So this Booma, who I liked to think of as my little mini-beast

friend. Booma & Ranga were my two pet leaf insects who sadly passed away last. year. They made great low maintenance pets! A cluster of gum leaves, spray their enclosure with some water mist every couple of days and they were happy campers. They liked going out to play now and then, in some of the potted plants around the yard. Ranga, the female, used to like play acting the scene from Titanic and hanging from my fingers, arms into the wind. She was Rose, and I was, ahmmm, the Titanic. Bonus thing is they were great for terrifying some of the lady neighbours too 😉 I miss my cute little mini-beasty friends

Fun facts about leaf insects:

- they walk in a rocking motion, and when they are in amongst the leaves, they sway to imitate the wind blowing on real leaves.

- If no males are around, the female is able to reproduce by herself.

If you are wondering about their names, think about them in the context of stick insects

Happy humpday all 😀

Hello There!

An image from late summer:

This is a newly arrived dragonfly who was content to enjoy the sunny day. There are clouds reflected in the water which I thought was kinda neat! I had never spotted this type of dragonfly before, so I was pretty stoked!

Thanks a million for stopping by and for your comments; I do appreciate them! Have a fantastic day!

Hello All!

I love nature photography because you never know what you will find. I am like a little kid who likes surprises!

A few days back I was looking for ripening berries with my macro. As I was shooting some blackberries, the wasp flew in to enjoy the fruit. Suddenly the wasp flew away from the berry and landed on a leaf. Within moments it laid this one egg and then flew away.

Thanks for looking and for your comments. I really do appreciate hearing from you! Have a yourself a fantastic day!

Scarce Chaser Dragonfly - Dedham 27-06-2009 P1000953

A mayfly resting on a rainy day

A flower hug from a bumble bee on a red dahlia in my garden. I can't wait until spring is here even though we have almost 3' of snow on the ground. I did see my first robin that migrated back this week so that's a good sign.

If you were a bee, where would you dine? Lily's at the Uni would be a regular for me. Lily's signature dish is a fine one, fresh Water Lily. The venue is very clean, being on a pond unreachable by undesirables, the other visitors mainly being environmentally aware Uni students. And the occasional photographer ;) Can't comment on the service, being a self-service establishment. The location has beautiful water views (the pond) and natural bush surrounding it. And value wise you can't beat free! I can see why Lily's has bee'n all the buzz lately. Truly, I'm not pollen your leg!

Must have hundreds of photos from the last couple of weeks now the lilies are back out in force. I'll try not to drown my feed in them!

Fun Fact: Water lilies have been important to scientists because of their position near the base of the evolutionary tree of all flowering plants. I just like the way they look ;)

Hi Everyone!

This week's Monday Macros theme is "Eye"

Must've been fate when I just happened to find this 'lil guy outside today. This is just a single image shot of a common Horsefly using the Rotolight Neo2 for illumination.

Macros are real fun when the subject strikes your fancy.

One of these days I'm going to attempt extensive image stacking just to see what I can accomplish.

Thank Y'all for taking a look !

Happy Macro Monday my friends.

Another shot from my Macro session with the wasps, concentration and mind over matter was what I required as these little insects crawled all over my hands.

Thanks for viewing my photos and for any favourites and comments, it’s much appreciated 👍

The dung beetle has a lot to do here. He is the cleaner in this area and clears away all the remains of the other animals. Still, he looks so good that I mirrored him.
