* While I was actually on holiday I posted a shot of the view from our cottage on a cloudy murky morning . I was hoping at some point that I would get the view in better light and as you can see I was lucky . This was the first sight when we opened the front door and for someone who lives in a city it was a real tonic. This is a panorama stitched from 3 shots

'I couldn't figure out Twain's role in the movie. The Coen Brothers seem to want him in two different roles. One minute he is telling this guy in the woods to flip a quarter and to put it in a special place ? 'So I used a Canon XF705 Professional 4K Ultra HD camcorder with Wi-Fi® for the filming. The weather conditions were perfect most days. I had Optic neuritis when I was in my twenties, and it left me with some blind spots in my left eye. So, I'd look up at the sky, then look at the trees. I knew I'd need a lot of professional crayons to fill in various areas on the hundreds of movie cells. I asked Miss Runo if she would help me. Maggie has always been there for me. Always ! Maggie picked out a large set of crayola crayons for me. Then she told me I'd probably need a lot of red orange for filler. Well. Maggie was right. She's really very wise as a Producer and in all ways. I can't thank her enough ! [Twain Orfan ~ Cinematographer]

A small and common babbler found in the countryside and sighted always in flocks much like the other babblers. They are noisy chatterboxes though delightful to watch and shoot. The birds are found in the scrub and underbush often flying from one bush to the other looking for small insects.
On this occasion though, the birds were singing and try to mate - my first such sighting. The males were not successful since the female wasn't interested, but it was an insightful experience to watch the birds sing from the same perch and wait for females to respond. The female did get a bit closer, but almost immediately became disinterested and flew far away taking a few of the males with her. The birds are not sexually dimorphic though - I assumed the genders based on the behaviours.

This insightful Russian documentary on the personal life of the Dalai Lama had been removed from this site and just now I found it restored and decided to accompany the documentary with a collage.

In the documentary "Sunrise/Sunset", the Dalai Lama states one does not have to be a believer to attain Enlightenment.
This truth might appeal to you as it does to me.

the protected remains of the old Cathedral in Coventry, which was bombed out during WWII and serves as a War Memorial nowadays, showcase the former beauty of its windows without the blasted stained glass, which allows the visitor to look through to the surrounding buildings to three sides and the new Cathedral to one side. A very impacting sight indeed.

Holly was a good girl and she always had insightful things to say
Remembered funny anecdotes and
Knew the name of each species of bird by heart.
She could reach for things so high others couldn’t even see them.
But when Holly grew to a certain age, she blossomed

A month ago, I quoted some analysts saying that it won't last more than 3 months and now here we are right at the endgame. Bill has been making joyful, inventive and insightful work since the 1960s. He's been acknolwledged by people like John Szarkowski and other major authorities in the medium. He continues to push the boundaries today with exciting images that expand our notion of what a photograph can be.
If you don't know Bill's work I recommend not losing any more time before checking him out.
How interesting to know that tarantulas are not naturally very aggressive and they are rarely lethal. Like any other animals, they will defend themselves once cornered.

LARGER VIEW for YOU
I remember being fascinated by the vastness of cherry orchards the first time I visited Old Mission Peninsula about 40 years ago. After all, Traverse City and environs was the "Cherry Capital of America".
Over the years we've revisited many times, and each year there seems to be more vineyards and new upscale housing, and fewer cherry orchards. To be sure there are still wonderful orchards, but the peninsula has become a bit more diversified.
Update: Thanks Ger Bosma for another insightful comment. Here's what I learned:
Michigan remains a top producer of cherries in the US, but the State of Washington has emerged as major competition, even selling eating cherries in Michigan! Michigan wineries do make cherry wine, but that is obviously a minor product...major production is of grape wine. Talked at length with a cherry farmer, and he explained the unique hazards of having $300000 on the trees that can only be harvested in a 2 week window.
The morning sun glints off of mountain sides and slinks in and out of clouds banks from a previous night's thunderstorms in Eddy Montana; meanwhile, the daily MRL gas local is seen making its rounds between Missoula and Thompson Falls. Off the cuff trip to Montana V3 is on the books, with this one being the best yet. Special thanks as always to Mr. Tom Danneman for the always insightful information.

We enjoyed a very unique tour through the historic and eerie, murderous London of the past in this Ghost Necrobus. Extremely enjoyable with an actress and a colleague of hers puiling all the strings to give the passengers a fun and insightful tour through all places London that have seen murder, executions, historic death tolls, plagues, ghostly appeareances etc. Delightfully presented and enacted and still some new facts to learn.

I was so excited to get a picture done by the amazingly talented Seashell Dench and afterwards she surprised us with an offer to do a pic of Anubis and I together. While shooting she said, " Love is not always looking at each other,..but looking in the same direction." ..and the insightful truth of the statement really hit home and touched us both. That's my motorcycle, Melissa, parked at the beach.
The title of this photo is the same as the title of one of my abstract paintings I produced about 33 years ago when I was somewhat landlocked in West Texas and the beach was not a significant or regular part of my life. But the title of my painting was both insightful and prophetic, and now I have spent many happy days of my life at the beach.

From childhood to youth and from youth to old age, humans strive to earn respect and admiration from others. We constantly seek validation, trying to prove ourselves worthy in the eyes of others. But the world remains unimpressed, never satisfied with our efforts.
If you're simple and genuine, the world mocks you, calling you naive or weak. If you're intelligent and insightful, it envies you, feeling threatened by your wisdom. If you keep to yourself, it labels you arrogant or aloof. If you're friendly and outgoing, it calls you a flatterer or people-pleaser.
In the end, you'll leave this world quietly, wondering what it was all about. You'll ask, "What was the point of this life?" And nobody will have the answer.We realize too late that true fulfillment comes from within, not from external validation.

'The Understanding' is not a logical action.... but an insightful process of the viewers whole ego.
Two and a half decades ago, I started running independent photo workshops, and one of the participants - Alan, a very good photographer and an insightful human being - invited me to visit him if I ever happened to be in the Ottawa area. Alan was a few years older than me. He lived in a big old rural farmhouse. One winter, on the way home after visiting my mom in Québec, I spent two days with Alan.
We went out shooting early the morning after a fabulous snowfall - all sparkly light and fluffy snow. I was selling a lot of photos to calendar publishers in those years, and must have been yammering on about it when Alan said something that struck home: "James! Life is not a calendar shot!"
Wow.
He was right.
When I look back at my body of work from the previous decade, it was probably my least interesting and creative period. I had become too immersed in trying to be "successful" and was in danger of losing my way as an artist.
The image on this page is definitely NOT a calendar shot. No bright sunny skies. No trees framing a scene. In fact, the "scene" does not exist, and the trees are in the middle, not around the edges. Just aspens, stripped of their leaves by the turn of the seasons. Nope, I can't imagine any calendar editor would be remotely interested in this one. I don't even know how "good" it is. Good nature photos are usually about graphic simplicity, and this is exactly the opposite. But it appeals to me. It really does.
And at this stage of my life, I'd rather fail in a creative effort than be successful via a tried-and-true formula.
My wise friend passed away a few years ago. I was pleased to see that he had some success of his own - gallery exhibitions of his big abstract images. Thank you, Alan, for your directness and clarity; it meant a lot to me.

Measured bars of red & white rhythms in corrugated waves, light & dark, and syncopated bolts!
Thanks to my friend Phil pointing out that it's the colours of the Canadian flag, I've re-titled this photo to reflect that insightful observation.
Perhaps that's why the architects chose this bold red colour to clad the building and use white for the trim, along with huge cedar beams to support the roofs.
