Over on the wrong side of Toyville (yeah, like there's a *right* side of Toyville!) Swotty Parker is impressed by Kesenia's new wheels.
This trio was chosen to show aspects of the Spanish influence on Albuquerque 's Old Town. It is a blend of cultures and I love them all.

A new series starts today with an early morning road trip to Limon in eastern Colorado. The winter chill on the plains and some of the small rural towns that are slowly dying off made for some interesting moments.
The San Eduardo chapel is a small chapel that is located in the Llao Llao area, Bariloche, Argentina within the Nahuel Huapi National Park . The chapel was built in 1938 in a mountain style with neo-Gothic characters, with evident influences of European architecture. The project is the work of the architect Alejandro Bustillo .

All my life I have been fascinated with fantasy literature and movies. From DandD through to Magic the Gathering, I have always had a love for the fantastical and magical. I guess I find the made up worlds of imaginations preferable to our own reality. But sometimes, the worlds of the mind cross over into the world of the real ( how can it not, most worlds are based, in part on what their authors see around them).
I had a discussion today with a follower and he raised the question in my mind of what is MY style. I guess my influences are the magical tales of deep green forests far far away and misty woods inhabited by all sorts of strange and wonderful beings.
This iamge reminds me of the scene in LOTR where the Ents gather to discuss how to deal with Saruman and his Goblin armies laying waste to their forests for their own fires and war machines. I hope you like it.

The main Herero group in central Namibia (sometimes called Herero proper) was heavily influenced by Western culture during the colonial period, creating a whole new identity. The missionaries considered the shape of the traditional headdress Ekori, which symbolized the horns of cows (the main source of wealth of the people), as a symbol of the devil and rejected it. The dress of the Herero proper, and their southern counterparts the Mbanderu, incorporates and appropriates the styles of clothing worn by their German colonizers. Though the attire was initially forced upon the Herero, it now operates as a new tradition and a point of pride.
During the 1904-07 war, Herero warriors would steal and wear the uniforms of German soldiers they had killed, believing that this transferred the dead soldiers' power to them. Today, on ceremonial occasions, Herero men wear military-style garb, including peaked caps, berets, epaulettes, aiguillettes and gaiters, "to honour the fallen ancestors and to keep the memories alive."
Herero women adopted the floor-length gowns worn by German missionaries in the late 19th century, but now make them in vivid colors and prints. Married and older Herero women wear the dresses, locally known as ohorokova, every day, while younger and unmarried women wear them mainly for special occasions. Ohorokova dresses are high-necked and have voluminous skirts lavishly gathered from a high waist or below the bust, incorporating multiple petticoats and up to ten metres of fabric. The long sleeves display sculptural volume: puffed from the shoulders or frilled at the wrists. Coordinating neckerchiefs are knotted around the neck.
For everyday wear, dresses are ingeniously patchworked together from smaller pieces of fabric, which may be salvaged from older garments. Dresses made from a single material are reserved for special occasions.
The most distinctive feature of Herero women's dress is their horizontal horned headdress, the otjikaiva, which is a symbol of respect, worn to pay homage to the cows that have historically sustained the Herero. The headdresses can be formed from rolled-up newspaper covered in fabric. They are made to match or coordinate with dresses, and decorative brooches and pins attached to the centre front.
This dress style continues to evolve. In urban Windhoek, fashion designers and models are updating Herero dress for modern, younger wearers, including glamorous sheer and embellished fabrics. "Change is difficult, I understand, but people need to get used to the change," says designer McBright Kavari. "I'm happy to be a part of the change, to be winning souls of people and making people happy when they are wearing the Herero dress." Kavari has won the Best Herero Dress competition three times in a row, but has been criticised for raising the hem of the garment to the knee

Tbilisi is the capital and largest city of Georgia, located in the eastern part of the country along the banks of the Kura River. The city has a rich history that spans over 1,500 years and has been influenced by various cultures and civilizations over the centuries. The old part of Tbilisi, known for its charming architecture and unique atmosphere, is one of the most fascinating areas of the city. One of the most striking features of this area is the traditional houses with wooden balconies. These wooden balconies, often adorned with intricate carvings, are a significant element of Tbilisi's urban aesthetic and culture. This old Tbilisi, also known as the Old Town or Dzveli Tbilisi, is one of the oldest parts of the city and has a rich history dating back to the 5th century. Over the centuries, Tbilisi has been influenced by Persian, Byzantine, Arab, and Russian cultures, which is evident in its diverse architectural styles. The houses with wooden balconies are typical of Tbilisi's traditional architectural style and reflect both Georgian and Persian influences. The balconies are often decorated with beautiful woodwork, characterized by intricate patterns and designs. Originally, these balconies served practical purposes, such as providing extra living space and creating shade during the hot summers, but today they are primarily an aesthetic and cultural feature of the city. Abanotubani, the Bath District, is one of the oldest parts of the city, known for its sulfur baths. Here you can find many traditional houses with wooden balconies, as well as narrow streets and colorful facades. Shavteli Street is one of the most picturesque streets in old Tbilisi and a popular destination for tourists due to its historic charm. The houses with wooden balconies contribute to the unique charm and character of Tbilisi. They are an important part of the city's cultural heritage. In recent years, significant efforts have been made to restore and preserve these historic houses, ensuring that the unique architecture and cultural value are maintained for future generations.
The old part of Tbilisi - Georgia, with its characteristic houses with wooden balconies, offers a fascinating insight into the history and culture of the city. These charming architectural elements are a must-see for anyone who wants to experience Tbilisi's rich traditions and unique heritage.
Ruth Lemma
Poor Sonny...
Poor young bear with the big head... he was little more than a puppy, he was facing a solitary life, in his early days as an independent individual, without his mother.
Inexperienced and confident, he took his steps in the woods and valleys.
He did not sleep safely in some den, but wandered around looking for food.
The beautiful sleep of hibernation did not protect Sonny.
Too bad he would have been saved.
The mild winters, in fact, have now confused and influenced the natural cycle of bears.
Their sleep/wake rhythm, linked to the seasons, has altered.
The encounter with two people from afar cost him his life... for just having met the gaze of the bipedal tyrant.
He never hurt anyone Sonny. Condemned, hunted down and shot dead for doing nothing.
All in rapid mode as befits cowards who act treacherously.
An execution at the same time as the issuing of the killing decree, leaving no room for civil society to take action aimed at saving him, resorting to the TAR.
Killed because he was confident, because he used the bins that were always available and never modified, killed because even the paths in Trentino have never been well regulated and anyone can go anywhere, and then create collective alarmism.
While bears no longer have a safe area and just have to disappear.
Having taken the money from the Life Ursus reintroduction project, now the plantigrades are too many in those valleys and perhaps an obstacle to some other project that brings money.
His judge and executioner is the President of the very sad autonomous province of Trento, Fugatti, determined to kill them all.
This hostile and contemptuous subject of the life of wild animals will remember these days well. They will mark his existence because the whole country knew well his cynicism, his out of control obsession with these creatures and he will be remembered as the hater of bears, a tormentor with doubles and easy life sentences...
Undisputed king of Casteller.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derwentwater
Derwentwater (or Derwent Water) is one of the principal bodies of water in the Lake District National Park in north west England. It lies wholly within the Borough of Allerdale, in the county of Cumbria.
The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lies immediately south of the town of Keswick. It is both fed and drained by the River Derwent. It measures approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) long by 1 mile (1.6 km) wide and is some 72 feet (22 m) deep. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited. Derwent Island House, an 18th-century residence, is a tenanted National Trust property open to the public on five days each year.
Derwentwater is a place of considerable scenic value. It is surrounded by hills (known locally as fells), and many of the slopes facing Derwentwater are extensively wooded. A regular passenger launch operates on the lake, taking passengers between various landing stages. There are seven lakeside marinas, the most popular stops being: Keswick, Portinscale and the Lodore Falls, from which boats may be hired. Recreational walking is a major tourist activity in the area and an extensive network of footpaths exists within the hills and woods surrounding the lake.
The Keswick—Borrowdale road runs along the eastern shore of the lake and carries a regular bus service. There is a lesser, or unclassified, road along the western shore connecting the villages of Grange and Portinscale.
Derwentwater gave its name to the Earldom of Derwentwater.
The lake is believed to be the last remaining native habitat of the vendace (Coregonus vandesius) fish from the 4 originally known sites: Bassenthwaite Lake and Derwent Water in the Lake District and the Castle Loch & Mill Loch in Lochmaben.[2]
Etymology
'Derwent' is " '(River) with oak trees', traditionally explained from Brit." (i.e.: Brythonic Celtic) " 'derwā' 'oak' plus suffixes, hence of the same origin as other English rivers named Derwent, Darwen, Darent and Dart...The river gave its name to Derwent Water (which was also known as the 'Lake of Derwent', 'Keswick Lake', or 'Keswick Water' in the 18th-19th centuries)...".[3] Plus "OE 'wæter', with the meaning probably influenced by its ON relative 'vatn'
Derwentwater's islands
There are numerous islands in Derwentwater, the largest being: Derwent Island, Lord's Island, St Herbert's Island, Rampsholme Island, Park Neb, Otter Island, and Otterbield Island. St. Herbert's Island is named after a C. 7th priest hermit, St. Herbert of Derwentwater.

The New York Times Ethicist recently published a "ruling" on the ethics of AI generative art. He was responding to a person who wanted to use an Etsy image but was concerned the seller was profiting off the work of artists used to train generative AI. The Ethicist pointed out that artists have always stood on the shoulders of other artists, an argument that resonates with me. The image you see here is not simply the result of prompting an image in Midjourney because I made quite a few changes to it in Kira, using the Stable Diffusion plugin and using my digital painting skills and tools (like rearranging the chickens, recreating the woman in the distance, giving the man a hat etc.). But my influence on the image goes deeper. I used Midjourney's personalize parameter to generate images that reflect my aesthetic, color choices, brush work, level of detail and so on. The training was simple. I was given four thousand sets of widely diverse images and told to choose one of them. In other words, this is my unconscious "style." Unconscious because I did not deliberately tell Midjourney everything I prefer when I am painting. And in the act of grabbing from the gush of images this personalization parameter produced, I chose this image. Probably because I have re-discovered NC Wyeth who is famous for his illustrations of the old childhood novel "Treasure Island." He influences how I use illustration to tell stories. And Edward Hopper influences the mood of my work. And Norman Rockwell. Did Rockwell absorb NC Wyeth? I think so. Caravaggio gives my work its lighting. And perhaps NC Wyeth's son Andrew suffused my work. He taught me how to pay attention to the world immediately around me. And perhaps to some degree hundreds of more artists famous and obscure seen in museums, art workshops, videos and Internet images. In fact I have produced over 800 images of the Ravensway world using this amazing productive power of AI. A world that has storytelling power.

The Influence is a historic house on Main Street in Monhegan, Maine. Built in 1826, it is one of the largest and oldest houses in the small island community, built by the son of the last person to own the entire island. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
The first European settlement began in 1803 as a military camp at Risdon Cove on the eastern shores of the River Derwent, amid British concerns over the presence of French explorers. In 1804, along with the military, settlers and convicts from the abandoned Port Phillip settlement, the camp at Risdon Cove was moved by Captain David Collins to a better location at the present site of Hobart at Sullivans Cove. The city, initially known as Hobart Town or Hobarton, was named after Lord Hobart, the British Secretary of State for war and the colonies.
Trey RatcliffThere is a funny new ad campaign in New Zealand about taking photos "Under the Social Influence," warning people not to take photos of themselves with their arms outstretched on a mountaintop... It's pretty funny and I wrote about the same thing in my last book. Personally, I choose not to do it, but I did take this photo of some Influencers that all took turns taking the same photo over and over again... I thought about going back to all my previous landscape photos and photoshop myself in with this same pose... but I only thought about it for 10 seconds. This photo was taken on top of Walter Peak over Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown.
