A 4 Minute Long Exposure taken at sunrise from the Seine River overlooking some tower.

.

On the 6th day of my trip to Norway the sky was partly cloudy, but it was completely calm. On the way to the Briksdalsbreen, a tourist highlight, I was in a hurry and so I gave the insignificant lake on the roadside initially no meaning. On the rearview mirror I saw a pointed, symmetrical mountain, which was also perfectly mirrored. "Oh, how beautiful," I thought to myself and drove on. I can not stop and take pictures all the time ...

But a few miles further I've changed my mind then, turned and drove back to the lake. A good decision :-)

"Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people."

Carl Sagan

There are certainly countless motifs that can be used to symbolize the new beginning of a year. A sunrise outside in nature (in this case on the Hoher Schneeberg in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains) is my favorite.

In both cases we are on a path that leads us into a new phase of life. A path that is only known to us to a certain extent and where a big surprise (or challenge) can be waiting for us around the next bend.

Now you could object that a day is just a day and in comparison a year must be much more significant. I would like to show you why I don't quite see it that way.

On the one hand, this assessment is based on our standards, which are based on a human life. If we look at it from the perspective of the lifespan of the universe, a year is just as insignificant as a day (basically the effects of neither are noticeable).

On the other hand, a single day, a single decision is enough to fundamentally change our own world in every conceivable direction.

So what if we didn't wait for a specific date every year to realize where we want to go, but could use every single day of the year to do so?

Our creative possibilities would increase many times over and we would have so much more room for directional corrections. We could learn, try things out and gain experience without having to ask the fundamental question every time.

With this in mind, I wish you all a good start and an exciting and fulfilling journey.

Because today is the first day of the rest of all of our lives.

Food for thought :

The bee is fast becoming an endangered species in many parts of the world. In France, the newly arrived Asian hornet is just another nail in the coffin. Without the bee, we too could well become an endangered species! :-(( - Love thy neighbour and thy bee however small and insignificant it may appear to be.

This was my first experience on a ship out to sea and I was struck with amazement at the vastness of the water, the sky, the enormity of everything and how small and insignificant I was in it all.

Photography on the water, for me became a different and interesting sensation as well, being rocked from side to side, trying to keep the horizon and focus, composition, while moving forward or in this case backward. I have a short attention span anyway :) and saw so many things at once through the lens.

For a long time, we've considered nature an ideal prescription for the arrogant, self-centered, or egomaniac human. When we encountered - face to face - this enormous African Elephant (Loxodonta africana), we thought he could provide valuable perspective to such a human. Towering over our boat, 10-13 ft (3.2–4 m) tall at the shoulder and weighing 10,000 - 13,000 lb (4,700–6,000 kg), he quickly established to us just how small and insignificant we are. Also unlike humans, he went about his feeding barely even looking at us. A gentle giant, in this moment anyway.

"Take a breath and count the stars."

To this day, I have never felt more insignificant than that night at Parker Ridge in Jasper National Park.

The title is taken from a very famous science fiction novel by Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle. To me, it refers to a small, but, less than insignificant speck that stands out in the vastness of space. That's what struck me about this image as I snapped the shutter.

No, life is not always a walk in the park. (No one wrote it on the package insert).

There are times when the challenges come at you like a hailstorm, so that you no longer know which one to start with and you have no idea how to overcome it all. But even then, keep your head held high!

Sometimes you invite people into your life who will do everything they can to make you feel small and insignificant just so they can feel big and important. And the situation requires you to deal with them. But even then, please keep your head held high!

Or you are standing at a fork in the road in your life and have no idea where your journey will ultimately take you, which brings a cold sweat of fear to your forehead. But even at this point, keep your head held high!

Why is this so important? For two reasons.

On the one hand, this is the only way you can see the path that lies ahead of you. And this is the only way you can keep an eye on your goal and focus your attention on it. This focus will guide you and reduce the risk of straying from your path. Because there will be many influences (people, experiences or your own thoughts) that will try to do this.

And on the other hand, when you stand in front of the mirror, you can only look into the eyes of the wonderful person that you are with your head held high, encourage yourself and feel proud of what you have achieved. This will give you strength to take the next step and then the next and the next.

And always, even if it is sometimes difficult, with your head held high. You are worth it.

* Diving through the dark

While the night turns blue

And you wear your intentions

As I wear my intentions

So clear

I don't want

Feel so different

But I don't want

To be insignificant

And I don't how to see

The same things different now

(excerpts from Insignificant lyrics - Counting Crows)....

...a reflection of me today......

“To hear never-heard sounds,

To see never-seen colors and shapes,

To try to understand the imperceptible

Power pervading the world;

To fly and find pure ethereal substances

That are not of matter

But of that invisible soul pervading reality.

To hear another soul and to whisper to another soul;

To be a lantern in the darkness

Or an umbrella in a stormy day;

To feel much more than know.

To be the eyes of an eagle, slope of a mountain;

To be a wave understanding the influence of the moon;

To be a tree and read the memory of the leaves;

To be an insignificant pedestrian on the streets

Of crazy cities watching, watching, and watching.

To be a smile on the face of a woman

And shine in her memory

As a moment saved without planning.”

― Dejan Stojanovic

The Sunlight coming straight from the opposite direction while taking a picture, is a challenge ; and a mystical experience under the Winter conditions of this particular picture, in this particular spot….

Cause I was all alone, under weather conditions that normally frighten me, but under visual conditions that amaze me!...In a magical place that I cherish with all my heart ! Where I had already slided and fallen down twice, with no physical or…camera harm…Where I was listening my steps clearly while walking on the frozen snow, but having my eyes and my heart wide open, upwards onto the clear blue-blue sky, and to the unique White Beauty that surrounded me, glittering under the brilliant Winter sun!!!

This is a part of my “Château secret path”. I have seen it , experienced it a lot of times, in all Seasons…And each time there is something new, something very special that happens out there, that makes my heart sing….I feel so grateful to the Universe, where I happen to exist as an insignificant grain of living sand !!!!

**** My dearest friends!! Just BE HAPPY!! FEEL HAPPY with all your hearts!!! Cherish all the moments of the changing Year filled with HOPE, and with the pure heart of a joyful child!!! Either you are all alone, or surrounded by strangers, or by loved ones!!!! I will "see" you again in the NEW YEAR!!

( ****This very special photo is taken in the Winter of 2010 , while I was walking all alone in the Château de La Hulpe.!! A very sad year for my family life!! I admire how Mother Nature always inspires me and uplifts me where there is ONLY BEAUTY inside-out!! My feelings and my thoughts have NEVER changed!! This photo expresses me 100%!!!)

An old shot taken with my first DSLR.

When hiking from Wattwiller in Alsace to the Hartmannswillerkopf (Viel Armand), after passing the Hirtzenstein, you increasingly come across bunkers, trenches, barbed-wire entanglements, and shelters dating back to World War I. At the start of the war, terrible battles took place on the mountain, claiming the lives of nearly 30,000 soldiers. At the time, the mountain earned the nickname “the Man-Eater Mountain.” In hindsight, it is no longer clear why such great strategic importance was attributed to this mountain; the brutal trench warfare thus revolved around a peak in the Southern Vosges that was relatively insignificant. But one can say that the entire war was actually senseless, into which the great European powers had mindlessly stumbled.

Feeling small and insignificant in the vastness.

In my garden, this is the only plant I do not know the name of!

I bought it on the market, years ago, it had a lovely photo of how it would become, no name though... shows again how deceptive photos can be, LOL!

Anyway, it is not very big, very hardy, with insignificant small leaves, in late Spring... it grows insignificant little white flowers, mostly hidden under the leaves, in Summer it is ... just there?

Then comes Autumn, and the leaves turn on all the colours of the rainbow, for a few short weeks it becomes an ABSOLUTE focal point of attraction in the garden... pure GLORY... then it's gone again... till next year!

I thought I'd share this with you, bringing in a branch, in the studio I can really show you the glory.

THANK you for ALL your comments and visits, so appreciated.

Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)

Mood; I WILL SURVIVE - Benedetta Caretta feat. Petar Markoski

And on the path of self-acceptance,

These twelve illusions you shall shed:

The illusion of being unwanted:

For, in truth, there is no such thing as an unwanted soul.

The illusion of being unlovable:

For your true self is love.

The illusion of unworthiness:

For you are always deserving of love and success.

The illusion of being weird:

For there is no such thing as normal.

The illusion of needing external validation:

For your worth is never dependent on another's approval.

The illusion of being insignificant:

For your presence impacts all of humanity.

The illusion of being powerless:

For within you lies the strength to shape your destiny and influence the world.

The illusion of not being good enough:

For you were born good enough.

The illusion of being a burden:

For your existence is a precious gift, and your contributions add value.

The illusion of being unsuccessful:

For success is subjective, and your path is uniquely yours.

The illusion of being ugly:

Because that label only ever reflects the viewer being incapable of seeing beauty.

And the illusion that aging decreases your value:

For, in truth, you are not a body but a soul.

everyone shoots the grand reflections. the vast, mirror-like pools of water around the ciudad de las artes y las ciencias. but this was just a puddle. insignificant, stepped over, ignored. and yet, it did what the great pools couldn’t. it pulled the child’s silhouette into the frame, bending the sky, twisting the perspective. two worlds, one above, one below. connected by a puddle.

thank you.

From the outside, Albi Cathedral is unlike any other. The largest brick church in the world is at first glance rather ungraceful and looks more like a castle than the house of God.

The choice of brick is not insignificant: this material recalls the color of flesh, which goes against Cathar beliefs for which Jesus, the son of God, was only a pure spirit and had no never took the form of a man. The use of brick therefore made it possible to reaffirm Catholic dogma.

As for this raw and austere form of fortress, it establishes the Catholic faith in a land marked by heresy while showing that it is possible to be Catholic while being poor at a time when Catharism reproached the Church with to be rich, powerful and too close to power.

The city of Albi was part of the county of Toulouse which had been forcibly attached to the crown of France and gave the Albigenses the impression of being absorbed by Paris. With the construction of the cathedral, we wanted to stand out from the cathedrals of northern France by asserting its regionalism, its language and its culture.

It was in 1277 that the project was born. It will take five years to gather the funds and the trades necessary for the construction of the cathedral. The first stone was laid on August 15, 1282; the structural work will be completed a century later in 1383. This rapid construction made it possible to raise a building with a single architectural style. The bell tower and the entrance porch will be built later and completed in the 15th century.

Bridge a waiting time with an insignificant, meaningless activity.

Everything i shoot lately feels so insignificant and lame.

so im dragging out another colorado shot...

maybe i need another vacation?? lol

My wife and I visited the Death Valley National Park in October 2021. The park is home to the lowest point in North America, the Badwater Basin which sits at 282 ft below sea level. We got to the basin about 30 minutes before sunrise and had the entire basin just for us for an hour before other visitors started showing up. The incredible serenity of this place was a unique experience. We felt so insignificant, so small, in the middle of the vast flat landscape.

According to National Park Service, Badwater Basin was once the site of the large ancient inland Lake Manly. The lake had no outlet, leading to the accumulation of sediment and salt over time. When the lake eventually evaporated, concentrated salt deposits were left behind. Today, salt polygons form on the flats as groundwater rises up through these deposits and evaporates.

Nákladní vlak společnosti FCAB číslo 1212, míří z dolu Spence do přístavu Mejillones.

FCAB freight train number 1212, heading from the Spence mine to the port of Mejillones. The train led by 3204 and 3206 is intercepted on the northern branch of Prat - Pampa, where the railway line in the desert is formed by numerous arches and mountain passes headed by the peak of Cumbre. It is possible to catch a long train even in curves or loops so that a pusher is visible at the end of the train, in this case it is locomotive 3208. Loaded trains from the Spence mine are led by a pair of locomotives, assisted by a separate machine on the pusher. On the other hand, empty sets from the port of Mejillones are now only driven by a pair of locomotives of the same series.

This train is the longest train on the FCAB network and can reach 700 to 800 meters in length. The containers are loaded with mined minerals and locomotives of the 32xx series - type GT42AC with a power of 3200 hp are used to transport this heavy cargo. The Series 32xx locomotives are from Progress Rail Services Corporation, owned by Caterpillar. The locomotives have the manufacturer's designation EMD GT 42AC and are nicknamed "Progress" in Chile after the company that produced them. These are the young locomotives 3204 and 3206 manufactured in 2018 and the slightly older machine 3208. In total, FCAB has 14 of these locomotives in its fleet. The locomotives have a 12-cylinder engine with the designation 12-710, the locomotive is 20.3 meters long, its maximum speed is 100 km/h, and it holds 5000 liters of fuel, its weight is 120 tons, the traction power of the locomotive is stated to be 3,207 kW.

The Spence mine is located near the town of Sierra Gorda south of Calama at an altitude of 1,750 meters above sea level. It is an open pit mine where copper cathodes have been mined only since 2007 (mine construction began in 1996). Cathodes are obtained by a bacterial process of leaching and extraction in solvents, mainly sulfuric acid, which is also transported here on trains. The concentrate is transported wet in wagons and is compacted during the journey, which prevents it from exploding. Up to 52 tons of cargo can be loaded on one car. The mine processes 95,000 to 100,000 tons of concentrates daily. The annual volume of copper mining is approximately 835 thousand tons, the mining of molybdenum is also not insignificant, of which 7.5 thousand tons are mined here. The majority of raw materials are taken to China, the United States of America and Italy.

An existential moment is loosely defined as the moment when you become aware of your existence, or how insignificant you are in the big scheme of things. My moment came on a multi day hiking trip in the wilderness of Northern California. But this moment can occur anywhere and at anytime--sometimes when things look the bleakest. I wonder if you can have more than one moment in your life?

A tiny roadside wildflower that looks insignificant, but when looking more closely it's a very beautiful little flower.

Start Point Lighthouse, Devon. So significant in human terms so insignificant in the Galactic.

"The locust trees were in bloom and the fragrance of the blossoms filled the air. Cardiff Hill, beyond the village and above it, was green with vegetation, and it lay just far enough away to seem a Delectable Land, dreamy, reposeful

and inviting.

Tom Sawyer appeared ... with a bucket of whitewash and a long- handled brush. He surveyed the fence, and all gladness left him and a deep melancholy settled down upon his spirit......

Aunt Polly was determined to punish him by turning

his Saturday into captivity at hard labor, whitewashing a fence. .... Sighing, he dipped his brush and passed it along the topmost plank; repeated the operation; did it again; compared the insignificant whitewashed streak with the far-reaching continent of the unwhitewashed fence, and sat down discouraged."

Mark Twain

When I approached this man painting this infinite fence my intent was to make a picture where everything has a meaning. Where no one thing is the center of attention and all things are dependent upon each other to complete the narrative.

It took me a while to structure this shot getting that hill in the middle ground just above the fence line, that distant fence, the tree, and foreground all nicely tucked together.

There was an air of strangeness and beauty hovering above it all. I decided to leave the center empty and allow the viewer to read around the scene.

Is he in the act of painting? - or looking at the coyote out on the fallow field?

Tiny But Full of Life is my representation of the feeling of being insignificant but, no matter what, you are full of life so, make it shine. The glow particles represent that you are alive and glowing.

My Monday floral greeting is not only quite late today, but also very understated. After all, it doesn't always have to be glitz and glamour.

This white calla lily, in my opinion, does very well without all that and is still a feast for the eyes.

And with that, I wish you this week an appreciation for the beauty in simplicity. And with that, an appreciation for the simple and rather insignificant things in everyday life.

Despite its exposed position on the brink of the North Sea, the Moot Hall in Aldeburgh is one of the best preserved Tudor public buildings in Britain. Although no document exists that chronicles its beginning, experts have estimated a date of around 1550 as, during this time, Aldeburgh had emerged from being an insignificant fishing village into a prosperous ship-building and trading town.

the pavement is a grid. a map of light and stone. shadows cut across it, long and sharp. geometry of absence. a figure walks in the upper left corner. small, almost insignificant. her shadow stretches before her, a dark arrow pointing the way. she follows it, across the illuminated squares.

As I stand, take steps, hold my camera in my hands, see the sunset light and the road or yard in front of me, press and release the shutter, hear the click of the shutter opening, be mindful that the camera’s sensor is recording the light shining into it, hear the shutter close, feel surprised and inspired by the beautiful images that are captured and shown on the back of my camera and remember that though it seems insignificant this truly is a big victory for me to be moving forward. This all has a deep, helpful, nourishing, inspiring effect on me. It doesn’t magically erase the extreme difficulties and struggles and it does help me survive and move through them in a healthy way.

Moving Forward is a collection of abstract, ICM (intentional camera movement) images taken in moments of desperation, while trying to survive and find a healthy way to cope with the intense effects of trauma, CPTSD, anxiety and depression. The practice of therapeutic photography and healing actions of taking steps and moving forward come together in this photo project. May it be a source of hope, inspiration, peace or encouragement for you.

Lighthouse "Gellen", Island of Hiddensee, Baltic Sea / Germany

Hiddensee is a relatively small island of approximately 17 km length (10.5 miles) and 250 metres (270 yd) wide but is 'equipped' with two lighthouses, out of which only one is a real 'lighthouse' and this one - on the photograph - is a 'beacon' (new word I just learned; in German = "Leuchtfeuer" which literally translated to English means "shining fire"). It was built in 1904.

I wondered if there is a difference between a lighthouse and a beacon, as both show the way for navigation. When I started to explore, I learned that the term "beacon" (German: Leuchtfeuer) is the generic term for lighthouses, lightships, tall buoys, pier lights, leading lights, cross lights etc., used for safe navigation. In other words: a lighthouse is the most famous and representative beacon :-).

Despite its rather insignificant size, the island has a varied history. First it was populated by Germanic tribes, who at some point moved south. Their place was taken by Slavic tribes, coming from the east. In the heyday of the Vikings (9 - 10 century) the island was conquered by the Viking king Waldemar I of Denmark. At some point in history it again became German.

1 Corinthians 1:28-29 “God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world —what is viewed as nothing—to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, so that no one may boast in His presence.”

Looking quite insignificant in its surroundings 70814 drifts by Washwood Heath with 6V25 Bescot Up Engineers to Hinksey Sidings conveying just a single wagon.

This was taken on a day when the waves down the mumbles were supposedly massive. As in, reach up onto the shore and drag you down, massive.

Me and Phil just missed them though due to uni work, but when we got there they were still rough.

There's nothing quite like the power of nature to make you feel so small and insignificant.

With this re-edit, I hope to have at least started to do the day justice.
