Female Twelve-spotted Skimmer (Libellula pulchella) and her potential lunch (a.k.a. Syrphid Fly; Cheilosia albitarsis) - Penny Lane, Penny Lake Preserve, Boothbay Harbor, Maine

And speaking of "Lunch on the Fly",

dragonflies only capture prey while it is in flight.

And when I say only, I mean it, since I've seen flies sitting on flowers right in front of them, and they make no attempt to capture them until they fly away.

'Kinda like how people shoot ducks.

Aeshna cyanea, ♂

Under this bent and bent stem, at the water's edge this male of Aeshna cyanea became invisible from above, thus protecting himself in this phase 4 of the emergency, waiting for his wings to spread, harden and dry, to start your first flight, with a bit of luck because the wind that was blowing that morning could deform your wings.

My thanks to Ricardo, to Albert, who took me to that oasis of life.

Photographed in: Peralta de Calasanz. Huesca. Spain.

Muro. Baleares. España.

Sympecma fusca, ♂

Showing all its long abdomen and with the wings to the other side, as is customary in this species, that stick to the stems of the canes to become invisible. Male of Sympecma fusca adult who has already spent the winter, the only species that does it, demonstrated by that touch of blue in his eyes.

Photographed in: Albufera Mallorca. Muro. Baleares. Spain.
