Thank you, my dear friends, for your wonderful comments and kind support. I'm still trying to catch up with visiting everyone's Photostream. If I haven't visited your page lately, it doesn't mean I've forgotten about you. It simply means I haven't had a chance to get to you yet. I'd rather spend quality time to write you an insightful comment than to rush to it. Have a lovely day, my dear friends!

Written By: Coen Brothers

Directed By: Coen Brothers

Produced By: HBO Films

Executive Producer:

Maggie Runo

Cinematographer : Twain Orfan

The Critics Have Spoken !

'My heart strings really pulled when Miss Runo was on one knee and became the Duck Whisperer. She actually spoke 'Duck'. There was no 'google translator' . She saved that baby duck's life. It was, for me, a very poignant moment ! '~ [ Lake Seven-Phoenix CineAction/Canada]

'I couldn't figure out Twain's role in the movie. The Coen Brothers seem to want him in two different roles. One minute he is telling this guy in the woods to flip a quarter and to put it in a special place ? Is Twain suppose to be Javier Bardem ? www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B_rRmkbA9I Then they have Twain take Miss Runo's hand and safely guide her out of the woods. So he's this 'hero' .. I found the movie cinematically beautiful, but confusing ! [Sabrine Maruti ~ Rolling Stone Magazine]

'I found Twain's use of lighting to be pretty good this time around. He used a proper amount of LED lighting around the trees. Cinematically speaking I'd give him good marks. His acting skill set ? Well , .... that's another matter completely.' [L'Homme Magazine ]

'I really enjoyed working with the Coen Brothers on this movie. It was well written and directed. The duck talking scene was insightful and I had to dig deep within myself to feel what they would, and I found it ! Working with Twain was easy. I don't know why people complain about his mesh not smelling good ? He seemed to bathe daily. [shrugs] He was a great acting partner and great in his role. His cinematography was outstanding !' [Maggie Runo ~ Executive Producer, Actress, Very Popular Hollywood Star, Hounded by people for her cursive Autograph]

'So I used a Canon XF705 Professional 4K Ultra HD camcorder with Wi-Fi® for the filming. The weather conditions were perfect most days. I had Optic neuritis when I was in my twenties, and it left me with some blind spots in my left eye. So, I'd look up at the sky, then look at the trees. I knew I'd need a lot of professional crayons to fill in various areas on the hundreds of movie cells. I asked Miss Runo if she would help me. Maggie has always been there for me. Always ! Maggie picked out a large set of crayola crayons for me. Then she told me I'd probably need a lot of red orange for filler. Well. Maggie was right. She's really very wise as a Producer and in all ways. I can't thank her enough ! [Twain Orfan ~ Cinematographer]

I am very honored that the image made it to second place in the "Taken March 2021" contest of Flickrology. Thanks for organizing the contest, the great images participating and the many insightful and constructive comments !

NO GROUP INVITES, PLEASE!!! I very much appreciate your comments..

A small and common babbler found in the countryside and sighted always in flocks much like the other babblers. They are noisy chatterboxes though delightful to watch and shoot. The birds are found in the scrub and underbush often flying from one bush to the other looking for small insects.

On this occasion though, the birds were singing and try to mate - my first such sighting. The males were not successful since the female wasn't interested, but it was an insightful experience to watch the birds sing from the same perch and wait for females to respond. The female did get a bit closer, but almost immediately became disinterested and flew far away taking a few of the males with her. The birds are not sexually dimorphic though - I assumed the genders based on the behaviours.

Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

Delta Blues Photographer and Historian. Her photography has graced the covers of Blues Albums, several international Blues concert posters, many hotels display her works in their rooms and hallways. She was honored to have a number of Musicians select her portraits to be displayed at their funerals. Big thrill for her was meeting and spending time with numerous famous "Old Blues musicians" and sharing a drink. Her knowledge of Blues music was so extensive that she was regarded as an established historian with a blog that was viewed internationally. The University of Mississippi has requested all of her photography for their archives.

This insightful Russian documentary on the personal life of the Dalai Lama had been removed from this site and just now I found it restored and decided to accompany the documentary with a collage.

Please take time to view. It's difficult to find. (Only itunes Australia has it for rent/sale)

In the documentary "Sunrise/Sunset", the Dalai Lama states one does not have to be a believer to attain Enlightenment.

This truth might appeal to you as it does to me.

Also inspired by the Dalai Lama’s baggy eyes in this film, I’ve increased my own practices :)

My own recent sunset (including orange ring around the Buddha) photos taken from house viewing window following a torrential rain provide the collage base followed by that gifted by A. Walden. Thank you Alan.

the protected remains of the old Cathedral in Coventry, which was bombed out during WWII and serves as a War Memorial nowadays, showcase the former beauty of its windows without the blasted stained glass, which allows the visitor to look through to the surrounding buildings to three sides and the new Cathedral to one side. A very impacting sight indeed.

To call hip hop “poetry” is to praise it, to commend it as insightful or artful. To reject hip hop as poetry is to condemn it as shallow or poorly written. On both sides of the debate, then, “poetry” often acts as an honorific term. ... In contrast, very few hip hop artists do not rhyme.

Holly was a good girl and she always had insightful things to say

Remembered funny anecdotes and

Knew the name of each species of bird by heart.

She could reach for things so high others couldn’t even see them.

But when Holly grew to a certain age, she blossomed

And when she blossomed, she was treated differently

Admired for her beauty and not her personality.

Others stopped truly seeing her for who she was.

This did not feel comfortable to Holly.

She enjoyed making people laugh and wonder

About deep philosophical questions.

She liked witnessing their gestures

when they thought she wasn’t looking.

She did not relish in attention over temporary attributes

And did not wish to make herself stand out

As if she were a most important tree in a busy forest.

Or, the only one left standing after a fire.

And so Holly dug holes in herself

At first, the holes were just little scrapes but then

the holes grew deep enough for insects

and small animals to burrow

She liked the feeling of an opening, a window here and there

And Holly was very happy

Because she now found a use for herself

in the art of both living, giving,

and forgiving.

A month ago, I quoted some analysts saying that it won't last more than 3 months and now here we are right at the endgame. As Graham E Fuller -- formerly vice-chair of the National Intelligence Council, having served as Station Chief in Kabul for the CIA -- put it succinctly in his blog on 16th this month :

" The final end of the government in Kxxx is at hand as the inexorable logic of regime collapse gains momentum. It seems more of a surprise to current policymakers than to those many observers with a long-time familiarity with the country’s dynamics. It will not be pleasant to watch, but it has long been inevitable given the utterly unrealistic ambitions and poor policy execution that Washxxx has maintained in Afgxxx. Unfortunately, those darker, but more insightful views on the entire enterprise have long been largely stifled by our media...

... it is the overall decline of Amxxx domestically and geopolitically that is the telltale sign of its deeper weakness; there is an increasing international belief that the UX is living inside a fantasy bubble of denial about maintaining its global hegemony. If the 20-year UX military presence in Afgxxx had actually ever shown any serious concrete advancement towards concrete goals, that would be one thing. But the neocons are ever content to throw good money after bad in the blind pursuit of hegemony — even in the very heart of “the graveyard of empires...

But Washxxx’s focus on Afgxxx in reality has had very little to do with establishing a better and more equitable society for the Afgxxx... "

We at Flickr are incredibly fortunate to have with us one of the all-time greats of photography, www.flickr.com/photos/bill_dane/.

Bill has been making joyful, inventive and insightful work since the 1960s. He's been acknolwledged by people like John Szarkowski and other major authorities in the medium. He continues to push the boundaries today with exciting images that expand our notion of what a photograph can be.

If you don't know Bill's work I recommend not losing any more time before checking him out.

National Geographic Traveler Magazine is a reference for anyone who enjoys travel, fine photography and insightful journalism. At the end of November 2008, the magazine published a top 109 of the most authentic destinations worldwide. The historic city centre of Ghent ranked third!

What a surprise! Not that Ghent is an authentic, real city filled with excellently preserved buildings, monuments and art treasures, but the real surprise is that the city is recognised for these qualities! And there’s more. Ghent is praised for its “brilliant mix of a wonderful past and a contemporary, vibrant city”.

Ghent can boast the title of highest-ranking city, preceded only by Austria’s Wachau Valley and the area around the Rideau Canal in Ontario, Canada. Prestigious destinations such as Lyon, York, Dublin, Istanbul, Cape Town, Munich and many others are ranked after the city of Ghent.

I remember being fascinated by the vastness of cherry orchards the first time I visited Old Mission Peninsula about 40 years ago. After all, Traverse City and environs was the "Cherry Capital of America".

Over the years we've revisited many times, and each year there seems to be more vineyards and new upscale housing, and fewer cherry orchards. To be sure there are still wonderful orchards, but the peninsula has become a bit more diversified.

Update: Thanks Ger Bosma for another insightful comment. Here's what I learned:

Michigan remains a top producer of cherries in the US, but the State of Washington has emerged as major competition, even selling eating cherries in Michigan! Michigan wineries do make cherry wine, but that is obviously a minor product...major production is of grape wine. Talked at length with a cherry farmer, and he explained the unique hazards of having $300000 on the trees that can only be harvested in a 2 week window.

We enjoyed a very unique tour through the historic and eerie, murderous London of the past in this Ghost Necrobus. Extremely enjoyable with an actress and a colleague of hers puiling all the strings to give the passengers a fun and insightful tour through all places London that have seen murder, executions, historic death tolls, plagues, ghostly appeareances etc. Delightfully presented and enacted and still some new facts to learn.

The title of this photo is the same as the title of one of my abstract paintings I produced about 33 years ago when I was somewhat landlocked in West Texas and the beach was not a significant or regular part of my life. But the title of my painting was both insightful and prophetic, and now I have spent many happy days of my life at the beach.

In lieu of any meaningful commentary where I say words that are funny, insightful, or interesting, I offer only this picture. And a promise that I'll get back to saying more interesting things -- ideally, on your photostreams -- post-Friday.

From childhood to youth and from youth to old age, humans strive to earn respect and admiration from others. We constantly seek validation, trying to prove ourselves worthy in the eyes of others. But the world remains unimpressed, never satisfied with our efforts.

If you're simple and genuine, the world mocks you, calling you naive or weak. If you're intelligent and insightful, it envies you, feeling threatened by your wisdom. If you keep to yourself, it labels you arrogant or aloof. If you're friendly and outgoing, it calls you a flatterer or people-pleaser.

In the end, you'll leave this world quietly, wondering what it was all about. You'll ask, "What was the point of this life?" And nobody will have the answer. We realize too late that true fulfillment comes from within, not from external validation.

Chittenango Falls State Park, New York

the last of my waterfall photos from my wonderful October 2008 trip to upstate NY. Thanks so much for the views and insightful comments! Definitely a place I need to visit again....

Two and a half decades ago, I started running independent photo workshops, and one of the participants - Alan, a very good photographer and an insightful human being - invited me to visit him if I ever happened to be in the Ottawa area. Alan was a few years older than me. He lived in a big old rural farmhouse. One winter, on the way home after visiting my mom in Québec, I spent two days with Alan.

We went out shooting early the morning after a fabulous snowfall - all sparkly light and fluffy snow. I was selling a lot of photos to calendar publishers in those years, and must have been yammering on about it when Alan said something that struck home: "James! Life is not a calendar shot!"

Wow.

He was right.

When I look back at my body of work from the previous decade, it was probably my least interesting and creative period. I had become too immersed in trying to be "successful" and was in danger of losing my way as an artist.

The image on this page is definitely NOT a calendar shot. No bright sunny skies. No trees framing a scene. In fact, the "scene" does not exist, and the trees are in the middle, not around the edges. Just aspens, stripped of their leaves by the turn of the seasons. Nope, I can't imagine any calendar editor would be remotely interested in this one. I don't even know how "good" it is. Good nature photos are usually about graphic simplicity, and this is exactly the opposite. But it appeals to me. It really does.

And at this stage of my life, I'd rather fail in a creative effort than be successful via a tried-and-true formula.

My wise friend passed away a few years ago. I was pleased to see that he had some success of his own - gallery exhibitions of his big abstract images. Thank you, Alan, for your directness and clarity; it meant a lot to me.

Daughter of Sarada Uchiha (9th hogake) and Boruto Uzumaki, Izumi may be the 11th hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village. She has the fire willpower of the Senjuo's, sharingan perfect of the Uchiha's (just like her great-uncle Itachi), in her veins has the byakugan of the Hyuga's and the super regeneration and agitation of the Uzumaki's. And can still receive Kurama ...

Withe typical Uzumaki's red hair and the Uchiha's sharingan (and cute glasses as your mother), Izumi will always be a strong opponent, quick, unpredictable and insightful.

Was she a strong character, was not she? Who could be your opponent?

Cicko's first year on Earth, after being left stranded inside the shoebox near our house, approximately 2 days after being given birth.

It seems he is enjoying his first days of his life, which he really do. Even though he doesn't know where his mother is, or can't comprehend what the presence of mother brings, nor does he resent or blame anyone responsible for his shoebox thing, he is still happy little boy.

These were insightful times, watching him grow and learn about life, without someone to learn from, except couple of human beings, different from his kind.

His instincts, and how God have created him, were always on spot. No problems there: catching what cat is supposed to catch, running, playing, games, toys, friskiness, naughtiness, restlessness...

The only problem I am seeing is with the relationship with other cats, that come to our house from time to time. Cicko does not know how to handle that yet. He haven't had the chance to learn from anyone, and in the pressence of them, he does know how to make a stand... Usually, he rather leaves, or give his best sleeping spots to the temporary newcomers of his kind.

Also, when other cats are present, he is having a problem with eating... He needs peace to eat. He is constantly looking around while other csts are in viscinity... seems like he can't put his guard down.

He is almost one year old by now, and we are looking forward on his progress.

Not to mention all the medical trouble we had with him. On this particular day when this photo was taken, on this same spot, he was throwing up, at least 6-7 times, and his belly was inflated, his eyes like he's dying, face sad, and he was constantly finding place to hide, to sleep...like he was finding place to sleep forever. Eyes were telling us everything.

But tjen the sun came onto his life, amd we couldn't believe what a shift in the mood occured. My God, he became the happiest little lad in the timespace of half a day.

Happy birthday, Cicko.

Over the past decade one of the common advices given to aspiring photographers is to explore various of photographic themes from which they may start developing their own style. Style, so I believe, is first and foremost the reflection of the photographer’s own personality combined with his/her favored theme/subject and her preferred technique(s) of execution. It’s good advise even though slightly inadequate.

I have realized this couple of months ago when my work was criticized as “mirroring the reality”. Indeed, simply just. Behind the bland words and the euphemistic praises the critique is not very pleasant to read, however it was probably one of the most insightful critique I ever received. It hallowed me to deepen the engagement with my subjects, not in order to capture photographs but to make pictures and even tableaux.
