For Macro Mondays

Theme: Kitchen

I love a hot cup of tea. I hate a mouthful of tea leaves! So I stick to tea bags and this heart shaped tea infuser remains unused in the kitchen drawer.

(I put a red LED inside it to try and catch the ''3" shape of the other clam half. But who ever makes tea in the dark?)

Ancient Chinese Proverb say tea good for heart.

Another, Tea is drunk to forget the din of the world.

And, Water is the mother of tea, a teapot its father, and fire the teacher

Infuse your life with action. Don't wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen... yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.

Macro Mondays - My Daily Routine theme.

Every day I start the morning with a cup of tea; jasmine is one of my favourites, it has a delicate fragrance and taste.

The tea infuser is 4 cm in diameter, the pearls 0.5 cm each.

Built in the first half of the 18th century, Leanach cottage sits on one corner of the Culloden battlefield, the last major battle on British soil. It is built of stone and turf and roofed with thatch made from heather. There used to be another building adjoined to it but it was destroyed when Government troops deliberately set fire to it to burn alive 32 injured Jacobite fighters inside.

Having lived in Scotland before, I'm now taking the opportunity to visit places I never managed to get to before. And now that I live in the heart of Bonnie Prince Charlie land around Moidart, I'm keen to get my history correct for the benefit of guests to our B&B.

I've been reading up so much history put together by the Moidart History Group in Glenuig. Their research put rather a different slant on the otherwise romantic idea of BPC reclaiming the throne for a British King from the German Hanovarian incumbent. (An 18th century Brexit jaunt). It seems BPC (Bonnie Prince Charlie) was not that popular hanging around the courts of Europe, and even his own father disapproved strongly with the Prince's plan to take the throne back for his family. But with the enthusiasm only a Scottish football fan can have he set off with virtually no support, but with a sense of optimism like that that drove Ally McLeod at the head of his tartan army all the way to Argentina for the 1978 World Cup that they were definitely going to win. Of course that venture all ended up in tears as did the Scottish Jacobite rebellion of 1745, at Culloden.

Having fought and beaten every English Government force they met, the Jacobite army battled their way down through England, as far as Derby, with the capital London in their sights. There, things started to fall apart, a bit like Ally's army when some of the team tested positive for drugs, and they retreated north, harried by Government forces all the way, until they arrived back in the Highlands at Culloden on 16th April 1746.

The battle only lasted about an hour. The Government forces had been well rested, and outnumbered and out gunned the Jacobites, who stood on a tactically inferior position. The Jacobites lost 1500-2000 men in that hour, the Government forces only about 300. Many Jacobite prisoners were summarily executed earning the Government commander, The Duke of Cumberland, the title of The Butcher. The Jacobite survivors dispersed whilst BPC fled and hid in the Highlands, often dressed as a woman before returning to France.

It's a history that is hard for me. With an English father, an army officer, and a Scots mother I cannot call myself either English or Scots. I can only be British. But my genes are infused with Highlander DNA and my heart is Scottish, but my head, English.

I've grown up with Scots chanting about Bannockburn, the Scots victory over the English in 1314, William Wallace and Mel Gibson and all that BS of a crap film shot in Ireland. In contrast the English don't seem to boast about Culloden, and the Scots remain tightlipped about it. But even as I drove towards a visit to Culloden near Inverness, the local radio mentioned a first meeting in Fort William this coming Friday for a new Scottish Independence rally. I cannot support it. Oh, by the way I discovered the battlefield is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays! A battlefield closed? I hope they mention that to Putin. You can't invade Ukraine on a Monday or Tuesday. It's closed.

No, coming back to England V Scotland....fighting each other has not been good for either side. And that's what the SNP independence drive makes us do. Fight each other. But even worse, it makes Scot fight against Scot for what they deem to be their nation and their independence.

There were large numbers of Scots on both sides at Culloden. You can see the humps in the ground where the mass graves are, in between the Government and Jacobite lines, in no man's land. We should learn that fighting each other does no good!

We very rarely drink tea at home - and when we do it's likely to be from a tea bag - but we do have one of the cute strainer balls, just in case.

This teacup comes with its own infuser.

I have been unwell this week so my photographic scope has been limited, so yes it's that glass table again.

In the morning a little light and a tea infuser will do the trick for me. I had a photo of boiling water all prepared when this idea struck my old brain... so here it is. Enjoy your morning tea of coffee! (f.y.i the light inside is made up of 2 different colors, with a felt-marker)

Infused with wonderous blue hues by the glacial rock flour suspended in its torrents, a cold winter river cascades into a fissure in the basalt landscape forming the beautiful Brúarfoss, near Laugarvatn, Iceland.

On our awesome photographic journey through Iceland late last winter, Sky Matthews and I made a point of trying to find this amazing place. Its quite convenient but not obvious, if that makes sense, and the mood of the day ended up complementing the experience well. The skies were gray and volatile, befitting the season; the trail was ice and snow covered; and a few flurries frittered slowly down in the breeze for a time as we gazed upon the intricate waterfalls. Perhaps most intriguingly, the ruddy blue waters appeared in such vivid contrast to the surrounding subdued earth tones and grayscale atmosphere. A stunning winter scene!

A note: We were fortunate to be able experience this beautiful place when it was open to visitors, but I understand that the trail to Brúarfoss was closed later that summer due to impacts of the increasing volume of tourists visiting the site, at least some of whom apparently were not respectful of this magnificent environment. Yet another reminder of the need to take great care as we interact with these natural wonders and the many other landscapes we pass through along the way.

Thanks for viewing!

Still the most dramatic event we have been lucky to see and photograph. The wildebeest migration crossing the swollen Mara River in Maasai Mara.

For the human spectator, it's a breathtaking and utterly unforgettable experience. It is visually three-dimensional, aurally magnificent, infused with an infectious aura of chaos and confusion, and tangibly charged with adrenalin.

Take your typical monsoon and infuse it with some awesome tropical moisture and suddenly Arizona gets to see stuff like this. I want to say it's a rare sight, which it is...but with this year already seeing supercells and a shelf cloud like this, plus last year...it's suddenly becoming more common! Might be El Nino related and they'll become hard to see again in the coming years...but for now I'll take it.

Macro Monday's and the theme of "Tea".

I mistakenly bought a box of loose leaf tea several months ago and this has remained in our kitchen cupboard since then.

Now with this weeks MM theme being Tea I decided it was time to go and buy an infuser so I could finally make some good use of the loose tea.

The infuser is like two spoons with holes and both sides clip together so after getting a scoop of tea leaves and boiling the kettle I poured the water into my cup over the infuser and then stirred a little and waited a few minutes. I had then decided to unclip both sides so the used leaves fell out and photograph it that way rather than trying to record the infusion coming out into the water as I had already done this once before.

Well, a couple of photos later and after one very nice cuppa I was done.

This is my submission for this weeks Macro Mondays theme of Vowel. It is Olive Oil Infused with Chilli Oil. The floating Chilli is approx 4cm HMM

Lemon infused olive oil. Bottom 2" of a tall, narrow bottle about 1.75" in diameter. 3 thin lemon slices in the olive oil. Reminds me of something that might come from a Sci-Fi movie.

I got to sneak in a lunch date with this inquisitive guy, peeking at me from under his stroller cover, and his mama. In my return to a more traditional 9-5 I've lost some of the flexibility and freedom that freelancing provided. I've gained other things I know (read: insurance we can afford that actually pays for my seemingly endless doctor's appointments and my husband's mental health needs). I know this. I'm grateful.

But I miss scheduling my comings and goings independent of a larger organization. On early fall afternoons walking to our town center for midday tacos has all the appeal. Combining that with getting time with a friend midweek infused a hectic few days with some levity. Good conversation, yummy food, baby snuggles... the good stuff. I love that this project reminds me, again and again of it.

Where's the good stuff in your life this week?
