Quick stack out of 16 pictures in Helicon Focus

Beneath the quiet hush of the forest floor, where the light barely filters through the canopy, a moment of life unfolds in secret. With wings like velvet painted in iridescent blue, the Archduke butterfly descends—not to bask in sunlight, but to feast on decay.

A forgotten fruit, shriveled and blackened, becomes a treasure trove of nutrients. The butterfly unrolls its slender proboscis and drinks deeply, drawing sustenance from what the forest leaves behind. There is elegance in this moment—where beauty meets the cycle of life and death, where even rot plays a vital role.

Here, in the silence, the Archduke reigns—not by grandeur or glory, but by the quiet persistence of life in the shadows.

Little Grasshopper, to give some idea of scale the blade of grass he's sitting on is 4mm wide

Getting my macro photography back on. Samantha wandered into our rumpus room last night and scuttled under the lounge, prompting my wife to lift her legs off the floor faster than I've seen her move in years ;)

Samantha emerged later looking very pleased with her new "dust and debris" hairdo, I think it's going to be the go-to style for all the in-crowd stylish spiders this season. Or maybe I should think about cleaning under the lounge every now and then.

For the technically minded this photo is actual size and is a focus stack of 10 photos taken with my Olympus 60mm macro lens with a Raynox250 lens attached.

Cheers from Samantha & I :)

Hi People!

Yet another image of the Painted Lady. I hope you like Painted Ladies because I took tons of images of them this summer/early fall. I can't seem to capture enough butterflies, the season is so short ...

I appreciate your views and comments very much. THANK YOU! Have a fantastic day!

A lateral view is shared here to show the pretty flash of turquoise on the thorax. This took quite some doing as the dragon was very restless in nature.

A summer's day, enjoying the exceptional aerial prowess of the dragonfly.

Body length 50mm.

Tettigonia viridissima or Green Bush-Cricket

I took this photo in Uppland, Sweden.

To me, the most interesting parts of this dragonfly is the color green, and the wonderful eyes. The substrate was not that nice. All in all, I decided to go for an extreme crop and vignette, emphasizing the elements I like about it.

Hello Everyone!

Thistles are the best diners, especially if you are a bee!

The image is from this past summer with editing and a gentle slide via Topaz Studio.

Happy Sliders Sunday! HSS!

Thanks a million for your comments and views. All are very much appreciated! Have a fantastic day!

Two-Lined Planthoppers (Acanalonia bivittata) are about 6 mm long (1/4”) with reddish stripes on the tops of their wings. They are found on black walnut, blueberry, cranberry and goldenrods, among other plants

My image appears in Bugguide.Net for this species.

The autumn-blooming sedum flowers are just now beginning to burst forth in their glorious pink and red flowers.

Their pink glory is not just a delight to me, but also to the last generation of Monarch butterflies that are frantically feeding before they make their long migration to hibernation in Mexico.

This butterfly allowed me to get up close to capture this profile view as it fed on the nectar of the florets.

Uhvatio sam ga u kadar zahvaljujući strpljenju i ovom ljetnom svjetlu — pravi trenutak makrofotografije.

Sepia bush-cricket

By the grassland edge near Šilo, I discovered a Sepiana sepium—commonly called the sepia bush-cricket. Its body blends gray-brown to reddish tones, marked by a distinctive dark, triangle-shaped pronotum edged with a light line, and a dark patch above the eye bisected by a pale streak.

Adults emerge in summer (July–September), and the males add a sharp, “scratching” chorus to the meadow’s soundtrack. Interestingly, this species holds the record for proportionally the largest testes in the animal world.

Capturing it took patience and that magical light of summer — a true moment of macro photography.

Lucilia sericata (Meigen, 1826) (Diptera: calliphoridae)

The species is distinguished in that the female is bright green with a banded abdomen and the mature male has a blue abdomen with a green face and green and blue thorax.

The eastern pondhawk is native to parts of North America and Central America. The eastern pondhawk is an athletic, swift-flying predator, able to catch damselflies and other insect prey on the wing.

The blackish meadow katydid making its way through the lime green foliage of 'Sheena's Gold' Duranta.

Specifically Conocephalus semivittatus ssp. semivittatus. Commonly known as coneheads for obvious reasons.

Small in size compared to other katydids I've come across, around 15 mm body length.

Green orchid bees are varying shades of glossy metallic green and can grow to a length of about 1.3 cm (0.5 in). The membranous wings are dark-coloured and translucent and the female has pollen baskets on her hind legs. The male has an enlarged joint on his hind leg where there is a pit for storing substances he gathers from plants. The female but not the male possesses a sting which can be used on more than one occasion but which is not as painful to humans as a honeybee's sting.

Love and coddle 😉

A week ago, winter and a light frost returned. Will the insects survive it?
