To get the queen wasp away from the fly, I enticed it onto my finger with some sugar/honey syrup.

The holly blue butterfly in the previous shots had been remarkably calm about me taking photos, so when I'd finished, I stuck a finger under it's nose and much to my surprise it walked on and stayed there quite a while. It only flew off when I tried walking up the garden to show the wife.

How many Butterfly species are there? Someone knows I'm sure. How are they named? Where do they all go in cold weather? How do they find their way there? We need a GPS to go to Gramma's house two states away for Thanksgiving? Just one of the life's colorful creatures that poses more questions then answers. "Butterflies"

If you have seen a luna moth, consider yourself lucky because it only lives as a moth for about a week; the rest of its life is spent as a caterpillar or pupating!

Although they appear frightening, swarming bees are generally non-aggressive. This is principally due to the lack of a brood (developing bees) to defend. That said, they will attack if they feel threatened, as I know only too well. I was inspecting a similar swarm a few years ago & was rewarded by a sting on the nose. No problems this time though, thankfully.
