Taken with EF-S 18-55mm IS II reverse mounted, aperture stopped down to f/11 and focal length approximately 40mm. Magnification ratio approximately 1.06x.
Our sudden warm spell caused many new insects to hatch out, and this garden spider has benefited from it!
Was well pleased to get this one although it's showing a bit of wear to the wings. Easily mistaken for Southern hawker. Couple of differences are the Common has a saffron yellow costa, (Leading edge of the wing) and the blue spots at the base of the abdomen never fully join as do the Southern hawker's

The Downy Emerald (Cordulia aenea) is a notable insect in Britain. The hairy abdomen and wonderful green eyes of this insect make it one of my favourites.
