Every year at ICU, there is a school festival that takes place over the weekend. A group had asked a bunch of study abroad students to walk around the campus in a kimono for fun. I went and was dressed by 4-5 ladies, and had to wear towels around my waist since I was too curvy and it would distort the shape of the kimono. It was extremely uncomfortable but I looked pretty!

Integrating GIS and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis for Bank Branches Site Selection: A Case Study for TD Canada Trust

Supervisor: Dr. Evan Cleave

Theme: Retail

Location: Toronto

Site selection is very crucial in determining the success of a business. The retail marketing team needs to strategize the site according to customer habits and needs, in order to maximize revenue. There are numerous aspects involved in the process of decision making when it comes to site selection, it becomes complicated. Hence, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) method developed by Saaty (1980) is used for site selection problems.

The biggest challenge when it comes to decision-making processes is finding optimal locations for opening new branches for a bank. Site selection is critical in the banking industry as they need to maximize their profitability as well as increase their market share. Therefore, this research will focus on finding three optimal locations for opening new TD Canada Trust branches in the city of Toronto. GIS and AHP will be used to help determine the three locations suitable for opening the new branches.

The Port Authority Building (Dutch: Havenhuis), or the Port House, is a government building located in Antwerp, Belgium, built between 2009 and 2016. It is located near the area of Eilandje, in the Port of Antwerp, and acts as the new headquarters of the Antwerp Port Authority, housing various departments. Designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, the building opened in 2016, the year of her death. It is the sole government building designed by Hadid. The design of the building incorporates the use of a fire station, integrating it into the building. Attached above and connected to the fire station is a contemporary diamond-shaped structure marked by straight edges, with an additional column providing support from the floor.

The building houses approximately 500 employees, and acts as a meeting place for international contacts of the Antwerp port community. According to the Antwerp Port Authority, the building is meant to "symbolise the dynamic, reliable, ambitious and innovative nature" of the Port of Antwerp

The expansion of the building is located directly above the renovated fire station. It has a glass-covered facade to "reflect the complex interaction of shades and colours in the air", a reference to the building's location surrounded by water. The volume measures over 100 meters in length. The expansion resembles the hull of a sailing ship, with a protruding bowspirit and the surface of the facets of a diamond facing the Kattendijk dock. This is also a reference to Antwerp's association with the diamond industry.

The exterior of the "diamond" consists of transparent and opaque triangular facets. This allowed the architects to control the amount of sunlight entering the building. The placement of the facets mimicks the nearby River Scheldt. Project manager Joris Pauwels stated that concrete pillars and 900 tonnes of steel hold the glass workspace above the former fire station. A bridge level joins the two structures and gives employees a 360-degree view of the public square and the Scheldt below.

The design of the building took energy efficiency into account, reaching a 'Very Good' BREEAM environmental rating. A borehole energy system pumps water to a depth of 80 meters below grade in over 100 locations around the building to provide heating and cooling. The company Cegelec was in charge of installing and unifying the energy networks of the two buildings, with the insertion of plastic pipes to achieve an energy storage volume of 12 cubic metres.

The restored and preserved fire truck hall contains a public reading room and a library. The whole building has a total floorplan of 12,800 square metres, with 6,600 square metres in the refurbished fire station and a further 6,200 square metres in the extension.

can't wait to integrate some jellyfish into these

They say that integration is the period between which the first black family moves in and the last white family moves out.

It's been many, many years since the last white family moved out of this neighborhood. But they left their churches, which were promptly repurposed and renamed. Are they as much a part of the communities they're in as they were when they were white? That's debatable, especially considering the carnage in minority neighborhoods over this past Memorial Day weekend.

Of course, churches and other south and west side Chicago institutions are in damage control mode. Emergency meetings all over the place. But the people they're having the meetings about aren't going to church. They're not attending politicians' Town Hall meetings. They're out running the streets, stealing, dealing drugs, vandalizing and killing. And their parents, wives, girlfriends and other relatives cover for them left, right, and center. Prison is nothing but a bump in the road. They're in, they're back out. And so many of them aren't qualified for the jobs that do exist; they're functionally illiterate, and it isn't that the schools didn't try to teach them.

One new tool: a law in the works that would make it easier for Cook County States' Attorney Anita Alvarez to prosecute gang leaders under the RICO statute. Cut the Chimera's heads off, so to speak. Let's try it; we've tried reasoning with them, and that hasn't worked one bit.

Postmarked August 31, 1973. Seems like the writer was against school integration. Message (as best as I can read it):

Thurs. [August 30, 1973]

THE DAY in which the plaintifs [sic] fill objections AGAIN to achieve TRUE integration!! NOT EDUCATION. All of us are tense -- may know the possible drift by Sept 3 -- We know the Court will NEVER allow us to have just 20% black pupils. Court decreeded [?] 46% black teachers [?] -- 54% White 5 years ago in Feb. so again the tempest boils - 95° too. We are off Labor Day.

#Testimonial: Automotive Integration has been impressed with the build quality and ease of install of the #Codesafe System. We love the OEM finish #keypad, which is compact enough to mount wherever the customer desires. The codes are easy to change and the master code we keep makes it easy to reset the customer’s system if required. We would recommend CodeSafe to anyone looking to install an #immobilizer system in their #vehicle.
