present a flower in B&W was a crime. Now I understand.

Intense look

Varanasi (India) - This old man regularly comes for treatment from the Action Bénarès medical team, which operates several times a week in the slum of La Kharbuza. He has a bad knee injury. During the month I followed the caregiver in their medical mission, I saw him regularly. I've never seen him talk to anyone. He let himself be photographed without problem and without saying anything. I had developed an affection for this apparently lonely man. Intrigued by his silence, at the end of the report, I learned that the man was mute.

A Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) was scanning surroundings intensely for any fish movements. The concentration was looking awesome against such gorgeous purple backdrop bokeh. The wetland was covered in that part by brown algae and some water hyacinths. They were beautifully rendered here. The posture of the bird, the lighting and the complementing backdrop made a delightful composition. Pics was taken from Purbasthali, West Bengal, India.

“Carmel undoubtedly offers a hard but healthy regime, and time and time again we see those who have embraced it finding contentment and a sense of meaning such as they never knew before…

One of my "Simple Pleasures" is buying flowers that I can't grow myself, or are out of season. This also spills over into a Guilty Pleasure when I spend rather more than I should on them!

This bunch of egg-yolk yellow irises gave me so much pleasure, and so many photo moments too ... I'm not sure I feel too guilty about them ;o)

An old shot I've just got round to processing - (I'm very slow)

This week is the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London so this one seemed appropriate - I've posted a wider shot of this evening before with the old wooden posts in the foreground.

Here I'd zoomed in to 55mm to get more detail in Tower Bridge & the City but had to create a pano to include the Shard & Tower 42.

I particularly liked the burning red reflections in the windows of the Thames Clipper & Tower 42 in this one.

One of those grey overcast days where I wasn't expecting any colour but the Sun broke under the cloud right at the end.

The sky colour was so intense that the raw file was too saturated to need any increase.

The Great Fire of London was started in Pudding Lane by the Royal Baker (inadvertently) in 1666 - so they say.

Luckily very few people were thought to have been hurt & the fire succeeded in sterilising most of the run down slum filled bits of London that had been ravaged by the Great Plague.

For some reason Great Fires, Puddings & Bakers brought 'The Great British Bake Off' to mind.

If you're a fan of the show like my wife - (although I suspect the real reason she watches it is to see the steely eyed scouser - Paul Hollywood) - & you're a serious baker - be sure to turn off the oven before going to bed :))
