A little girl holds a Monarch butterfly in her hand. I love these kind of shots at Butterfly World.

The more I look at this honeybee the more I think that she got caught out in the open over night and when it landed on my shoulder it was starving. I coaxed it onto a Sourgrass flower just so I'd have an interesting platform to photograph it on, but to my surprise she started feeding on it. I carefully pealed back a few petals so could get her eye in the frame. No need to bait her with sugar syrup for this one, she was more hungry than afraid.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering with -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

My wife and I bought some Ladybugs to help with an aphid problem in our garden. This is one of them on a Sunflower leaf.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (3x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI, Sharpen AI, and Clarity in that order.

I coaxed this small Mining Bee onto a Dandelion and photographed her when she paused. This is one of five frames that I managed to take before she got her metabolism going and took off. One of the benefits of looking for something to photograph early in the morning when it's still cool outside.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT with a Kaiser adjustable flash shoe on the "A" head (the key), E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

Gestern war ich mal wieder auf meine Lieblingswiese unterwegs und fand dieses Feuerlibellen-Weibchen .

Starting off 2026 the right way, with some dragonfly macros! The end of the year got quite busy so I'm trying to hop back on the ball and post frequently again...

I spotted this little lady while out on a walk in some wetland. This species gets its name from the red veins in their wings. The males are bright red colour.

Hope everyone had an awesome Christmas and New Years!

Taken with an EF-S 55-250mm lens on a Canon R7.

I went looking for something to photograph and found a Hoverfly feeding on Dandelion pollen that was more hungry than afraid. If you look closely you can see how it wraps its mouth parts around an anther in order to strip pollen from it.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F13, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT, E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Sharpen AI and Clarity in that order.

I found the critter that's been chewing holes in my Sunflowers. No idea what this caterpillar will become, but I'm gonna see if I can raise it.

A swallowtail butterfly at Butterfly World, Coconut Creek, Florida. The wonders good image stabilization can produce....

Dieser Grashüpfer saß so ruhig, hier konnte ich mit meiner Sony A7IV ein Focus Bracketing machen. Dieses Foto ist aus 15 Einzel Bildern gemacht worden von mir. 😇

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. I normally don't see Rosemary Beetles this late in the year, but it's been unusually warm.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 3x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT (E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I used an artificial flower to keep the background from being black.

The Copper Chafer (Protaetia cuprea) is a 14–20 mm beetle with a metallic sheen ranging from copper-red to green. Active from May to August in gardens, meadows, and woodland edges, adults feed on nectar and pollen and act as pollinators, while the larvae live in decaying wood and humus-rich soil, breaking down organic matter. In this way, the species contributes both to pollination and soil fertility.
