An Ichneumon wasp found in the garden. It is one of the Ichneumoninae subfamily, and thanks are owed to Jaswinder Boparai for identifying it as Stenichneumon culpator. The blunt tooth on hind coxa is diagnostic. Additional pictures below show a bit more detail.
STROBIST : this one was taken with one off camera speedlight YN560 II , triggered with a cactus v5, on a light stand, with a homemade (with love) softbox just above the flower.
I shot with my Canon 7d and my Sigma 18 35 mm 1,8 (love this lens!)
A very beneficial predator of whiteflies, aphids, and larvae on agricultural crops, it is only about a quarter inch long. Here it is nectaring on a Queen Anne's Lace.

Colorful grasshopper nymph, probably an Aztec Spur-throat, Aidemona azteca. I am not sure what the flower is. Zilker Botanical Garden, Austin. 8/3/18.
There are at least 2 species of armored scales, possibly Florida red scale, Chrysomphalus aonidum (Linnaeus), and a Lepidosaphes sp. -- maybe gloverii.

I like Yoshizawa's advice for folding the dragonfly head, "If you find it difficult to make the head, you may simply roll the paper and push it in from both sides." I couldn't get the head right so ended up rolling and squashing it a bit :). I would like to get better at this type of origami.
