Never one to merely blend in, the Azure Kingfisher is dressed to impress. We came upon this bird fishing on the edge of the Daintree river, and approaching slowly by boat, it let us incredibly close.
It was so dark in the riverside understory I was shooting at ridiculous shutter speeds between 1/30th-1/80th sec HH at 860mm (EFL). This is the best shot I've ever managed of this tiny, colorful critter. What a stunner. I love kingfishers!

Typical summer thunderstorm with some nice lightning southeast of Springfield, IL. Thirty second shutter got 3 bolts in one frame.

While driving out of the Kaeng Krachan National Park I encountered a troupe of stump-tailed macaques alongside of the road. I quickly exited the vehicle and took this picture of the alpha male. Before I could reduce my focal length he had quickly slipped into the jungle.
Wikipedia: The stump-tailed macaque (Macaca arctoides), also called the bear macaque, is a species of macaque native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. In India, it occurs south of the Brahmaputra River, in the northeastern part of the country.
This Old World monkey travels quadrupedally, usually on the ground, as it is not very agile in trees. It is generally found in evergreen tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, at different elevations depending on the amount of rainfall in the area.

Wedge-tailed Eagle (Aquila audax) immature
One from early this day in 2018 as we headed to Glenmore and the Lerderderg State Park.
One of my all time favourite Wedge-tailed Eagle images.

Many thanks for your kind visit and your great support 🙏
Sorry that I cannot be very present actually. I think, this will continue during the next few weeks, but from time to time I will try to catch up. So I wish you all a happy weekend and a lovely spring time. We have fantastic weather here, looks like summer, hope you too ☀️⛱🍹😘

Collared Sparrowhawk (Accipiter cirrocephalus)
From a visit to the Heathdale - Glen Orden Wetlands five years ago.
… I think I may have captured his undivided attention for a few seconds :-) After that short lapse, he filed me in the no threat category – a perfectly reasonable judgement – and apparently stopped paying attention.
I left for a few minutes. When I came back, the same individual was still maintaining his vigil on top of the same bush. Although I was staring with my camera from a different location, closer to him than the first time around, he just cast a passing glance in my direction without a care in the world.
It may well be that the little bugger had recognised me, whereas I would have been incapable of recognising him had he not stood in the exact same location :-)
Parents today have more struggles than in any other time, I'm convinced.

Cooper's Hawk. This hawk hunts around our neighborhood. He chased a pigeon into one of our windows, killing it instantly. He was not leaving without that pigeon, so he let me get unusually close to take some pictures.
A fish frolics in the pond, oblivious to the Snowy Egret gliding along the waters surface right above him, whom with the precistion and dexterity of a prima ballerina, is about to snatch him up for it's next meal.
This shot was taken from our trip to the DR last December and my favourite image from the week we spent there. Thanks for viewing and have a great weekend!!

Black Kite (Milvus migrans) female
Seen near the entrance to the Werribee River Park at Werribee South on this day two years ago. She had a nest on another branch of this dead tree that she was keeping a very close watch over.
Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
“Pure as we begin.
Pure as we come in.
Pure as we begin.
Ruled by will alone.
Pure as we begin.
Here we have a stone.
Gather, place, erase so.
Shelter turns to home.
Pure as we begin.
Here we have a stone.
Throw to stay the stranger.
Swore to crush his bones.
Ruled by will alone.
Spark becomes a flame.
Flame becomes a fire.
Light the way or warm this.
Home we occupy. .....”.
