The wooden anthropoid coffin of a man called "Aba son of Ankh Hor", ruler and governor of Upper Egypt and the Head of the treasury.
The coffin is fully decorated in the shape of a mummy resembling Osiris with the upturned ceremonial false beard and a wig. The eyes are inlaid with ivory and ebony. Iba wears a large multicoloured necklace, and the sky-goddess Nut appears on the chest area. The goddess Isis with wide-spread wings is portrayed on the feet, while the goddess Nephtys appears at the head. The three goddesses offer protection to the deceased. The coffin lid is also decorated with texts from the Egyptian Book of the Dead and the base shows hieroglyphic inscriptions.

Volubilis developed from the 3rd century BC as a Berber, then proto-Carthaginian, settlement before being the capital of the kingdom of Mauretania. It grew rapidly under Roman rule from the 1st century AD.

Just trying out the newly acquired Olympus EPL-3. Such a small thing. Not very ideal for long exposures but it'll do as a backup camera for us when travelling I guess.

The former Quarantine Station on the shores of Sydney Harbour was used to isolate ship arrivals who we affected by disease, from the 1830s to the 1980s. A visit to this site is especially moving during the current pandemic. Many residents recorded their stay as graffiti carved into the rocks, such as these Chinese inscriptions which are rapidly weathering away.
The inscription on the plaque reads : "A tribute from the people of Boddam to the men and women who served at Royal Air Force Buchan 1952 - 2005".
A tribute to Royal Air Force personnel who served at RAF Buchan in the village of Boddam, near Peterhead.
The imposing bronze statue of an airman looks out to sea at the entrance to the village and marks 52 years of RAF presence.
The statue was unveiled by Air Commodore Mark Ashwell, a former Station Commander at RAF Buchan, and the Lord Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire, Angus Farquharson. As an RAF Piper played, personnel from Remote Radar Head Buchan provided a Guard of Honour for the occasion, and a Tornado from RAF Leuchars followed by a Sea King from RAF Lossiemouth provided a flypast
Local councillor Sam Coull was proud that the Boddam Community Association had decided to pay tribute to all the men and women who had served at RAF Buchan.
While reviewing images to edit for what should have been the past week's #SepulchralSunday post, I decided I wanted to create a new curated series called last words. Photographs from my sepulchre series that focus closely on poignant inscriptions on graves.
This capture and another I took at St Kilda Cemetery in 2007 caught my eye and inspired the idea.
Strangely, I had already edited this particular photograph. Notably, the day before my birthday in 2018.
However, I can't see where I've previously published it online or otherwise, and I don't know why exactly I edited it that day.
As I can't locate where I might have published it, I have to believe I never shared it before, so I stuck with my choice for the first post from this new curated series.
I hope you enjoy this new series as I share them over the coming weeks mixed in with my other series: late bloomers, stained glass and, as we approach Christmas again, season's grievings.
I posted this early access for my Patreon patrons a few days ago.
On the Minster wall next to the West Door.
It reads "30 FOOT FROM THIS PLACE LIES INTERRED THE BODY OF GEORGE CHAPPELL WHO DIED SEPT 3 1679"
He was a Vicar Cori - the leader of the Minster choir.
I don't know the significance of the anchor above.

This inscription was made by Fr. Bernard Hubbard and his crew during an expedition of the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes in 1929.
The inscription created as a woodcarving detail in 1721 AD on the iconostasis of the Virgin Mary’s church of the 13th or 14th century inside the cave of Agio Galas ( “Panagía Agiogaloúsaena” ) in Chios Island, Greece. Woodcarving was part of religious art there and the iconostases of Chian traditional style were especially notable. Few wooden carvings have been preserved.
ANNO DOMINI MCCCCXXII IN DIE SANCTI ANDREE CREVIT AQUA TIBERIS USQUE AD SUMMITATEM ISTIUS LAPIDIS - TPRE DOMINI MARTINI PONTIFEX V - ANNO VI [Pope Martin V: 1417-1431]
Rhandel of the university of Petraea, ancient documents department had arranged to meet a grizzled old sailor at a seedy dock side tavern, for this sailor had in his possession a document telling of a secret passage leading into the strong room of one of the principle towns on the inland sea. when the sailor eventually turned up (much to Rhandels relief) a deal was eventually struck (involving no small amount of haggling and a good deal of gold). Little did the hagglers know that they were being watched by one who's motives were a lot more sinister, for the passage ended in the towns strong room, where all it's gold was kept. When Rhandel eventually left the tavern with his precious load, a cloaked figure detached itself from the darkness by the taverns window and began to follow him.
