Influencers’ trip to Prague, Czech Republic

As part of the #ShapeYourFuture campaign, implemented by EU NEIGHBOURS east, 12 influencers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine travelled to Riga and Prague on 16-22 June to learn how these countries have benefited from being part of the EU.

Participants visited the European Commission Representations in Latvia and Czechia, met local influencers Patricia Vavilova and Rozárie Haškovcová, and learned how governments and NGOs are developing strategies to address disinformation and integrate state activities into a coherent communicative narrative.

Vision, Language, and Influence:

Photographs of the South by Baldwin Lee, Walker Evans, and Eudora Welty

Knoxville Museum of Art

May 14 – August 1, 2010

Vision, Language, and Influence brings together for the first time the work of three photographers of the American South over a 50-year period. Walker Evans (1903-1976) is represented by incisive images of Alabama sharecroppers stemming from his epic collaboration with James Agee on Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. Eudora Welty (1909-2001) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning Southern writer and photographer who traveled across Mississippi in the 1930s and early 1940s taking photographs and documenting rural and small-town life in her home state. Baldwin Lee (born 1951) is a professor of photography at the University of Tennessee, and a former assistant to Walker Evans. Complementing the 50 or so works by Evans and Welty are more than 30 of Lee’s images of African-American life in the South taken during the 1980s with the support of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Vision, Language, and Influence was organized by the Knoxville Museum of Art in collaboration with Baldwin Lee.

The Dinner was attended by the food and drink manufacturing industry's leading companies and their senior teams as well as the main influencers in our sector. It was an exciting evening of great food and drink; networking and the chance to hear from our guest speakers.

Rarities singled out, wiped from the repertoire.

No longer under provocative guidance,

the background music to his world.

Most beloved, both were immediately revered.

But in the face of controversies that had

a deep personal resonance, beauty and shining nobility,

dismissed as mere prettiness, emotional expressiveness

deemed superficial this year.

Blinded by merely rehashing preposterous accusations

hurled against his dark side.

At the lowest ebb of reason and tolerance,

his own persuasive and evil figure

suffered an almost total eclipse.

Insightful prelude to this formidable quartet:

Roots.

This morning, when I arrived at my assigned polling place, a young man approached me before I walked in the door. He wanted to give me some literature, asking me to vote "yes" on a certain ballot question.

Little did he know that a local television station had sought me out and interviewed me yesterday, and I had spoken in opposition to the question.

Do the candidates and marketers of political ideas influence your decision as you enter the polls? Is it fair to hear only one side of an issue? Should these people be allowed to campaign by approaching voters at the last minute?
