The weather was perfect for a day out on the water, observing the feathered affiliates of the Salish Sea biotic community. Participants were treated to the appearances of gulls, turkey vultures, one harlequin duck, some black turnstones, several loons, and more. Additionally, a discussion with the group on the topic of the Salish Sea brought a broader understanding of this concept.
Knowing what the Salish Sea is is only the beginning. Knowing why it's important is the next step. By thinking on this scale, we can understand the ecological, economic, and social intricacies of this bioregion. Readers and viewers are encouraged to investigate the SeaDoc Society's web page on the topic as well as the Salish Sea School's efforts and educational programs.
